Luther (Luke) Summers passed away on February 18, 2024 at the age of 93 in San Angelo, Texas. Funeral Services will be 2:00 pm on Thursday February 22, 2024 at the First Baptist Church of Rotan with burial to follow in Belvieu Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm Wednesday, February 21, 2024 at Weathersbee-Ray Funeral Home.Luke was born on October 28, 1930 in Rotan, Texas to Vera and L.R. Summers. He had one sister, Evelyn Summers Bell. Luke spent a lot of time in Rotan with his grandparents, George Washington Nolen and George Ann Nolen. He attended Rotan public schools where he played on the 1948 football team, winning the district title. The 1948 team was said to be one of the best teams Rotan ever had. The team’s only loss was to Monahans, who were the eventual state champions. He married Genelle Smith in 1950 in Rotan. Then he was drafted into the United States Army, serving in the Korean war for eighteen months. He liked to say somebody else started the war and he finished it. He worked at the Gypmill for a few years, had two children, and then went to college. He went to pharmacy school and became a pharmacist. He owned and operated Summers Drug for many years. Luke was a deacon at First Baptist Church of Rotan and served on the Rotan ISD school board. He was a private pilot and member of the Rotan Flying Club. Luke was also a member of the Lions Club. Luke was preceded in death by his wife Genelle, his mother and father, and his stepfather, Buzz Taggart.He is survived by his two children Neal and wife Kathy, and Lisa Wester and husband Steve; four grandchildren, Tanner Wester, Seth Summers, Caitlin Rascoe (Craig), and Coltin Wester (Chelsea); and eight great grandchildren, Summer, Ryder Luke, Parker, Cooper, Carter Luke, Cappella, Coral and Canter; niece, Linda Gavigan (Tom), Kristen and Kate; one sister, Evelyn Bell (William) and nieces and nephews Angela Ridgeway, Dianne Singleton, Charles Dillard, Christopher Davis, Ian Davis, Kevin Singleton and Genny Johnson; and many friends who loved him dearly.

On Friday, February 23, 2024, James Scott Heroy was called home to the Lord. He was born on October 23, 1964, to Sidney Peter Heroy and Donna L. Heroy in New Brunswick, NJ. He is survived by Angie Heroy; son, Colten Heroy and his wife, Arabella Heroy, and their son, Noah; daughter, Rebekah Heroy; sister, Cathy Wood and her husband Twig Wood; sister, Kelly Olgetree; and brother, Matthew Heroy. He was also a light to his many nieces and nephews whom he loved very much as well as his entire church family. In his early years, he enjoyed competing in bull riding events and worked at the stockyards in San Antonio before finally settling in San Angelo. There, he worked at Producers for many years until eventually he answered the call to be an LVN where he could show his kindness and love to others in need. In 1990, he attended and quickly became a pivotal member of Immanuel Baptist church. His strong faith in the Lord drove him to serve wherever was needed, including driving the bus, organizing the greeters and offertory, teaching Sunday school lessons, and most recently becoming a Deacon of the church. Scott’s pride and joy were his children and he delighted in their accomplishments. He took great pleasure in the latest news of his first grandchild. Visitation will be at Johnson’s Funeral Home, on Wednesday, February 28 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. Funeral Services will be held the following morning at 10:00 am at Immanuel Baptist Church. From there, everyone will proceed to Johnson's Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens for the burial. Scott Heroy was a man of faith and a beloved family member. He will be greatly missed. Joe was born on March 1, l929 in Mitchell County, Texas to Abraham and Cipriana Castro. On August 3, 1957, Joe married his love Frances Maldonado in Sweetwater, Texas. Joe and Frances were longtime members of Holy Family Catholic Church where he was an active member of the Knights of Columbus. From his childhood his love and passion was farming. He lived his life cultivating his crops, his family, and his community. Growing up, Joe learned to work with his hands which prepared him to become a welder and x-ray technician for Industrial Manufacturing. In his later years, Joe returned to the fields where he grew up farming and continued to share his blessings and knowledge with his family. Joe will forever live on by the compassion, determination, and integrity that he instilled in his children and grandchildren. He is survived by his children, Adelina C. Morales and husband Alfred of San Angelo, Texas, Arthur Castro and wife Sandy of San Antonio, Texas, and Amy Sibert of Killeen, Texas, seven grandchildren, David Morales, Adrian Morales and wife Anna, Brandan Essix and wife Elisa, Laken Castro and fiance Joshua Corcino, Jalen Sibert, Ryan Castro and Ashley Castro, six great grandchildren, Kameron and Ayvah Essix, Amora and Amari Morales, Joshua, Jr. and Lailyn Corcino.
