George Leroy Rogers, age 68 of Divernon and formerly of White Hall passed away Sunday, June 19, 2022 on Father's Day at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield. He was born April 17, 1954 in St. Louis, MO, the son of Arthur and Malvina Griffith Rogers. He was the baby of 9 and would say his parents stopped when they finally got it perfect. He married Reita Hills July 17, 1976 and she preceded him in death February 26, 2018. He is survived by a daughter, Crystal (Steven) Wentzel of Auburn, two sons, Nicholas (Courtney) Rogers of Springfield, Steven Rogers of Ashland, two grandchildren, Ember and Stella Rogers, two sisters, Rita Young of Carrollton, Donna Helenthal of Chattanooga, TN, and a brother Art (Peg) Rogers of White Hall. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife of 41 years , four sisters, Mary Powell, Frances Scifers, Patricia Pollard, and Doris Johnson, and a brother Dewayne Rogers. George was a member of Divernon United Methodist Church and Barrow Baptist Church. He graduated from North Greene High School in 1972. He served in the United Stated Army from 1974-1980 stationed in Kitzingen, Germany for a year, not long after he married. He graduated from Police Academy in 1984 and was a Greene County Deputy before becoming an Illinois State Trooper. He retired in 2008 from District 18 with 25 years of service. He later opened & operated Myra's Restaurant in Divernon. George lit up a room, loved singing karaoke and watching his favorite baseball team, the St. Louis Cardinals. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a. m. Friday, June 24, 2022 at Calvary Baptist Church in White Hall with burial to follow in Williams-Edwards Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-7 p. m. Thursday at the church. Memorials may be made to Barrow Baptist Church and Williams-Edwards Cemetery. Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in White Hall is in charge of arrangements.
