She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald Waldrep; parents, Carzie and Neline Lansdell; and brother-in-law, Kenneth Graves. Diane is survived by her children, Benjie Waldrep (Sandra); sisters, Debra Ridgeway (Arnold) and Barbara Graves; grandchild, Randi Glass; nieces, Mendy Jeffreys (Mario) and Ida Leigh Trousdale (Tim); and nephew, Matthew Graves (Kim). Mary Janice "Jan" Newell, a beacon of love and family devotion, passed away at the age of 76 on February 4, 2024, at the NHC Nursing Home in Moulton, Alabama. Born on December 11, 1947, in Decatur, Alabama to James T. Coulter and Mary Irene Brooks Coulter, Jan was a cherished member of the community who touched the lives of all who knew her. Jan's early years in Decatur were filled with the warmth of southern hospitality and the strong bonds of community. Her infectious smile and caring nature were evident from a young age. She carried these traits with her throughout her life, creating a home filled with love and open arms for friends and family alike. Jan's life was marked by her unwavering dedication to her family. She is survived by her loving sons, Robert "Rob" Scott and Samuel Scott, who were the pride and joy of her life. Her legacy of love continues through them and the memories they shared. She was preceded in death by her parents, her two husbands, David M. Scott and James Thaxton Newell, and her son, Chris Scott. Each of them held a special place in her heart, and she kept their memories alive with fondness and reverence. Known for her loving nature, Jan had the rare ability to make everyone feel like they were the most important person in the room. Her kindness and compassion extended beyond her immediate family to the many friends and acquaintances she made over the years. She was a pillar of her community, always ready to lend a helping hand or a listening ear. She graduated from the University of Montevallo and went on to become a teacher. Frances was a well-loved teacher at Austinville Elementary and Woodmeade Elementary in Decatur, AL, among other schools. She also drove a bookmobile and volunteered at libraries. Always an avid reader, she passed down her love of reading to her children and grandchildren. She loved perusing antique shops, and collecting dolls and tea sets. Frances enjoyed taking long walks in the countryside with dogs and cats and grandchildren by her side, picking blackberries and watching out for snakes. Her beloved response to wellness inquiries was "mean as ever," although that couldn't be further from the truth. She was compassionate, smart, adventurous, witty, and kind. She made a significant impact on everyone around her that will last forever. She was preceded in death by three sons, Kenneth Jay Clearman, William Wesley "Bill" Clearman, and Charles B. "Chuck" Clearman; her parents, William Leverett Robertson, Sr. and Dimple Dot (Hunt) Robertson; three brothers, W. L.
