"George Erwin Puryear, 88 of Tavares, passed away Friday, August 25, 2023. Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, he moved to Tavares in 2006 from Okaloosa County, FL. He originally moved to Florida in 1982 from Ohio, He owned \u0026amp; operated VistaTek (an aerospace company) prior to his retirement. George was a senior marketing executive who was deeply involved in the military marketplace for 35 years. Prior to founding VistaTek, Inc. , George spent eleven of those years as Midwestern Regional Manager for Actron, a Division of McDonnell Douglas, and Celesco Industries. He personally negotiated large and small contracts for the U. S. Government and private industry. He traveled extensively throughout the eastern half of the U. S. in pursuit of business, working with the Air Force Base, Army, Navy and Prime Contractors, but with emphasis on Wright-Patterson Air Force Base and Eglin Air Force Base-Hurlburt. He participated in programs of all scopes (R\u0026amp;D thru high production) involving very simple devices through the most sophisticated mechanical and electronic systems. He worked at all levels of command, from the ground floor project personnel thru the headquarters. Command to the Pentagon and FMS (Foreign Military Sales). George is a U. S. veteran of the Korean Conflict and was an active duty service member of the U. S. Army from April 1952 to April 1958, service rank of Sergeant. He was stationed in Pirmasens, Germany and Nancy, France. He contributed to the rebuild of Germany and France. George was a member of VetFriends, Toastmasters International, and an Eagle Scout as a young boy. He was an avid sailor and owned a sailboat he named Sundance that was his pride and joy. He spent many beautiful days on the water with family, friends and clients. He was president of the HOA in Okaloosa County and served twice in his current HOA Board in Tavares. "Chad Bates, 49, of Tavares, FL, passed away on November 19, 2023. Born on May 10, 1974, in Miami, Florida, Chad was a beloved son, father, brother, and friend. Chad attended Spring Valley High School and went on to earn a Bachelor\u0027s degree in Economics from Florida State University. During his time at the university, Chad excelled, becoming a first-team All-ACC football player. He later pursued his passion for football and played in the European league before having a brief season with the Dallas Cowboys. Outside of his career in sales, Chad had a deep love for music, sports, cooking, and the great outdoors. He was an avid sports fan, with a heart that bled garnet and gold for his beloved Florida State Seminoles. Chad also enjoyed fishing and, despite his lack of skill, always had a good time playing golf. His friends knew him as a funny and kind-hearted individual who would go above and beyond to help others. Chad\u0027s love for his family was immeasurable, and he cherished every moment spent with them. Chad is survived by his parents Junior and Carolyn Bates, children, Cami, Cole, from his previous relationship with Nikki Cornwell and Piper Bates with his wife, Jennifer Powers. He is also survived by his sister, Bae Scelfo and brother-in-law, Jim Scelfo, nephews, Torr and Shepard, nieces, Alon and Alafair Scelfo. George was the beloved husband of Sharon Werner, and together, they shared a life filled with love and companionship for 53 years. He was a devoted father to Kimberli Werner-Standafer (Richard) and Kerri Werner-Koenig (David). His family grew with the addition of grandchildren: Jourdain Standafer (Brittany), Hillary Beatty (Matt), Megan Nell (Alex), Madison Koenig, and Nicholas Koenig. George's favorite title was "Grandpa" to his five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren: Cooper Standafer, Trever Nell, Jaxson Beatty, Peyton Standafer, Juliana Beatty, and Tucker Nell, who brought him immense joy. George Clifford Werner will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. "Edgar Randolph \u0026quot;Randy\u0026quot; Huckeba,76 of Eustis passed away Wednesday, October 11,2023 in Tavares surrounded by his family. Randy was born in Bainbridge, Georgia on April 10,1947 to Edgar and Helen Huckeba. He was proceeded in death by his parents and his son Little Randy. Randy was a Deacon at The First Baptist Church of Sorrento for many years. He worked in construction most of his life. For many years he worked for Harvey Spears Construction. Later he and a partner opened their own business PreDesigns, after that he did motion screens at ClearView. He and his wife Linda retired to spend time together and with their great grandchildren. He raised pigs when his girls were young T-N-T Ranch and then moved on to raising cattle. Randy enjoyed his cows and I know they will miss hearing his whistle. Randy is survived by his wife, the love of his life Linda of 57 years. His daughters that were the twinkle in his eyes, Tammy Chandler (Jason) of Howey in the Hills and Tonya Smith (Dave) of Eustis. His grandchildren Stephanie Dunn (Dustin) of Eustis and Hunter Chandler of Howey in the Hills. His great grandchildren who brought love , joy and life to him everyday Aubreigh and Austin Dunn. Randy had many other children, grandchildren and great grandchildren that he adopted by love and to them he was always and will be Grandpa Randy. He is also survived by his brothers Gerald Huckeba of Donalsonville, Georgia, Steve (Linda) of Lady Lake and Keith (Joann) of Fruitland Park. Sisters; Marguerite West (Charles) of Newport News, Virginia and Sandra Josey of Climax, Georgia. He has numerous neices and nephews that he was very proud of and loved very much. There will be a celebration of life for Randy on Saturday, October 21, 2023 at The First Baptist Church of Sorrento; 24125 State Rd 46 Sorrento, FL 32776 at 11:00 am with a reception to follow. "Richard Arthur Howard, 77, of Umatilla, FL passed away on Monday, September 25, 2023 in Tavares, Florida. Richard was born in Detroit, Michigan to Ralph Arthur and Roberta Lee "Downs" Howard. He attended local schools before moving to Farmington, Michigan for his high school graduation. He was a Flight Instructor in the U. S. Navy and served a tour in Vietnam. While on active duty in the Navy, Richard received a draft notice from the Army. Of course, he respectfully declined the Army's offer. Richard was a 5rd generation electrician, working largely on large construction projects. He initially worked in the family business, Howard Electric in Michigan. From Michigan he moved to Florida to be close to his family. A sports fan, he enjoyed rooting for the Orlando Magic and a variety of Detroit and Tampa teams. He and Karen loved cruises, traveling frequently throughout the western and southern Caribbean islands. Each morning started at the breakfast table meeting the challenges of the daily crossword and crypto quote puzzles. But, more than anything, Richard loved his time with family and friends. Richard is survived by his beloved wife Karen Henry Howard; older sister Bobbye Tracer; son Ralph Howard of Umatilla, Florida; his son Charles (Dawn) Howard; son Christopher (Brandie) Howard; daughter Jackie (Dave) Schmidt; and daughter Laura (Nick) Candela, all of Michigan; 12 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild, and 2 nephews. Interment will be in a Umatilla, Florida cemetery at the convenience of the family. A Memorial Service is planned for Monday, November 20th 2023.
