Rhonda Newhook

Age - 54

November 18, 2023

Rhonda Sue Newhook, 54, of 240 Woodbound Road, Rindge, departed this world peacefully on Saturday, November 11, 2023, at the Jack Byrne Center for Palliative & Hospice Care of the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH. Born in Holden, WV, on November 4, 1969, Rhonda was preceded in death by her cherished stepfather Bose Whittington. She is survived by Damien Silas Jackson, her son, & Jonathan Lawrence Newhook, her husband of more than 17 years. Genuine, fearless, and utterly unique, Rhonda brought joy to all who knew her with an illustrious smile, an infectious giggle, and an aura of compassion both comforting and unmistakably sincere. Whether it was giving a struggling individual a spare room to stay in or rescuing any animal finding itself in need of a home, her generous and caring spirit touched the lives of all living things lucky enough to meet her. She spent years helping people as a nurse in both clinical and in-home settings, having chosen to share her nurturing nature with those coping with everything from mental illness to traumatic brain injury. Where others saw a soul beyond repair, she saw a purpose, a responsibility, and a mission. Her home was always filled with the aromas of delicious food and coffee, and there were always empty seats at the table to which even strangers were welcome to share in both. She was a woman who had once known what it was like to have nothing, and therefore strove to help others escape and overcome such an obstacle. A spirit of nature as well as an artist, the world was both her canvas and her chapel, her home as well as her responsibility. She brought everything to life with the vibrancy of color, be it with the flowers in her yard, or the numerous pieces of artwork she created and bestowed upon friends, family, and the world. Even her home itself was an artistic testament of her nurturing and singular spirit, having been painted in rich tones of purple, the color of several animal rescue and welfare initiatives as well as her personal favorite. Every day she tried to make the world around her as beautiful as the spirit within her, and like brushstrokes upon a painting those days have blended with the ones which came before to reveal the masterpiece which was her life. Services will be arranged at a later date. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, gifts of condolence should be made to Rhonda's three favorite charities: the "Beagle Freedom Project" for the rescue and rehoming of dogs used in animal testing, "Operation Delta Dog" for the rescue and training of homeless dogs to assist Veterans, or the "Friends of Dog Mountain" Dog Chapel and Art Gallery in Saint Johnsbury, VT. Martha Hill

Martha Hill

Age - 100

October 31, 2023

Martha Moor Hill, the matriarch of the Hill Family, died on October the 24th 2023 at 100 years of age. She passed away at her home in Clermont, FL with those that adored her by her side. Martha was born in Worcester, MA. , March the 20th, 1923 and was the only child of Anna Bliss and Thomas Stanley Moor. Whereas she graduated from College Park College in Maryland her real passion was her love of horses. Although she rode many horses, riding her favorite "Silver Dare" in the Olympic trials at Madison Square Garden, had to be the highlight of her riding career. Martha married Dr. Kenneth Seagrave, a radiologist in both Buffalo, NY and on the Ship of Good Hope, in 1943. Although this was a short marriage, it produced her first child and only daughter Susan Bliss Chadwick of Clermont, Fl. After a few years, while wintering in South Beach Miami, FL with her mother, she was introduced to a young Pan Am Pilot, named H. Craig Hill who would soon become her husband of 53 years and the father to her two sons H. Craig Hill III of Worcester, MA. and Thomas Moor Hill of Newbury, NH. Martha loved her dogs and was always surrounded by at least two. From her Afghan Hounds to her Springer Spaniels, to last but not least her mini dachshund including boxers, elkhounds, English bull terriers, Australian shepherds, a stray cat or two and you get the picture of her as the animal lover she was. It was due to her Husband's adventurous spirit that Martha was always on the go. From the old Mooracres Farm in Paxton, Ma (today the Anna Maria College), to the Flint Farm in Shrewsbury, MA. , and then loading up the family station wagon and moving across country to Arcadia, CA. Three houses later Martha and Craig would change their life forever and purchase a ruin some 500 miles south of Tucson, in a small silver mining village, in a town named Alamos in the Sonora desert of Mexico. Here in the Casa de Clavel (the house of carnation) Martha along with her horses and dogs embraced the Mexican culture and met many expats from all walks of life who came to Alamos seeking themselves and a more nomadic life style. In the year 2000, some thirty years later, and upon the death of her husband Craig, Martha a bit uncomfortable in a changing Mexico and Alamos she decided to leave her memories and friends as life without Craig and living as a single woman in Mexico were difficult. This time she moved to New London, NH and Lake Sunapee, NH for the summer months and Vero Beach, FL in the winters to be closer to her immediate family. It is during this period of time she embraced her role as the matriarch of the family that included all her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Martha as a person possessed a pragmatic intelligence and had a special twinkle in her eyes that assured those around her that she appreciated their company and friendship. She was often quick to respond to a joke with her wonderful smile and her wry humor always lightened up the room. To her family and friends, both old and new, she was not only an inspiration but was a symbol of grace and dignity. She loved her family deeply and was always eager to share and help out to make life easier for those around her. She was a beautiful person and navigated a hundred years of life's challenges without ever forgetting who she was. Martha is predeceased by her parents Thomas Moor and Anna Bliss and her husband H Craig Hill. Surviving family members include her daughter, Susan Bliss Chadwick of Clermont, FL, her sons, H Craig Hill of Worcester, Ma and Thomas Moor Hill and his wife Marilyn of Newbury, NH her five grandchildren, three great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren and many friends who held her in their heart. A private memorial service will be held at the West Part Cemetery in New London, NH. In lieu of flowers please send donations to Cornerstone Hospice Care in Tavares, FL and or the John Hay Estate at the Fells in Newbury, NH. Henry Nichols Jr

Henry Nichols Jr

Age - N/A

October 20, 2023

Henry Baldwin Nichols Jr. , father, teacher, and legendary laugher, passed on September 30, 2023. During his final moments he was with family. Hank, as he preferred, was a person filled with love, humor and usually some snacks. He had a way with dogs and babies and was adored by many people and pets of all ages. He was a writer and reader of great, good, and so-so books, articles and essays, and was usually with some form of the written word in hand. His life long love for reading and writing lead him to a long career, first writing for newspapers, and then teaching journalism at New England College. Hank started his life in Worcester, Massachusetts. His father, Henry Baldwin Nichols, Sr. , and mother, Esther Shears Nichols, had four children. Hank was the youngest. He lost his mother at too young an age. The loss remained with him throughout his life, although most would never know. His three older sisters, Julie, Hope, and Leslie, stepped in as strong figures. Hank attended Exeter Academy and Holderness School. He went to college at Colby and UNH. He played some hockey but with one eye, the other lost in a childhood skating accident, it was a challenge. After college he wrote for newspapers from Baltimore, Maryland, to Grants Pass, Oregon. He started his own newspaper, "Thursday", in Derry, NH. Eventually deciding he preferred writing to selling advertising he closed the doors of his own paper and took a job writing for and editing The New Hampshire Times. He made many lifelong friends there. He settled along the Lane River in Sutton, NH, where he built a 45 foot span bridge with the help of friends, and then a post and beam rustic home. There he started a family with his wife Martha. They had two sons together, Nathan and Ben. With a young family Hank took an opportunity to step away from the long days of a reporter and teach journalism at New England College where he stayed until retiring. During this period Hank continued to write and contributed a column, "An Outsider's View", published weekly in The Boston Globe. He loved life by the river and reveled in swimming, saunas and warm winter fires. His life there was filled with cats and dogs, building additions and a barn, and so many books that one hall of their house was insulated with them. He and his sisters stayed close for life and threw epic family gatherings on holidays. All who are part of this family feel lucky and grateful. Two granddaughters, Natalie and Marlo, became Hank's last great loves. He would spend hours reading, story telling and playing games with them. Later, when his legs lost strength, he would watch their soccer and lacrosse games. When his long life slowed, they would visit and play piano and ukulele for him. They brought him joy that sustained him for years. Hank will be missed by many. He will be remembered. We love you, Hank. Hank's life will be celebrated at a memorial gathering at a later date. Contributions to InDepth NH, an on line newspaper, may be made in lieu of flowers. https://indepthnh. org/ways-to-give/ To plant Memorial Trees in memory of Henry Baldwin Nichols, Jr. , please click here to visit our Sympathy Store.Show more
