The funeral procession will gather beginning at 10:30 a. m. on Thursday, September 14, 2023 at the Gordon C. Emerick Funeral Home, 1550 RT-9 Clifton Park, NY 12065 and depart promptly at 10:45 a. m. For those desiring to go directly to the cemetery, it is asked that you arrive just inside the cemetery entrance in the right lane no sooner than 11:05 a. m. and no later than 11:25 a. m. You will see a sign which states "Funeral Cortege Keep Right". Please do not proceed past the building in the boulevard as we will be escorted at 11:30 a. m. to the shelter area where full military honors will be bestowed. James L. McCallen, 95, of Brunswick, beloved husband of Helen M. Grady McCallen, passed away on December 8 at St. Peter's Community Hospice Inn surrounded by his loving family. Born in Troy, Jim was the son of Lester and Mary Connors McCallen. He attended Christian Brothers Academy in Albany, NY. Jim, a US Navy Veteran, was a member of the former Thomas B. Flynn American Legion Post in Watervliet, NY. He retired from Norton Co. in Watervliet after nearly 30 years of dedicated service. Jim was the beloved husband of Helen Grady McCallen; devoted father of Debra (William) Jeffs, Diane (Timothy) Benson, Michael (Debra) McCallen and James McCallen; brother of the late Mary Farmer, Margaret Schwenk, and Loretta Gallagher; cherished grandfather of Jennifer Jeffs, Erin (Brian Knight) Benson, Brandon (Kiley Schaumleffel) Jeffs, Brian (Brittany) Benson, and Justin (Kristin Cohen) McCallen; beloved great-grandfather of Cecilia "Cece," Margo, Miles and Malcolm. Also survived by several nieces and nephews. Jim was a wonderful caring father, grandfather and great-grandfather with a heart of gold. He was a kind and gentle soul who was always available to his family and friends. He was an avid fan of the New York Yankees and loved watching the games. He also loved history and was an avid reader. Jim enjoyed traveling with his family to his favorite places including Myrtle Beach, Maine, Gavin's Irish Country Inn in the Catskills, Florida, and multiple bus trips to many areas of the U. S. with his wife and fellow retirees. Private funeral service with full military honors will be held at The Gerald BH Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery at a date and time to be determined by the family. Sister Claire Weber (Margaret Claire) died at the Teresian House on December 5, 2023, the age of 90. The daughter of Clarence Weber and Linda Archambault Weber born in Utica. Born in Utica, NY, she graduated from St. Francis de Sales High School and in 1948 entered the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet, with whom she served for 75 years. She prepared for her lifelong ministry in business teaching and administration at the College of St. Rose, BS (1962) and MA (1965) earning BS and MA degrees in business. From 1952 - 1959, Sister Claire taught business in Albany Diocesan high schools and was then appointed Assistant Business Manager at the College of St. Rose. Sister next ministered in teaching and administrative posts in Syracuse and Albany Diocesan schools, including thirteen years as Business Manager of Rome, NY, Catholic Schools. From 2002 until her retirement in 2022, Sister Claire served her community in the Business Office at St. Joseph's Provincial House, Latham. Sister Claire loved teaching and was acclaimed as an excellent teacher, always prepared, organized and professional. In 2002 she received the "Rome Catholic Schools Teacher Award. " Claire said she consciously transformed what others might call each day's work into a sacramental ministry, praying daily for each person whose name she read on her class and office lists. While serving in Rome, Sister Claire celebrated her 50 Jubilee. Asked about religious life's many changes, she answered, "It's a life of faith -- The Lord can see around corners that we can't. " A life of faith - that was Sister Claire's mantra when faced with any challenge. When asked about turning 70, Sister wrote, "Praise the Lord and pass the cake and ice cream. " Sister Claire's life, a balance of her deep faith and her joyful spirit, enriched all she served. Sister Claire was predeceased by her parents. She and her only sibling, Rev. Jerome Weber, bonded closely during their school days, and remained close during their years of ministry and retirement. Sister visited Jerome one month before her death. She is also survived by her loving religious community, especially her dearest friend, Sister Julie Eigo. Sister Claire's wake will take place on Sunday, December 10, from 2-4 p. m. with Vespers at 4 at St. Joseph's Provincial House. Her funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, Dec. 11 at 11:00a. m. Lansingburgh, New York GERALD M. SNYDER, SR. Gerald M. "Jerry"/"Big Jerry" Snyder, Sr. , 72 of Lansingburgh, beloved husband of over 42 years of Lisa A. Bova Snyder of Lansingburgh, peacefully entered into eternal life on Tuesday, December 5, 2023 at Samaritan Hospital in Troy. Born in Gloversville, NY, he was the son of the late Harold and Leona Bird Snyder and was a graduate of Sacred Heart School and Troy High School, both in Troy, and then continued his education at Hudson Valley Community College in Troy. Jerry had been employed as a Meat Department Associate at the Price Chopper in Lansingburgh, and previously employed at Cascades Paper Co. in Waterford, American Seal Paint & Decorating in Troy and at the Albany Public Market in Menands. The most important things to Big Jerry were sports, basketball, his boys and his grandchildren. Beloved husband of Lisa, devoted father of Gerald M. Snyder, Jr. , Brad Bova and the late Guy Allen Snyder, loving siblings; William (Cathy), Clifford (Belinda), the late Charles (Colleen) Herbie, Raymond, Carl, Debbie and Cindy, also survived by 7 grandchildren and a large extended Snyder family to include his nieces, nephews and their families. Thomas J. Sullivan of Clifton Park passed away peacefully on Sunday Nov. 26, 2023, after a brief illness. He was born in Troy, NY, the son of the late Henry and Helen Agnes Lennon Sullivan. Tom was raised in Mechanicville and was a graduate of Mechanicville High School. He was a manager for General Electric Co. Information Services in Schenectady for over 30 years. Tom was a kind man who enjoyed helping others. He was an honorary member of the Residence Encounter Christ Program for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Albany, where he volunteered in the prison ministry. He was a devoted communicant and volunteer for Corpus Christi Church. Tom was a member of the Mechanicville-Stillwater Lions Club and the Clifton Park Elks Club. An avid sports fan, Tom enjoyed cheering on his favorite teams: The Notre Dame Fighting Irish Football Team, The NY Giants and the NY Yankees. He also loved going to the horse races every summer in Saratoga, traveling and spending time with his family. He was the beloved husband of Alice A. Jerzykiewicz Sullivan for 49 years; loving father of Thomas J. (Lisa) Sullivan, Jr. of Sun Valley, CA and Karen A. (Bruce) Bagstad of Clifton Park, NY; cherished grandfather of Patrick Sullivan, Michael (Eir) Sullivan, Amber (Sean) Cooleen, and Bryan (Diana) Bagstad; great grandfather to Harrison, Elijah, Scarlett, Emilia, Ruby and Juliet. He was a dear brother to Patricia (Fred) Donovan of Schaghticoke, NY, the late James Sullivan, William Sullivan, Helen Dennison and Jean Stoddard. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. The family extends special thanks to the Ellis Hospital 4 . floor staff and the staff of the Glendale Manor for their kindness and the excellent care they gave to Tom. Schaghticoke, New York CHARLES J. TKAL Charles J. "Charlie" Tkal, 32, of Schaghticoke, beloved husband for 6 years to Katie L. Milne Tkal, passed away following a heroic 18-month battle with Colon Cancer, surrounded by his family on Tuesday, November 28, 2023 at Saratoga Hospital. Born in Troy, NY, he was the devoted son of Karen Strope (Paul) Cady and Greg (Melissa) Tkal and was a graduate of Hoosic Valley High School in Schahgticoke. Charlie had been employed as the Manager at Hudson Valley Bee Supply in Kingston where he held a few positions having worked his way up through the ranks over the years. Charlie loved music, playing the guitar and drums as well as video games, particularly Dungeons & Dragons. He also loved beekeeping, gardening, hiking, being outdoors in general and Viking re-enactments as part of the Norseland group. Charlie was most passionate about his family and friends. He was well known for his jokes and infectious smile that could brighten anyone's day. In addition to his beloved wife Katie, parents Karen (Paul) and Greg (Melissa), Charlie is the much adored father of Marley (10), Warren (7) and Samuel (4) Tkal, loving grandson of Charlene (late Howard) Strope, dear brother of Ryan (Caitlin) Cady, Kristen (Chris) Dindio, the late Megan MacLean, Evan and Julia Hatch, cherished son-in-law of George and Holly Milne, and is also survived by his aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and their families. Honorable Gilbert L. Abramson Honorable Gilbert L. Abramson, age 65, retired judge of the Saratoga County Family Court and former attorney died peacefully at his home on November 23, 2023 after a long illness. He is survived by his high school sweetheart Beth Anne Abramson (nee Messinger), son Joshua Russell Abramson, mother Shirley Abramson, brother Clifford Abramson (Jamie), sister Leba LuKacher (Ken), brother Neil Abramson (Amy), brother-in-law Keith Messinger, nephew Benjamin, nieces Isabelle and Madeline, and many cousins. Gil graduated from Lakeland Senior High School in Yorktown Heights in 1975. He then attended the University at Albany, where he received his BA in Political Science and his Masters in Public Administration. Gil subsequently received his Juris Doctor from Albany Law School. In his early years, he ran political campaigns in both upstate and downstate New York. Gil worked in the NYS legislature for Assemblyman Jon Fossel, Senator Mary Goodhue, and Senator Stephen Saland becoming the Counsel to the Senate Committee on Children and Families. Gil also practiced Family Law at the Herrmann, Pelagalli and Abramson law firm, and was the Deputy Town Attorney in the Town of Halfmoon. Later, he served as the Town of Halfmoon Republican Chairman. The culmination of his legal career was ascending to the Family Court Bench, where he was able to fulfill his passion for helping children. Gil was an avid fisherman and never missed a chance to watch his beloved Minnesota Vikings, Kung Fu movies and wrestling on TV.
