George R. Dreher, age 79 of Wilmington, passed away on September 7, 2023. George was born in Wilmington DE to the late Edward Dreher Sr. and Angeline Rapuano Dreher. He went to St. Thomas grade school and graduated from Salesianum. He was a devoted employee of ICI Americas, leaving as a respected supervisor. After leaving ICI and Zeneca he moved on to the Delaware DMV, where he retired as a driver improvement officer. George loved outdoor activities, especially hunting, fishing, and going to the beach. He enjoyed the time he spent at his beach house in Lewes, DE. Along with his parents, George is preceded in death by his brother Edward Dreher Jr. He is survived by many cousins and friends; dear companion Nancy Pearce; and beloved dog Alana. Viewing for family and friends will be held Friday, September 15, 2023, starting 9am at Charles P. Arcaro Funeral Home. Service at 10:30am. Carolyn Jean Clanton was born on June 13th, 1948, in Welch, West Virginia. She was the oldest of five children born to John Anthony Martin and Mary Elizabeth Martin. She is preceded in death by parents Mr. John Martin and Mrs. Mary Martin; sister Terry Moore, brother John Martin, Jr. and nephew Dana A. Martin (Boo). Carolyn's former education was obtained from Elkhorn High School, and she graduated in 1966. She attended classes at Memorial Hospital and worked at Wilmington Medical Center for 3years. Due to her passion for the Health Services field, she also worked at A. I. Dupont Experimental Station as a Lab Technician for 18years. Later in life, she worked for Citibank as a Technician for 6years before retiring to travel, enjoy the love of her life Saul Clanton and to spend time with her family. Carolyn and Saul were married for 50 years, they met at Memorial Hospital in 1970. Recently the Clantons, celebrated their 50th Anniversary in Newark, DE surrounded around a host of family and friends. During this union they raised three children Dawn, Andre (Robbie), and Tina. Carolyn had a passion for travel inclusive of: Portugal, the Holy Land, Paris, the Caribbean, Alaska and more. She also enjoyed sewing, crafting, cruises and she wasan avid bowler with the National Bowling Association. She served as the President of the Bowling Association for many years, and she traveled the world with a bowlingaverage of 175. Carolyn and Saul joined the Cathedral of New Beginnings church and served under the tutelage of Bishop Jerome Cuthbertson, Sr. From Sunday servicesto Zoom Bible Studies, the Clantons appreciate their growth and spiritual development under Bishop and First Lady Jane's leadership. Elizabeth M. (Long) Carter, 90, of Wilmington, Delaware, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, December 5, 2023 surrounded by her loving family. Born in Cork City, Ireland on September 24, 1933, beloved daughter of the late Thomas and Hannah (Sheehan) Long. Libby came to the United States in 1954 at the age of 18. She was employed with Bancroft Mills, was a dedicated member of St. Ann Parish, and was also a member of the Irish Culture Club of Delaware. Libby resided in the Forty Acres neighborhood. She enjoyed sewing and loved spending time at the beach house in Lewes. She prided herself in being lovingly devoted to her immediate and extended family members. Her husband, Charles F. Carter, Jr. passed away in 2010. In addition, she was predeceased by her son, Patrick Carter; her sister, Margaret Roche and her brothers, Thomas, Davey and Michael Long. Libby will be dearly missed by her children, Charles F. Carter III (Micielle), Rosemary, Gerald and Sean (Cathleen); her daughter-in-law, Francesca; her grandchildren, Rachael Flynn (John), Taylor, Peyton, David, Andrew (Kelly), Jack, Laura (Cody), Conor, Sean Michael, Theresa, Cara-Rose and John Carter; her great grandchildren, Aoife and Cillian Flynn. Barbara A. Hoover passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, December 2, 2023. She was 92. Barbara Jean Alabaster was born in 1931, to Francis and Ellen Alabaster. She grew up in Highland Park, New Jersey, and the family later moved to Wilmington, Delaware. Barbara received an AB from the college of William and Mary in 1953, and a Master of Education in 1976 from the University of Delaware. At William and Mary, Barbara met and married David Rittenhouse, and they moved back to Wilmington. She and David had three children: Lynn, David, and Kay. The couple eventually divorced. Barbara married Conrad (Connie) Hoover in 1975, and her family grew with the addition of Connie's children: Kathe, Christine, and Andrew. Barbara began her teaching career at Tower Hill School in 1973. She pursued her master's degree in education while teaching full-time. She taught third and fourth grades and later became the 7 and 8 grade Reading Coordinator. Barbara loved teaching, and in 1990 she received the Kitchel Chair award at Tower Hill demonstrating excellence in educational leadership and a love for students. She retired from teaching in 1994. Barbara was also active serving the community. In her younger years she served on the Junior Board of the Delaware Hospital and in the Junior League of Delaware. Barbara was also very active in the P. E. O. sisterhood, which was near and dear to her heart. She worked to further the cause of helping women obtain funding for education. She served as president of Chapter D, President of the Delaware State Chapter, and spent six years as a trustee of the P. E. O. International Foundation. Barbara was also an active member at Westminster Presbyterian Church where she served as a deacon and Stephen Minister for many years. She had a beautiful voice and sang for many years in the Westminster Presbyterian Church Choir. She also sang leading roles with the Savoy Company in Philadelphia. While Barbara accomplished so much professionally, and in the community, her biggest impact was on her family and the people she touched. She was a talented seamstress and prolific quilter. She spent countless hours making beautiful quilts for all her "dear ones". She had a huge heart, a beautiful, shining soul, and boundless love for her family and friends. Barbara was pre-deceased by her husband, Connie Hoover, and step-son, Andrew Hoover. She is survived by her children: Lynn (John) Green, David (Mary) Rittenhouse, Kay (Tim) McDonald, and stepdaughters: Kathe (Scott) Hill and Christine (Hank) Harding. In addition, she is survived by her sister, Pat Phares, her nephew, Marc Phares, her niece, Holly Phares, and her sister-in-law and friend, Pat Rittenhouse. She had nine grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, nine step-grandchildren, and six step-great-grandchildren. A service is scheduled for 11 a. m. on Friday, December 15 in the Sanctuary of Westminster Presbyterian Church located at 1502 West 13 St. in Wilmington. Mary C. Sill of Wilmington, Delaware passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, December 3, 2023, one day shy of her 85th birthday. Born in Kennett Square, Pennsylvania on December 4, 1938, she was the daughter of the late Charles J. , Sr. and Mary C. (Rigler) Sill. "Toots"" as she was affectionately called, was a graduate of Conrad High School and was employed as an administrative assistant with Equitable Insurance Company for more than 45 years, having retired in 2003. She was a member of St. Elizabeth Parish and lovingly cared for her mother for several years until her passing in 2005. Toots enjoyed day trips to Lancaster and summer vacations in Wildwood. On occasion, she also enjoyed playing the slot machines at Delaware Park. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brothers, Ronald F. Sill, Sr. and Charles J. Sill, Jr. Toots will be dearly missed by her niece, Lisa M. Sieg and husband, Scott; her nephew, Ronald F. Sill, Jr. and wife, Victoria; her great niece, Grace Sill; her sister-in-law, Mary H. Dorothy Norris, 67, of Wilmington, DE, passed away at home on December 1, 2023, in the arms of her loving husband. With family by her side, Dottie bravely fought a two and a half year battle with colon cancer. She endured with her unparalleled sense of wit and sarcasm. Born February 18, 1956, to James and Helen Law, Dottie attended Conrad High School. She spent her early working career as a bookkeeper for Stanton Pharmacy and later moved to HSBC where she worked as a financial analyst. The most important job of Dottie's life was that of wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt. She spent countless hours at the beach with her children and grandchildren. Some of her favorite times were spent with her brother and his wife, Patrick and Renee Law. In her spare time, Dottie enjoyed giving her family a hard time and keeping them on their toes, people watching, jigsaw puzzles and reading mystery novels. Esperanza "Panchi" Collazo was born December 15, 1958 in Manhattan, New York, a daughter of the late Efrain Collazo and Ana Gutierrez. She was preceded in death by her common law husband, Francisco "Cordero" Torres. Esperanza is survived by her three children, Sylvia Torres-Albelo (Hector) of Vineland, NJ. Jessica Torres of Wilmington, DE. and Francisco Torres Jr of Elkton,MD. She is also survived by two siblings, Nilsa "Evelyn" Collazo of Wilmington,DE and Carlos Collazo of New Castle, DE. She was preceded in death by her parents, Efrain Collazo and Ana Gutierrez along with her two brothers, Jeffrey Collazo and Efrain Collazo Jr. She had been employed at OCI as a Data Entry associate for 20+ years and retired. Panchi was well known by everyone at the office due to her friendly and helpful ways. Panchi met and had many lifelong friends at OCI. Panchi enjoyed watching football games, especially the Eagles. She was a die hard Eagles fan. She enjoyed scratch off lottery tickets, listening to music,shopping, going camping with the grandkids, going on vacations to explore and see new things, and she enjoyed playing UNO attack with her grandchildren. James "Jamie" Jamison passed away on Thursday, November 30, 2023 at his home surrounded by his loving family, his devoted companion Cathy Ford, and his close friend George Brocklesby. He was 69 years old. Jamie was predeceased by his father James Charles Jamison and his mother Helen Jean (Brittingham) Jamison. Jamie is survived by his sons James "Jay" Jamison Jr. (Kerry) and Joe Jamison (Laura). He also leaves his grandchildren Kaylie, Bailey, Joey, Kai, Danni, Billy, & Charlie to cherish his memory. Jamie was interested early-on about the Fire Service and Fire Safety. In his teen years, Jamie became a member of Claymont Fire Company where many lifelong friendships were formed and a deeper understanding of what fire does was gained. All of this resulted in Jamie becoming a Loss Control and Safety Engineer where his knowledge was plied in the field correcting catastrophic problems in mercantile, office, and apartment buildings. Jamie enjoyed spending time with his family, especially with his grandchildren, whom he deeply loved. He made sure he was at every special event and holiday to celebrate and share their joy with them. Jamie also loved spending time outdoors. His backyard was his happy place and he made it a haven for many foxes, deer, rabbits, birds, and even honeybees to seek food, water, and companionship. His bond with animals of nature was like no other. In his community, Jamie was a unique character, giving people a smile on their face and a helping hand when needed. In the Town of Arden, Jamie was an almost daily fixture, especially at the Gild Hall, where he helped with maintenance and Hall events. Many of the town's residents will dearly miss him. A visitation will be held at Chandler Funeral Home, 2506 Concord Pike, Wilmington, DE 19803 on Friday, December 8, 2023 from 10:00 to 11:00 am, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 am. Interment will follow at Gracelawn Memorial Park, Wilmington. A Celebration of Jamie's Life will be held at the Arden Gild Hall, 2126 The Highway, Arden following the cemetery.
