Patrick Dennis McTamany of Lenoir passed away Tuesday, February 20, 2024, at Carolina Caring Hospice in Newton.Born January 27, 1935, in Pensacola Florida to the late Francis Joseph McTamany and Birtie Driscoll McTamany.Patrick was a retired Veteran of the United States Army and served in the Vietnam War with the Special Forces and he was a member of the VFW.He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Cheeta Kay McTamany of the home; three sisters in law, Billie Barker and (David) of Reno, Nevada, Brenda Bratton, and (Alison) of Wylie, Texas, Debbie McLean and (Leon) of Charlotte, NC; godson, William White of Wylie, Texas; and aunt, Faye Liolis of Fayettville, NC.A Celebration of Life service will be held Monday, February 26, 2024, 2:00 p.m. at Bass-Smith Granite Chapel with Rev. Edd Warren officiating. Hugh Alvin Rhinehardt, age 89, of Newton, passed away on Monday, February 19, 2024. He was born on Sunday, September 2, 1934 to the late Raleigh Franklin Reinhardt and Macie Miller Reinhardt. In addition to his parents, Hugh was preceded in death by daughters, Tina Borg, Shelly Relander, Pat McLaughlin; sons in laws, Paul Relander, Chris Craven; brothers, James Charles Reinhardt, JC Reinhardt, Vernon Reinhardt; and sisters, Margaret Reinhardt, Irene Valerie (Bobbie) Arney. Hugh was a loving husband, dad, and granddad. He was a devoted to his family and he volunteered with many of his children’s activities. He was involved with Newton-Conover football, band boosters, and he was a co-leader with his wife in Girl Scouts. Hugh was the owner of Rhinehardt Painting. His hobbies were gardening, taking care of the yard, fishing and traveling. Those left to cherish Hugh’s memory are his wife of 47 years, Vicky Rhinehardt; son, James Franklin Rhinehardt; daughters, Julie Finger, Amy Rhinehardt Craven, Marion Kuhn; son in law, Ed Borg; 10 grandchildren, Mandy, Meshell, Danielle, Michelle, Kayla, Sydney, Sarah, Taylor, Raleigh, Macie; and 9 great grandchildren. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12 pm-12:45 pm at Mt. View Church, 1248 Balls Creek Rd, Claremont, NC 28610. Grace was of the German Lutheran faith and loved working in her flower garden. She loved her family, especially her grandchildren. She was an avid collector of elephants and enjoyed riding the bike with her husband. Including her mother, she was preceded in death by: a son, Charles Moore; a sister, Ronetta Cronin; a brother, Donald Allen. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by, her son, Larry Basil Brigham, Jr. of Newton, NC and her brother, A.Z. Foster Wood, Jr. of St. Augustine, FL. Those left to cherish her memory include, her daughter, Mary Terry and husband, T. Lance Terry of Hickory; 3 grandsons, Larry “Trey” Basil Brigham, III of Bluffton, SC, Joseph Daniel Brigham and John Foster Terry both of Hickory, NC; a niece, Kathy Wood Tarver of Savannah, GA and a nephew, Walter Chapman Wood of Satellite Beach, FL, as well as several cousins and extended family. Lawrence McClure Caldwell II, passed away peacefully at his home in Newton on February 4, 2024. He was born September 17, 1945, to the late Lawrence and Macel Ratchford Caldwell of Newton. Larry was first and foremost a physician who loved the challenges of medicine. He began his practice of gastroenterology in Newton in the mid-1970s, continuing until a stroke ended his career in 2013. During that time he was the first to establish the service of gastroenterology at Catawba Valley Medical Center. He is fondly remembered as one who would take time getting to know his patients, answer their questions, and hold their hand. Larry loved to talk, always enjoyed a good joke, loved to tell stories, and to teach. His love of travel took him too many corners of the world, always eager to learn what was around the next corner or over the next hill. A private graveside service of remembrance was held at Eastview Cemetery, with Rev Randy Perdue officiating. Larry’s wife, Evelyn, has requested that memorials be made to the Salvation Army.
