Barbara Joyce Alexander, 97, of Charlotte, North Carolina, passed away February 23, 2024. Born September 24, 1926, in Stanly County, North Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Minnie Esther Kimrey and George Alexander Huneycutt. Barbara is survived by her loving sons, Sam and David (Tassanee) Alexander, her brothers, C.J., Sherman and Gary Huneycutt & many more loving family and friends. In addition to her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, Robert P. Alexander, and sisters, Prudence McGinnis, and Jane Stetler. Barbara was active in Mulberry Presbyterian Church and was a dedicated gardener. She was also active in many gardening clubs and had many rare and special plants. She loved to show visitors her garden, walking among the plants and telling their stories. The family will receive friends from 1:00 P. M. to 2:00 P. M. on Sunday, March 3rd, 2024 at Hankins & Whittington Funeral Service, 1111 East Boulevard, Charlotte, NC 28203 with a funeral service to follow at 2:00 P. M. in the Hankins & Whittington Chapel. Kensey McKindley Miller was born in Greensboro, NC on July 6, 1943 to the late Mattie Bell Miller and the late Robert Miller. He peacefully gained his eternal wings on Monday, February 26, 2024, at White Oak Manor Nursing Facility, Charlotte, NC. He was proceeded in death by his wife, Gloria J. Mackin-Miller; son's, Ricky Montgomery, Kenny Miller, Paul Miller, Lamont Miller; daughters, Vanessa Miller, Carla Mackin; brother Robert Miller Jr.; granddaughter, Zacari Miller; great grandsons, Keyshawn Jones & Denim Davidson. Kensey graduated from Logan High School, Concord, NC. He had a passion for cooking and later on became an employee at Moses Cone Hospital, Greensboro, NC. As many know Kensey was a head strong individual, not one to be taking lightly, and most definitely a ladies man. However, he grew to know the Lord and became very humble throughout his year's of living. His granddaughter Angelica Mackin would often visit him and catch him reading the Bible, sleeping, or simply watching old Westerns on TV. If you knew Kensey then you knew he was a very quiet man who thought about a lot. Kensey would often make a request saying "Can you get me a soda?" or for "Snicker Bar's", along with any other sweet's that would brighten his day! He strived everyday to bring peace and make things right. Kensey loved his children, grandchildren, and family with all of his heart especially his favorite cousin, Rita. Those left to cherish fond memories include his sister, Kay F. Miller-Clark; two sons, Michael Miller of Greensboro, NC, Patrick L. Mackin of Lexington, SC; 16 grandchildren, Quateshia, Raheam, Diante’, Angelica, Ansaari El, Jenniya, Vodreka, Tiffany, Jamarkus, Ezekiel, Keisha, Detrick, RaSasha, Ricky Jr., Tyrese and Steven and a host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends. "Shirley Jacqueline Ellis Brown, of Salisbury, NC passed away Monday, February 26, 2024 at Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center Hospice in Charlotte, NC. She was 95. She was born June 24, 1928 in Mooresville, NC to the late Robert Percy Ellis and Lillian Beatrice Brown Ellis. Shirley graduated from Mooresville High School and worked as a secretary for Judge Dunn prior to starting her family. Shirley was a member of Coburn United Methodist Church and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Monroe Brown, Sr. on November 18, 2018; an infant daughter, Barbara Jean Brown in 1949; and four sisters, Josephine, Polly, Rachel and Mag. Those left to cherish her memory are two sons, James Monroe Brown, Jr. (Carolyn) of Sorrento, Florida and Jackie Wayne Brown (Vickie) of Salisbury; one daughter, Mary Lillian Brown of Rock Hill, SC; one grandson, Jamie Lee Brown (Melissa), two step-grandchildren, Corey and Shane Meachem; one great-grandson, Reid Brown and one brother-in-law, Bobby Ray Brown of Salisbury. The family will receive friends from Noon-1 PM Friday (March 1) at Summersett Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 1 PM in Summersett Memorial Chapel, officiated by Rev. Serena Scott. "Mrs. Sarah Joan Stratford Powers, 93, widow of Henry C. Powers, of Lancaster passed away Sunday, February 4, 2024, at Levine and Dickson Hospice House. She was born December 22, 1930, in Fort Mitchell, Alabama, a daughter of the late Wylie Stratford and Naomi Sterling Stratford. Mrs. Powers loved her cat, Harrison, and enjoyed gardening and feeding the birds. A private burial for Mrs. Powers will be held at a later date. Mrs. Powers is survived by her four sons; Lance “Kip” Awbrey (Patricia) of Van Wyck, Howard Awbrey (Tina) of Frankfort, KY, James “Chick” Awbrey (Diane) of Rock Hill, and John Awbrey (Sonia) of Fairfax, VA, two daughters; Cherie Steele (Larry) of Van Wyck, and Celeste Counts of Rock Hill, sister; Jane Stuart of Jonesboro, GA, eleven grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Ed Echeverria, 82, of Charlotte, NC, beloved father and grandfather passed away peacefully on February 15, 2024 after a sudden, unexpected aneurysm in his brain. Mr. Echeverria was born in Havana, Cuba. He immigrated to the USA in 1960 and became an American Citizen. He served in the U. S. Army and was stationed at Fort Bragg, NC where he was military police. He graduated college from UNCC with a BS in Psychology and a minor in Engineering. While he was in college, he met a friend who introduced him to Kung Fu and over time became a master martial artist. After college he continued his career in law enforcement with CPD and MCPD. In his downtime he focused on teaching Kung Fu, renovations to his home, and constant care to his yard. Mr. Echeverria loved to sing, cook, and philosophize about religion, politics and human behavior. Mr. Echeverria was predeceased by his parents Max and Carmen Echeverria. He is survived by his daughter and her husband, Elizabeth and Elliott Field, as well as his grandchildren Zackary Correll, and William and Emma Field. In addition, he has a surviving sister and her husband, Graciela and Norman Kingsbury, and his Nephew, Ivan Krsnik, of Alta Loma, CA. His memorial service will be held at his home 1619 Chippendale Ave on April 20th at 3:30pm. There may be a luncheon on the same day TBD. The Family requests that Memorial Donations be made to Harris Hospice at Novant Presbyterian Hospital where Mr. Echeverria received great care in his final hours, in lieu of sending flowers or gifts.

Carol Culwell Jackson, 77, of Charlotte, died peacefully on Friday , February 23, 2024, at Novant Health Hospice. Mrs. Jackson was born May 18, 1946, in Tuscaloosa, AL, to the late Ingram and Elizabeth Ingram Culwell. She was a graduate of Tuscaloosa High School and attended the University of Alabama. She was a longtime member of Plaza Baptist Church and remained a faithful prayer partner after she could not attend due to declining health. Carol loved the Lord with all her heart and showed her love to all that knew her and was a witness to everyone she encountered and a faithful servant to the end. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ottis R. (Jack) Jackson; her brothers Robert and James Culwell; her faithful dog, Beau; and two step-grandchildren. She is survived by her brother, Ingram (Sonny) Culwell of Gadsden, AL; sisters Myra Koster and Joan Powell of Tuscaloosa, AL; son Warren Phillips of Midland, NC; daughter, Leigh Williams of Concord; grandchildren Rachael and Alex Williams, of Concord, NC; many loved nephews and nieces and great nephews and nieces; step-son Randy Dalton (Debbie) of Cornelius, NC; step-daughters Elaine Barton of Salisbury and Lori Patrick (Mike) of Union, SC; 7 step-grandchildren, and 5 step-great-grandchildren. A graveside service will be held 1:00 p.m., Saturday, March 2, 2024 in Gethsemane Cemetery and Memorial Gardens, 1504 W. Sugar Creek Rd., Charlotte, NC 28262.
