"Gene Franklin Floyd, 88, passed away September 9 at Regional Medical Center in Gadsden, Alabama. Funeral services for Mr. Floyd will be Monday, September 11, 2023 at Thompson Funeral Home in Piedmont, Alabama, with Reverend Charles Thomas officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00-12:00 and the service will begin at 12:00. Burial with military honors will follow at Piedmont Memory Gardens. Gene was born October 16, 1934 in Cleburne County, Alabama, living most of his life in Piedmont, Alabama. He proudly served in The United States Marine Corps and was a postal employee for thirty-six years, with the last eleven serving as Postmaster in Piedmont, Alabama. Mr. Floyd was a member of Piedmont Congregational Methodist Church and was a Mason, receiving his fifty year pin. He enjoyed fishing, especially deep sea, attending NASCAR races, and watching Alabama football. Gene also loved spending time drinking coffee and solving the world's problems with special friends at Jack's in both Piedmont and Hokes Bluff, but his greatest joy was being with his family. Mr. Floyd was preceded in death by his father, James Harvey Floyd, and his mother Roxie Burns Floyd, brothers: Howard, David, Edwin, Charles, and Billy, and sisters Edna Kiser and Carolyn Harris. Mr. Floyd is survived by his wife of 58 years, Patricia Cole Floyd; daughter Holli Edwards (Bobby) of Jacksonville, Alabama; son Brian Floyd (Carla) of Lancaster, South Carolina; grandchildren Lesley Roper (Adam) of Leicester, North Carolina; Dale Edwards of Piedmont, Alabama; Jessica Floyd of Bluffton, South Carolina; and Travis Floyd (Abbi) of Lancaster, South Carolina; three great-grandchildren, Fern Roper, Lance Edwards, and Mae Roper. He is also survived by a brother, Larry Floyd (Brenda) of Hokes Bluff, Alabama; his twin sister Jeanette Marshall of Rome, Georgia; sister Marie Kiser of Piedmont, Alabama; and sister Brenda Grimes (Joe) of Jacksonville, Alabama; and several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Lance Edwards, Travis Floyd, Adam Roper, Bobby Edwards, Leonard Kiser, and Mike Williams. Pallbearer in absentia is Dale Edwards, currently serving overseas with the US Army. Honorary pallbearers will be Gene's coffee drinking friends from Jack's. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Piedmont Congregational Methodist Church or the Piedmont Rescue Squad. "

Robert Stephens, age 62, of Gadsden, Alabama passed away on Tuesday, November 28, 2023. Robert was born in AL. Robert made sure everyone was always taken care of. He spent his younger days traveling around the world. He drove a truck and worked in a warehouse for 30 years, he always loved to work. He never met a stranger, and loved everyone so much. He always made everyone laugh, and wanted to best for everyone. His favorite days of all was spending every weekend, and summer break with his best friend/grandson Channing Minyard. He was always thankful and grateful for everything everyone did for him. Robert lived for his grandkids, any time with them was special. Time was precious to him, he valued every minute. He served in the Marines Corps from 1980-1984. He loved to play cards, eat at new restaurants, and grill out. He loved to sit outside for hours. In 1979 he was a graduate of Emma Sansom High School. He would give you the shirt off of his back. He could talk for hours about his kids and grandkids. He was preceded in death by his mother, Joyce Stephens; father, John Stephens; brother, Steve Stephens; sister, Yasmin Stephens. He was survived by daughters, Emily (Blaine) Minyard and Brooklyn Stephens; grandchildren, Bayleigh, Levi, Destiny, Channing, Aibl and Emery Minyard; sister, Yolande Justice and a host of nieces and nephews, and cousins. And longtime friend and ex-spouse, Jeanine Stephens. Pallbearers will be Shane Stephens, Chris Edwards, Shell Gaylor, Dakota Minyard, Adam Chandler, and Colton Arflack. With heartfelt sympathy, we announce the earthly transition of Eddie Lee Witherspoon, Columbia, SC formerly of Gadsden, AL, who traded time for eternity on Thursday, November 23, 2023 at the age of 88. Sergeant Major Eddie L. Witherspoon Sr. , US Army, Retired, was born on May 26, 1935, in Demopolis, Alabama to the parentage of the late George Witherspoon and Louise Mostiller. His faith and confession in Christ began in his youth in Demopolis and continued with him being an active member and Deacon at First Missionary Baptist Church in Alabama City. He established a mentorship group called the Moses Project because he believed in mentoring the youth of today. Especially young men who seemed troubled and going down the wrong path in life. Spoon as he was called by his friends received his formal education in the Alabama public school system. He graduated from Carver High School in Attalla, AL. Upon graduation, Spoon joined the United States Army where he served honorably for 25 plus years. He retired from the Army with the rank of Sergeant Major. After retirement from the Army, Spoon was employed as a District Manager for Reynolds Aluminum Recycling in Columbia, SC. He moved to Macon, Ga. , and was employed as a semi-trailer truck driver. An avid sports fan, the Atlanta Braves was his favorite baseball team and the Auburn Tigers his favorite college football team. Spoon was a loving and devoted family man. He will be sorely missed and will always hold a special place in the hearts of everyone who was blessed to know and love him. On Thursday, November 23, 2023, Spoon departed this life at Rice Creek Estates Nursing Home in Columbia, SC. Edward Lee (Buddy) Heath passed away on November, 27th, at the age of 87 after a sudden illness with his family by his side. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dave Heath and Deatrice Shields Heath, his brother Foy Heath and his oldest sister Dorothy Heath Clonts, and both brothers-in-law Eugene Clonts and Carlos Shaw. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Gail Reynolds Heath, his daughter Karen (Todd) Entrekin and his son Shane (Kim) Heath, his sister Eva Shaw, his two Aunts Donaleen Shields Marbut and Catherine Shields Marbut, his grandchildren: Colee (Ryan) Hill, Mallori (Justin) Entrekin, Jacob (Hannah) Entrekin, Josh Heath and Jarett Heath and great grandchildren Avalyn Hill and Alethea Entrekin, and several nieces and nephews. Buddy was born November 18, 1936 and lived in Hokes Bluff his entire life. He graduated from Hokes Bluff High School in 1955 where he was selected for All County Football. He married the love of his life Gail Reynolds in 1960. Buddy served in the Alabama National Guard for 6 years. He retired from Goodyear in 1994 with 39 of years of service at the age of 58. He was a member of Hokes Bluff Methodist Church. Buddy Heath was beloved by his family and those who knew him. He was a kind, softspoken man of few words, a firm believer in live and let live. He loved his family and he showed it every day. He was a modern-day example that your actions speak much louder to who you are than your words. He was slow to anger, and quick to encourage in all situations. He seldom offered his opinion unless asked but rest assured you knew where he stood and when he saw a wrong, he would do his best to make it right. He loved a good practical joke and liked to laugh and have a good time. He had a lifelong love of fast cars and homemade ice cream. His success in life came from his Spartan like work ethic and his disciplined approach for all things to be done the right way. He will be dearly missed. A memorial service will be held at Collier Butler Funeral Home on Thursday November 30th. Visitation will be from 9:30AM to 10:45AM. Chapel service will be at 11:00AM with a graveside service to follow at Youngs Chapel Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Joshua Heath, Jarett Heath, Todd Entrekin, Jacob Entrekin, Ryan Hill, Justin Austin, Leonard Kiser, and Joe Sweatt. Honorary Pallbearers are Wayne Phillips and Steve Rogers.
