Gaylord William (Bill) Sheeder, husband, father, and grandfather passed away peacefully surrounded by family to be with our Lord on Saturday, April 15, 2023. He was born May 14, 1939, in Canyon City, Colorado to Gaylord William Sr. and Margaret Ellett Sheeder. Shortly after Bill's birth, the family moved from Canyon City to Boulder then from Boulder, the family moved to Longmont in 1945 where his parents started Rexall Drug Store which operated on Main Street for more than 40 years. Bill graduated from Longmont High School in 1957. After graduating, Bill enlisted in the US Army serving in the 101st Airborne and served a full tour and was honorably discharged in 1960. After serving in the Army, Bill moved back to Longmont and enrolled at Colorado State University to pursue a degree in engineering and graduated in 1964. Upon graduating, he married the love of his life (Dalene Peterson) and together they started their journey that has held strong for more than 58 years and had their three children (Marnie, Mike, and Randy) Bill started his engineering career working for the city of Longmont and in a few short years, he accepted the position as City Engineer where he held that position for several years and then made a decision to accept a position with Rocky Mountain Consultants as Principal Partner where he worked various civil engineering projects until retirement when the company was sold in December, 2000. Bill was very active in all sorts of sports including fishing, hunting, skiing, but his most favorite sport of all was golf that he had started at a young age and continued throughout his life. Bill was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather and loved spending time with his family. Some of his most memorable times were enjoyed at the family cabin in Allenspark where so many memories will live on forever. In the last few years, his faith in God was in full display with family and friends by the way he lived and enjoyed life to its fullest. Survivors include his loving wife (Dalene) Sheeder of Longmont, three children: Marine (Mike) Ohlfs of Parker, CO, Mike (Holly) Sheeder of Chicago, Il, Randy (Jeanelle) Sheeder of Centennial, CO. He is also survived by his five grandchildren: Austin and Andrew Ohlfs, Kortney and Nathaniel Sheeder, and Jack Sheeder. In lieu of flowers, donations honoring Bill's memory can be made to Folds of Honor https://foldsofhonor. org/ A funeral service will occur Thursday, May 4th at 11:00 AM at Howe Mortuary, 439 Coffman St, Longmont, CO 80501. A reception will follow at the same location.
