Dean Larson

Dean Larson

Age - 87

November 28, 2023

Dean was born 27 June 1936 to Louise & Roy Larson. He & his older brother Chuck were raised on their farm near Fowler, IN. After graduating from Benton Central High School Dean joined the United States Army and attended engineering school, becoming an equipment mechanic and an expert at using the sub-machine gun. He was sent to Germany where he lost his left leg due to a motorcycle accident. Dean was declared permanently disabled and discharged from the Army. He returned to Indiana and while recuperating, met & married Barbara Sparks. The newlyweds moved to Montana - for the hunting & fishing - and started their family. In 1967 Dean purchased a small home with 5 acres (of mostly trees) outside Fairfield, MT. He would commute to Great Falls for work as a linotype operator for the Great Falls Tribune and then as a Real Estate Agent. However, Dean's 1st love was the opportunity to hunt & fish, going so far as to purchase his very own pond not far from home. Dean also taught his kids how to tie flies, cast a fly rod & clean a fish, inspiring a love & respect for nature. In 1978 the family moved to Bozeman when the oldest daughter was accepted at Montana State University (Go Cats!). Dean continued in Real Estate, traveling between Bozeman and Helena until he determined he needed to devote more time to fishing. Dean traveled extensively in pursuit of the ultimate fishing experience, even going so far away as Canada, England & New Zealand!Dean's wife Barb passed away on Thanksgiving 1997. With all the kids now grown & gone too, he might have been alone if not for the faithful "Coffee Crew" who would meet every morning for coffee & conversation (fish tales?). One such meeting place was Bozeman's Main Street McDonald's, where Dean landed the best catch of his life - Margaret Wilber Larson. They married on January 23rd, 1999, in Reno, NV. Whenever Margaret could pull Dean away from fishing, you could find him in Central Montana where he'd spend time with many of Margaret's siblings, children, grandchildren and many close family friends. Most holidays, family birthdays and other special events were spent in Central Montana with lots of time around the family dinner table followed by cards and board games. Dean was a very patient and generous man. He welcomed many people into his home with open arms and always made you feel as if his home was your home. No matter how many of Margaret's side of the family were in his house all at once, you never heard him complain or get upset from all the chaos - he just went with the flow and enjoyed all the company. Dean and Margaret remained together until his passing on the evening of October 30th, 2023. Dean will be missed by all who knew him; especially his wife, Margaret; son, Louie S. Larson; daughters: Leann L. (Larson) Barrett, Leasu L. (Larson) Miller, and Leslie L. (Larson) Ludwig; stepson, Sid Aamold and stepdaughter, Christy Aamold. A memorial service is being planned in the Spring of 2024 and will be announced at a later date. Show more

During his civilian career, he worked in different fields, but mostly worked in manufacturing. He had a strong work ethic and continuously challenged and motivated his coworkers to be their best. Besides his passion for work, he had several hobbies. Roderic's hobbies included music, and his unwavering esprit the corps. At a young age, he taught himself to play guitar and continued to perfect his craft throughout the entirety of his life, even joining a band while in Germany. Despite getting out of the Army, Roderic's patriotism remained steadfast. He was a avid collector of military memorabilia, weapons, and tactical gear. Shari Garrett

Age - 58

November 16, 2023

Shari Lynn (Yardley) Garrett was born to John Yardley and Georgia Yardley Barker on February 13, 1965, at Wiesbaden Air Base, in Germany and she passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 11, 2023, after a short battle with cancer. Shari and her younger sister, Julia, enjoyed a happy childhood traveling and living mostly in Louisiana, California and later Utah. Her greatest memories were of time spent with family and taking vacations with her loving husband, Ray. Whether it was Cancun, Jamaica, the Bahamas, Catalina Island, Sandals, or just to a California or Texas beach; she wouldn't want to be anywhere else. She loved the time she got to spend with her children and grandchildren outside, in the back yard that she worked so hard on. She married her forever love, Raymond Garrett, on December 11, 1992, in Ogden Utah and they would be celebrating their 31st anniversary in December of this year. Shari and Ray were perfect companions and loved spending time together. They supported each other's passions, hobbies, and quirks. From building decks to entertain company, to planting unlimited amounts of flowers, vegetables, fruits, and whatever else. They shared a love that people search their entire lives for. They loved entertaining family and friends; with Ray on the grill and Shari making her famous potato salad or homemade salsa. You never left their house hungry and if you did it was never a fault of theirs! She leaves behind three sons who she dearly loved - Shaun, BJ, and Austin; two stepchildren - Bradley and Stephanie, six grandchildren, 5 beautiful granddaughters and 1 handsome grandson; Anastasia, Sammy, Patience, Ariel, McKenzie, and Madison; and her step grandchildren Mariah, Isaiah, Jada, and Amelia. She loved each of them dearly and made every effort to show it to them in any way possible. Whether it was random gifts, long loving hugs, or just spending time with them out playing in the yard. She made sure that each of them knew that her love was unconditional. Shari will be remembered by many for her musical talents. She loved playing piano and began playing for her church primary program at the age of 10. She then became the church organist at the age of 12 for her Sunday school program. She was also talented physically and was voted the best player on her Basketball team at Park View High School by the Referees. She shared her passion of sports and music with her children, even if they weren't always accepting of it. Whether it was teaching piano to her oldest, working on cars with her middle child, or supporting her youngest in baseball and golf. She gave everything she had to see them happy and successful. Anyone who knew Shari knew how strong-willed, independent, compassionate, and loving she could be. She was never the warmest person, but you always knew she cared and had yours and everyone else's best interests in mind. She considered everyone her family, and treated and loved her sons' friends, as her own children. She cared deeply about her community and made sure her children were raised to care about what was happening around them as well. To this day, you can find many heated debates in her household over politics, religion, and other "taboo" topics. Her final months were spent in the sweet loving care of her husband Ray. No one could have asked for a better caregiver. We are beyond grateful for everyone who stopped by to see her, to share their love and support, and just to say hi. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your support. At this time, we will not be holding a memorial service. We (and she) would prefer to celebrate her life when everyone can be around and when the weather is warm enough to enjoy what she loved doing. We will announce the dates of her celebration of life as the time gets closer. You are missed and loved more than you'll ever know. Kathy Burmaster

Kathy Burmaster

Age - 72

October 23, 2023

Kathy Burmaster, beloved wife, mother, nana, and friend died unexpectedly on October 8, 2023 while traveling with her husband in Germany. Kathy is survived by her husband John Burmaster, her children, Kate (Sophie Howelle) and Lauren (David Stone-Resneck), her grandchild, Hugo Stone, and her siblings, Diane Knapp, Duane and Jon Dixon. Born in Sharon, Pa. on December 8, 1950 to Jay and Emma Dixon, Kathy graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Gettysburg College where her passion for teaching and art flourished. After an initial year teaching Spanish, culminating in a class trip to Spain, she fell in love with the country and moved to Madrid the following year. She tried many different jobs, including teaching Engish, dubbing movies, being a Winston cigarette girl and doing administrative work for an American company. She took a risk going on a blind date with a fellow American living abroad, John. Upon returning to the US, Kathy began a successful career in international lending with PNC Bank, married John and earned her MBA from University of Pittsburgh. Her next adventure, motherhood, came with twice the joy and double the challenge when she gave birth to twins in 1986. Kathy was a hands-on mother, whether it was volunteering with Girl Scouts, sewing the best Halloween costumes, serving on the Board of Education or spending every weekend on the sidelines of her daughter's activities. She cultivated in them a love of learning and dedication to service. A lifelong learner herself, Kathy devoted herself to the study of art in her retirement. She became a docent at the Barnes Foundation, garnering an impressive knowledge of the collection. She and her husband shared a passion for travel, and Kathy sought out art collections to explore wherever they went. She did this all while tirelessly battling a rare form of papillary thyroid cancer, a battle she fought for a decade. The dauntlessness and courage she'd shown all her life powered her onward and inspired her to help lead a global support network for others with the same diagnosis. Kathy's journey was nothing short of exceptional and her loss is one that we can not fully comprehend. Her giving nature, mischievous spirit, and endless kindness will be deeply missed by her family, friends and all who knew her. Her family and community will forever carry on her joy of living life to its fullest and her warrior spirit. A funeral service will be held November 2 at the Haddonfield Presbyterian Church (20 Kings Highway E, Haddonfield, NJ 08033) with visitation at 10am and a service starting at 11am. Kathy loved bright colors. Please wear them for the service. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Kathy Burmaster may be made in support of thyroid cancer research at Jefferson Health. Contributions will help advance research at the Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center under the direction of Kathy's oncologist and team, including Dr. Marcia Brose. Please make checks payable to "Jefferson" and mail to: Jefferson Health Office of Institutional Advancement, 125 S. 9th Street, Suite 600, Philadelphia, PA 19107.
