Age - 93

October 14, 2023

Dwilette was born to Dwight and Irene Blakely on December 10, 1929, and was married to Dale J Paulsen on June 8th, 1952. From this 68 year union was born 5 children: Daniel, Deana, David, Dawn and Darla. She is survived by all 5 children, 2 daughters-in-law, Charlotte & Rebecca, 10 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. She grew up on a farm south of Beeler, Kansas. She attended grade school through 8th grade in a one room schoolhouse in Buda where she was the Ness County spelling bee champion and valedictorian. Then she went to Beeler HIgh School in Ness County where she was a cheerleader, played basketball and was valedictorian of her county and class of 6! She cringed when her children mispelled "misspelled" words and proofread their English papers with a wicked red pen. Dwilette graduated Summa Cum Laude from Kansas State University in Home Economics and was inducted into Mortar Board in 1952. She put her degree to great use cooking, sewing, gardening, canning, feeding hired hands, making potlucks for church and basket dinners for anybody in need in the community. She found creative uses to rock the rickrack and never wasted a scrap as she would put it on Barbie houses, Mommy and me dresses, pot holders and dish towels. She welcomed anyone to our table including hosting card parties, birthday celebrations and hosting many holiday gatherings with holy ham loaf, homemade rolls, pickles, jellies and pies. In 1956, Dwilette and Dale moved to the family farm south of Zenith. She was very active in the Zenith Presbyterian Church. For decades, she taught Young Adult Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. She was also actively involved in missionary, World Day of Prayer and accompanying the congregation on the piano. While raising her children, Dwilette worked as everybody's favorite substitute teacher for over 30 years in the Stafford and Fairfield school districts. She also interviewed hundreds of area farmers and gathered crop samples. She risked her life and a couple pairs of pants to guard dogs as she collected agricultural statistics for the USDA. Dwilette instilled a love of music in her children. She spent many years driving her kids to piano lessons and gave up her peace & tranquility to the sounds of her spawnlings banging on the ivories. She encouraged many children towards leadership, public speaking and community service as a Corn Valley 4H Club leader for 25 years. She helped build and decorate many fair booths. She was sought after for judging sewing and foods at county fairs all over central Kansas. She worked closely with the Kansas State Extension Services all of her life, even organizing and participating in Walk Across Kansas groups through age 89. For over 50 years, Dwilette was a beloved sister with her PEO pals and she hosted many EHU meetings at her home,Dwilette was the International Flying Farmer Queen and traveled extensively with this family oriented organization touring ranches in Costa Rica and all over the USA and Canada. With IFF, she learned to snow ski in her late 40's and took up snowmobiling in Yellowstone in her 80's. She learned how to take off and land an airplane at Pinky's Airstrip in Sylvia, Kansas. In 2008, Dale and Dwilette built their Colorado retirement dream house along a rushing mountain stream south of Rocky Mountain National Park. They spent many summers and delighted in the company of friends and family that would visit. They enjoyed hanging out on the front porch with the smell of the pine trees, the sound of the St. Vrain flowing by and all the little hummingbirds buzzing around the feeders. Dwilette was active with the Allenspark Community Church and spent many days picking fruit and making thousands of jars of jelly to sell for the Hilltop Guild local scholarships. The Area Club in Allenspark appreciated her fundraising activities and she enjoyed dining with friends at the Lunch Bunch at the Highlands Presbyterian Camp and playing dominoes afterwards. Dwilette was a bright, capable, educated woman. She was a woman who lived life to the fullest. She told Dale as he was dying that he had checked everything off her bucket list. She lived with joy, enthusiasm & infectious laughter. She loved people and never knew a stranger. She had a deep faith in our Lord & Savior. She practiced her beliefs daily. Her family has great comfort knowing she is in heaven and we will see her again. Dwilette passed away peacefully on October 11 2023. Funeral service will be 3:00 p. m. , Saturday, October 21 at Minnis Chapel, Stafford.
