Garrett Davis Obituary

Garrett Mark Davis, 80, of Tampa, Florida, passed away on April 22, 2023. Garrett, fondly known as Garry, was born to Dorothy and Leon Davis, on September 23, 1942, in Philadelphia, PA. His early childhood was spent surrounded by his loving family and friends until 1954 when he went to attend private school at Valley Forge Military Academy. After graduating high school, Garry went on to attend college at the United States Military Academy (USMA) where he was a model cadet serving as a member of the Plebe Detail Staff (see picture). In 1965, Garry graduated from the USMA and was deployed to the Vietnam War, where he served for two tours from 1965 to 1967. During his time of service, he was in active combat as a Captain in the Armor Branch of the U. S. Army. For his service, he was awarded a Purple Heart. During his second tour in Vietnam, Garry met a local Vietnamese woman, Hanh (Lan) and they married in Thailand shortly thereafter, and then was stationed at Fort Dix, NJ. In 1971 Garry began working at the Federal Bureau of Investigation as a special agent, kickstarting a 27-year career with the FBI. In the coming years, Garry and Lan went on to have two children, Victoria, and Mark. In 1998, after retiring from the FBI, the following year Garry and Lan relocated from the Washington, DC area to Honolulu, HI, and subsequently lived an unfettered lifestyle for the next two decades residing in Vietnam for a short time, and lastly Tampa, Florida. During that time, they traveled through Asia, on many occasion hosting friends and family, something that brought Garry great happiness in his retirement years. Aside from his love for travel, Garry was passionate about politics, the stock market, finding the perfect cha gio (Vietnamese spring rolls), and his wife's homemade desserts. He touched many lives with his generosity, sense of humor, and zest for life. Garry is survived by his wife, Lan, and two children, Victoria, and Mark. He is also survived by his sister, Arleen Betaque. He leaves behind two grandchildren, Drew, and Julie. A celebration of life for Garrett will be held Wednesday, May 17, 2023 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Blount and Curry Funeral Home Oldsmar West Hillsborough Chapel, 6802 SILVERMILL DR, TAMPA, FL 33635.
