Smethport - Gail M. Wilson, 73, of Mount Jewett, passed away surrounded by her loving family on Saturday (September 9, 2023) at her home. She was born December 6, 1949 in Clearfield, PA, the daughter of Ralph and Madelyn (Buck) Graham. She has been together with Richard Anderson, Jr. of Mt. Jewett for many years. Gail was a graduate of Clearfield Area Schools and was the sleep lab coordinator at Bradford Regional Medical Center in Bradford, PA. Gail was passionate about helping people. She showed it in her job at the sleep lab and with the love she showed her family. In addition to her companion Richard, she is survived by: Two sons: Travis R. Wilson of Clearfield, PA and Colton Anderson of Wellsboro, PA Four daughters: Linsey S. (Zachary T. Bennett) Wilson of Philipsburg, PA, Brittanie (James, Jr. ) Peffer of Kane, PA, Shawna (Justin Pier) Anderson of Wellsboro, PA, and Kaylee (Josh) Johnson of Smethport, PA Grandchildren: Addison & Isaiah Wimer, Karlee Anderson, Maci & Owen Arthurs, James Peffer, III, Jaylynn & Jaxson Peffer, Jemma Johnson, Jett & Silas Anderson, and Aydia Johnson Great grandchild: Lauren Anderson Sisters: Diana (Ronald) Wolf of Drifting, PA, Yolonda J. (Lee Walters) Bliss of Lanse, PA and Susan (Frank) Russo of South Carolina And several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one grandchild, Emma Arthurs. Vistitation and services will be held privately with close friends and family. Burial will be in the Gillingham Cemetery, Frenchville, PA. Elaine Boylan, 87, of Route 219 Kane, passed away Thursday (Nov 30) at UPMC-Kane. Born March 18, 1936 in Brookston, she is the daughter of the late August and Frances (Blauser) Leichtenberger. On July 10, 1953 she married John Boylan, who preceded her in death. Elaine was a dedicated volunteer and a giving person to her community. She loved cooking and baking and was always quick to share what she made with others. She enjoyed spending time with her family and was very proud of them. She is survived by one son David "Mitch" (Sue) Boylan of Mt. Jewett; three daughters, Debbie Defibaugh of Smethport, Lori (Ralph) Moyer of Charlotte, NC and Helen (Frank) Funari of New Wilmington; six grandchildren, Patty (Lance) Walker, Tom (Nikki) Boylan, Joe (Heather) Boylan, John Defibaugh, Vinnie Funari, and Linnea Funari; six great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren; one sister, Mary Moore, two sisters-in-law, Margaret and Barb Leichtenberger and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters. A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday (Dec. 16) at 11:00 a. m. at St. Callistus Catholic Church with the Rev. William O'Brien as celebrant. The family will be receiving friends the hour preceding the service (10:00 a. m. - 11:00 a. m. ) in the Gathering Space at St. Callistus. For those who may not be able to make it, the family will also be hosting a celebration of Elaine's life some time in the summer. In lieu of flowers, the family recommends cooking or baking for others during the holiday season, which is what Elaine would be doing. Memorial donations may be made to the Mt. James Joseph Weaver Jr. , 69, of 435 Haines St. , passed away Sunday (Nov. 19) at his home surrounded by his loving family. Born Sept. 15, 1954, in Ft. Benning, GA, he is the son of the late James and Lola (McKenna) Weaver. On March , 1, 1996, in Las Vegas, he married Judy Bloss, who survives. Jim had worked in the Oil Fields, retiring as a Superintendent of Field Operations. He was a member of the Kane Area Tavern Pool League for over 25 years and was an avid hunter and especially enjoyed hunting turkeys. Some of the family's greatest memories were spent with him in the woods. He had a great sense of humor and a quick wit, and oftentimes would find a way to inject humor into any situation. He was also a self taught artist, and he enjoyed painting items of sentimental value for his friends and family. Those special gifts he left behind will be cherished forever. His grandchildren were the love of his life. He was a proud Papa who enjoyed spending as much time as possible with his grandchildren who absolutely adored him. In addition to Judy, the love of his life, he is also survived by three sons, James (Monica) Weaver of Beaver, Andrew (Jennifer) Johnson and Colton Johnson, both of Kane; three granddaughters, Lola and Claire Weaver and Avery Johnson; two grandsons, Charlie Weaver and Levi Johnson; five sisters, Charmaine Wade of CA, Diane Miller of CA, Nita Reireson of ID, Jeanine Weaver of SC and Renee Weaver of Kane; one brother Bill Weaver of Pen Argyl and a special uncle, Richard Weaver of VA and many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter-in-law, Monica Weaver. A celebration of Jim's life will be held at a future date. Michael Avenali, 94, of Route 6 Kane, passed away Friday morning (Nov. 11) at the Buffalo Regional Medical Center. Born May 18, 1929 in Kane, he is the son of the late Peter and Josephine (Lorenzo) Avenali. On Feb. 25, 1950 in Ridgway, he married Alfreda Weatherbee, who preceded him in death. Mike served in the US Army and was a WWII veteran. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather , and great grandfather to his large family. He worked at Domtar for 49 years and also owned Avenali's Yamaha motorcycle shop for 14 years. He was a member of the Mt. Jewett American Legion, the Kane Fish and Game Club and the NRA. He is survived by one daughter, Christine (Rick) Jolly of Kane; three sons, Michael (Clara) Avenali, John (Eve) Avenali and Richard Avenali all of Kane; five grandsons Anton Farley, Michael Avenali, Jake Avenali, Jesse Jolly and Adam Avenali; four granddaughters, Bonnie Lindquist, Katie Smith, Sarah Murray and Nicole Swanson; four great-granddaughters, Natalie Smith, Carissa Smith, Madison Lindquist and Eleanor Lindquist; five great-grandsons, Conley Swanson, Cooper Swanson, Silas Lindquist, Alex Lindquist and Conor Murray and his loving pet Pepper. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Michele Cook, one son Peter Guy Avenali and one great-grandson Patrick William Murray. Friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial that will be celebrated on Thursday (Nov. 16) at Noon at the St. Callistus Catholic Church, with the Rev. William O'Brien, as celebrant. Clyde T. Walters, 99, formerly of Horner Rd. in Wilcox, passed away Saturday (Aug. 5) at the Lutheran Home at Kane. Born Sept. 26, 1923 in Kane, he is the son of the late Thomas and Mary Anna (Hulings) Walters Sr. On July 3, 1942, he married Bette Whippo, who preceded him in death. Clyde was a member of the Wilcox Sportsman Club, the Wilcox American Legion post 467, The Free and Accepted Masons Lodge #566, and the Rolfe Beagle Club, where he had served as president. He was an avid Beaglar and loved hunting, fishing and spending time with his family. He had been employed at the Tannery in Wilcox, the Sergeant Glass Plant and then retired from Penn Tech in Johnsonburg. He is a WWII Army veteran. After completing basic training he was transferred by ship to Pearl Harbor. Assigned to the 121st field Artillery Unit, his duties included operation of 105mm Howitzer with ammunition weighing in at 100 lbs each. He was a member of the Red Arrow Division. When the war was over, he was transferred to Luzon Island in the Philippines to complete peace keeping missions in Japan. While there he contracted malaria, that affected him for many years. He was discharge in 1946 as a Sergeant Section Chief. Surviving relatives include a daughter Donna Lee Cornelius of Kane and a daughter-in-law, Mary Jo Walters of St. Marys; four grandsons, Rick Francen of IL, Mark Francen of FL Jeff Francen of Lewis Run and Scott (Kira) Walters of Wilcox; one granddaughter Wendy (Jake) Hodgdon of FL and several great-grandchildren, great great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, Clyde T. Walters, Jr and Leslie David Walters, a son-in-law, John Cornelius; two sisters, Twila Rossman and Ernie Hallberg and two brothers, Joe Walters and Ted Walters. Friends are invited to attend a visitation that will take place Thursday (Aug. 10) at the Cummings Funeral Home from 10:00-11:00 a. m. A funeral service will immediately follow at 11:00 with the Rev. David Pflieger officiating. Burial and full military services will be conducted at the Wilcox Cemetery, following the funeral. Masonic services will be conducted prior to the visitation at 9:30 a. m. for those who wish to attend. Deborah Janz, 68, of E. Main St. in Mt Jewett, passed away Tuesday (July 25) at her residence. Born Dec. 31, 1954 in St. Louis, MO, she is the daughter of the late David and Mary Louise (English) Kamer. Debbie was a self-proclaimed hippie with a strong spiritual side who loved spending time in the outdoors and tending to her garden. An avid reader and creative writer, she enjoyed volunteering at the library and her time with the book club. She fell in love with her new community, forging friendships that brought her great happiness. For everyone who knew her, Debbie had the biggest heart and was full of love. Debbie grew up in the world of dance. She progressed from studying to teaching dance, owning her own studio at one point. She was passionate about dance and the arts her entire life. She is survived by two sons, Jason (Kelly) Hughes of Mt. Jewett and David (April) Hughes of Charlotte, NC; a daughter Heidi (Travis) Ham of St. Louis, MO; six grandsons, Ashton Hughes, Dawson Taylor, Luke Hughes, Joey Hughes, TJ Janz, and Corey Ham; three sisters, Barbara Tebeau-Merlino of NC, Donna Nanney of FL, and Bonnie Fetsch of MO; as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister Judy Schenk. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday (July 29) at 2:00 p. m. at her residence (12 E. Main St. , Mt. Jewett).
