John M. Tighe, Jr. , a loving and spirited man with an optimistic outlook on life, passed away peacefully on November 17, 2023 in Escondido, California. Born on October 5, 1937, in Tucson, Arizona, John's life was a testament to resilience, perseverance, and the power of a positive attitude. Despite being born with disabilities that prevented him from attending public school, John never let his circumstances define him. His infectious personality and warm spirit were magnets for people from all walks of life. He was a man who easily made friends and left a lasting impact on everyone he met. John was the only child of John M. Tighe, Sr. and Florence C. (Jones) Tighe, both of whom preceded him in death. While he never had the chance to build a traditional family of his own, John found a different kind of family in the residents and staff of the various group homes where he spent much of his life. The relationships he cultivated there were deep and meaningful, and he was cherished by those who shared his daily life. A lifelong lover of music and television, John found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He could often be found humming along to his favorite tunes or cheering on his beloved Dodgers. His enthusiasm for Dodger Baseball was infectious, and he was known to bring a room to life with his spirited commentary during games. John's life may not have followed a traditional path, but it was full of love, laughter, and the kind of genuine relationships that many people strive for. He was a beacon of positivity, always ready with a smile or a kind word. His impact on those around him was profound, and he will be remembered for his loving nature and spirited optimism. In his passing, John leaves behind a legacy of love and positivity. William "Bill" Louis Hoese, age 86 of Escondido, California died at home following a prolonged illness on November 17, 2023. He was born in Pittsburg, Kansas, the son of Maurice Porter Hoese and Bernice Jeanette (Parks) Hoese. On September 26, 1959, he married Elinor Diane (Romero) Hoese in Carmel By The Sea, California. Together they shared 64 years of marriage. Bill leaves behind his children, William "Skip" (Stephannie Pugh-Hoese) Hoese, Michael (Bonnie) Hoese, Erin (Jeffrey) Baehr, and James (Amanda Delwiche) Hoese, and his 9 grandchildren, Frances (Jacob) Vornholt, Lauren Baehr, Grace Hoese, Lucas Baehr, L Hoese, Riley Apra, Micah Hoese, Evan Baehr, and Cody Hoese. Bill grew up in North Park, and played football at San Diego High School. He was then active in Air Force ROTC and made life-long friends with his brotherhood in Sigma Chi fraternity at San Diego State University. He served active duty as an intelligence officer in the Air Force for 5 years, earning the Joint Service Commendation Medal. He was discharged from active duty and resumed his studies, graduating from the Bolt Law School at UC Berkeley in 1966. He joined the law firm of Luce, Forward, Hamilton and Scripps in 1966, was admitted to the State Bar of California in 1967, and became a partner at the firm, practicing with a focus on mergers and acquisitions. He was a founding member of the San Diego County Bar Foundation, which provides San Diego's underserved access to life-changing legal services and education. After retiring from Luce, Forward, he became general counsel at American Tool Companies, Inc. in Kenosha, Wisconsin. Bill and Diane returned to San Diego in 2002 and Bill became general counsel to Cubic Corporation until falling ill in 2011. Bill had a passion for his family and friends. He loved getting his kids out of bed at the crack of dawn on Sunday mornings to go water skiing on San Diego Bay or Mission Bay. He thoroughly enjoyed boating; a fondly remembered trip involved motoring Desolation Sound, British Columbia. Bill was a member of the Kona Kai Club and the San Diego Yacht Club. He loved snow skiing, tinkering on his work bench, having lunch with friends, and getting together with family. The funeral is open to all family and friends and will be held at Miramar National Cemetery, 5795 Nobel Dr, San Diego, CA, on Friday, November 24, 2023 at 11:15 am (arrival by 11:00 am).
