Fred "Pops" Lookingbill, 84, of Friona, Texas, passed away on Saturday, April 8, 2023, in Friona. Celebration of Life Services will be held on Thursday, April 13, 2023, at the Mendez and Mullins Family Funeral Home Chapel in Hereford, Texas, at 2:00 PM. Burial will follow at Rest Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Hereford, Texas. Arrangements and services have been entrusted to Mendez and Mullins Family Funeral Home of Hereford, Texas. Fred was born September 25, 1938, in Hereford, Texas, to L. B. and Eva (Noland) Lookingbill. Fred graduated from Hereford High School in 1958, where he was known for being a great athlete in football and excelling in basketball. He married Sandy Albright on May 7, 1970, in Summerfield, Texas. He and Sandy's journey consisted of several homes from Texas up to Nebraska, and finally back to Texas, where they chose Friona as their final destination. Fred enjoyed working in the cattle industry for most of his life. He was the treasurer for the Class of 1958 and helped organize the class reunions. Fred enjoyed team roping as a header, playing golf, and socializing with his buddies, cooking, tending to his vegetable garden of black-eyed peas, okra, and tomatoes, and driving his golf cart around Friona, but his greatest love was his family and especially his grandchildren. Fred's sense of humor, orneriness, smile, and presence will be dearly missed by many. Those left to cherish his memories are his wife, Sandy Lookingbill of Friona, Texas, his children, Alan McCright and his wife Lynne of Canyon, Texas, Kelly Lookingbill and his wife Tonya of Friona, Texas, Kurt Lookingbill of Hereford, Texas, Kimberly Fry and her husband David of Ft. Worth, Texas, Andy McCright and his wife Viki of Parkland, Florida, and Alison Martin and her husband Shorty of Aspermont, Texas; 13 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Fred is preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers, Bradley, Jim, and Bill Lookingbill, a sister, Ann Clearman, and a son-in-law, Ned Swink, and several aunts, uncles, and many dear friends.
