CARENCRO ~ Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 15th at 11:00 a. m. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Peter's Catholic Church in Carencro, Louisiana for Leon Earl Comeaux, age 87, who peacefully passed away on November 12th at his home surrounded by his beloved wife, Lanell, and children. Throughout his 87 years, Leon was so many things to so many people. He was a son, a brother, a hero, a role model, a husband, a dad, a "Papa", an Uncle Trouble, and a friend. Leon truly had a heart of gold, always looking out for others, lending a listening ear and he was a good Samaritan. Interment will be held in St. Peter's Cemetery in Carencro. Father Mark Ledoux, pastor of St. Bridget Catholic Church in Lawtell, will officiate the services. Musical selections will be provided by Jodi Bollich. The songs will be Amazing Grace, Ava Maria, Panis Angelicus and How Great Thou Art. Leon was born September 19, 1936, in Carencro, Louisiana, to the late Leon Joseph Comeaux and Sarah Conque Comeaux. He was a native and lifelong resident of Carencro, where he attended St. Anne's Convent and graduated from Carencro High School in 1954. After graduation, he attended Southwestern Louisiana Institute, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science in geology in 1958. Leon had a 48 year illustrious career as a geological consultant working for Superior Oil Company, Ted Hoz & Associates, and later establishing Leon Comeaux & Associates. Leon was active in his community as a member of numerous organizations, including the American Association of Petroleum Geologists, the Lafayette Geological Society, Society of Independent Professional Earth Scientists, and was a board member of the Lafayette Petroleum Club. Additionally, he coached youth baseball and served as president of the baseball association. In 1957 Leon married his high school sweetheart, Lanell Ann Potier. He was an adoring, loving, devoted husband to his "sweet baby" for 66 years. Together, they welcomed and raised five beautiful children, thirteen grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren. Leon was a faithful and devout Catholic, who was a daily communicant. He had a devotion to Divine Mercy and Saint Philomena. Leon was an adorer at the Eucharistic Adoration Chapel, member of the Serra Club, coordinator of the annual Bishop's Services Appeal for St. Peter's Church and also served as a Eucharistic Minister to the elderly at Evangeline Oaks Nursing Facility for 28 years. Survivors include his wife, Lanell Potier Comeaux of Carencro; his five children, Mandy Fisher of Carencro, Scott Comeaux (Carmen) of Lafayette, Dave Comeaux (Susan), Kay Crane of Eatonton, Georgia, and Laurie Comeaux (Byron Smith) of Austin, Texas; one sister, Sarah Clavelle of Carencro; 13 grandchildren, Adam Fisher (Ellen), Emily Stanley (Justin Pettit), Maggie Reed (Joshua), Phillip Fisher, Tatiana Comeaux, Ruslan Comeaux (Taylor), Daniel Comeaux (Philip Crean), Rachel Comeaux (Jonathan Olivier), Adrian Crane (Sydney), Cameron Crane (Madison), Josie Ver Steeg (Paul), Emma Blackwood, and Iris Blackwood; 12 great grandchildren, Leon, Amos, Isaac, Oscar, Toby, Eva, Olivia, Jayde, Ralph, Hugh-David, Mary-Nell, and Rose-Mae; a brother-in-law Felix Potier (Juanita); a sister-in-law Denise Copeland (Jack); and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leon and Sarah Comeaux; two sisters, Betty David, and Nelda Travis; two brothers-in-law, Neil David and Ned Travis; a son-in-law, Jeffrey Crane. On Tuesday, November 14th, visitation will be observed from 4:00pm until 8:00pm at Evangeline Memorial Gardens, with the recitation of the rosary at 6:00pm. Pallbearers will be his six grandsons, Adam Fisher, Phillip Fisher, Ruslan Comeaux, Daniel Comeaux, Adrian Crane and Cameron Crane. Honorary pallbearers will be his brothers-in-law, Felix Potier and Jack Copeland. The family offers a special thanks to his loving caregivers, Suzanne Manuel, Precious August, Darlene Wiltz and Christina Ruth.
