Frances B. Sather, age 84 of Grafton, North Dakota, passed away Friday, September 8, 2023 at her home in Grafton. Funeral Services will be Wednesday, September 13, 2023 at 10:30 A. M. at the Grafton Lutheran Church, Grafton, North Dakota. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at the Grafton Lutheran Cemetery.

Diana S. Kitchens, 80, passed away on Wednesday, December 6, 2023 at the Lutheran Sunset Home of Grafton, ND. Diana Sylvia Roth was born June 11, 1943 to Henry and Katherina (Ude) Roth at Golden Valley, ND. They followed her father's work of building missile silos throughout North Dakota. She attended schools in Minot, Stanley, Devils Lake, and Grand Forks. She met Kenneth Kitchens in Minot, ND and they were married February 18, 1961. They were blessed with two children (Jeffrey and Tambra). They lived in Georgia, Minot, Devils Lake, Grand Forks, Dilworth MN, Fergus Falls MN, and Grafton. They settled in Grafton in 1975. Diana lived a life caring for others. She worked at numerous retail businesses but spent many years at Cox's Bakery and the State School in Grafton. She took great pride in her children and grandchildren. You never left her house hungry and in fact you probably left with food. She liked to bake, do puzzle books, and crochet. She was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Grafton which recently closed. She enjoyed her RV trip across Western Canada, The Yukon and Alaska in 2018 with her brother Larry, sister-in-law Sharyl, daughter Tambra and the Olson's. There was always family there working on a project at her house as she took a run-down house and made it like new. Diana is survived by her children: Jeffrey (Joann) and Tambra; grandchildren: Travis (Kristina) Kitchens, Nathan (Kirsten) Kitchens, Amanda (Andrew) Buettner, Adam (Kristine) Kitchens, Alex (Alison) Kitchens, Abbey Kitchens, Derek Kitchens, and Devin (Victoria) Kitchens; great grandchildren: Austin, Brooklyn, Avery, Eastyn, and Brinley Kitchens, Seth, Lucas, and Callie Kitchens, Elliot and Haddie Buettner, Ryan, Carson, and Micah Kitchens, Gracelynn Kitchens, Devin Jr. , Prestyn, Roman, and Avalanna Kitchens; brother: Myron Roth, sisters-in-law Judy Roth and Sharyl Roth; and numerous nieces and nephews also survive. She is preceded in death by her parents, ex-husband Kenneth Kitchens; great grandsons: James Buettner and infant Noah Kitchens; sisters and brothers-in-law: Rosella (Sally) and Ron Butters, Edna (Arlan) Hildenbrand, and Ray Vetter; brothers: Raymond and Larry; and nieces: Katharine Hildenbrand and Patty (Hunter) Suddath. Memorial Services will be on Friday, December 15, 2023 at 10:30 a. m. at Grafton Lutheran Church, Grafton, ND. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Carol B. Spale, age 93 of Grafton, ND passed away on Friday, November 17, 2023 at the Park River Good Samaritan Center. Carol Betty Mashek was born February 24, 1930 in Wyndmere, ND the daughter of the late Louis and Hattie Mashek. She attended schools there and worked in the area following her education. Carol married Elder Mathiesen and they had one daughter, Janelle. Following Elder's death, Carol moved to Grand Forks, ND to be near her daughter and family. She worked at L&M Meats for several years, then moved to Grafton in 1978 where she worked as a cashier at the Jack & Jill Grocery Store. Carol married T. J. Spale on December 3, 1980 in Grafton. The couple made their home here and she continued to work at Jack & Jill until she retired in the early '90's. Carol was a wonderful cook and loved baking and canning. Everyone loved her pies and pickles. She also enjoyed embroidery and crochet and was well-known for her beautiful doilies. In her later years, she cherished her volunteer work at the historical Heritage Village in Grafton. Carol is survived by her husband, T. J. , Grafton, ND; three grandchildren: Dawn (Doug) Vanyo, Fargo, ND, Diane (Dave) Dolan, Round Rock, TX, and Derek (Jenny) Werner, Horace, ND; seven great-grandchildren: Alexia Werner, Emma Vanyo, Lauryn Vanyo, Tyler (Kayli) Dolan, Shaina Dolan, Peyton Werner, and Samuel Werner; one great-great-grandson Channing Dolan; sisters: Jeanette Froslie, Chula Vista, CA, and Helen Novotny, Lidgerwood, ND. She was preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Hattie, brother, Harlan, first husband, Elder, daughter, Janelle Werner, sister, Beverly Huus, and half-siblings, Doris Helgeson, Lyle Mashek, Harold Mashek, Edith Jordheim, James (Mike) Mashek, and Edward Mashek. Funeral services will be Friday, November 24nd, 2023 at 10:00. A. M. at the Tollefson Funeral Home of Grafton. Friends may call at the funeral home for one hour prior to the service. Joseph "Joe" Flahavan Landrigan, age 71 of St. Thomas, ND passed away on Sunday, November 12, 2023 at his home. Joe was born December 13, 1951 to the late John and Mollie (Flahavan) Landrigan in Grand Forks, ND. He was raised in St. Thomas, ND where he attended St. Thomas Public School and played football. In 1969, Joe enlisted in the US Navy at age 18. He completed basic training in San Diego, CA. In 1970, he joined the Vietnam War onboard the U. S. S. Richard B. Anderson where he was stationed in Japan until he was honorably discharge in 1974. Joe returned to St. Thomas, ND where he resided for the remainer of his life. He married in 1976 and was the proud father of 2 daughters. Joe attended Wahpeton State School of Science and graduated with degrees in Heating and Cooling and Plumbing. Joe worked as a plumber and ran his own plumbing business for several years. He worked in Grafton at Kutz & O'Brien and at the boiler plant at the Developmental Center before retiring. Joe loved his daughters, grandchildren, longtime companion and friend Kim Littlejohn, dogs, friends, and his community. Joe enjoyed working on cars and raced stock cars at the Grand Forks Speedway, Hallock and Hamilton. He was an avid NASCAR and Steelers fan. Joe will be greatly missed by his children: Jayce (Richie) Schumacher, Grafton, ND, Keeley (Paul) Ray, Maple Grove, MN; 7 grandchildren Greer, John, Elle, and Jack Schumacher and Fallon, Arden, and Farrah Ray; sisters Kass (Jim) Mihelich, Tower, MN, Mollie (Gordon) Weis, Seabrook Island, SC; nieces and nephew. He was preceded in death by his mother, father, sister Mary Sue Landrigan, beloved dogs Sam and Sam 2. Funeral Services will be held in St. Thomas on Monday, November 27, 2023 at 10:00 a. m. at St. John's Lutheran Church. Inurnent will follow at the St. Thomas Catholic Cemetery. A lunch celebration will follow at the St. Thomas American Legion. Military rites will be provided by the St. Thomas American Legion and the US Navy Honor Guard.Show more
