Born on September 1, 1979, in New Jersey, she brought joy and light into the lives of all who knew her. Her warm smile and generous spirit will be deeply missed. Melissa's journey through life was marked by her love for her children. She was a mother to her son, Robert Lewis Hylton (Conner Cox) of Shawsville, VA, and her daughter, Faith Whittaker (Cordell McGuff) of Radford, VA. Melissa also shared a special bond with her siblings, Daniel Trivett Jr (Robin), Shannon Trivett (Ken Sr), and Memory Jean Strolh. She was preceded in death by her parents, who instilled in her the values of kindness and compassion that she carried with her throughout her life. Melissa was a lifelong learner, having earned an Associates Degree that furthered her career and personal growth. Her intellectual curiosity was by her creativity, which she expressed through her passion for photography. Melissa had an extraordinary talent for capturing the beauty of the world around her, and her photographs often reflected the beauty she found in the simplest of scenes. An ardent lover of animals, Melissa found joy in the company of all creatures great and small. Her kindness knew no bounds, and it extended to every living being she encountered. Her affinity for nature was evident in her love for nature walks, where she found peace and solace in the tranquility of the great outdoors. Melissa's life was a testament to the power of positivity and the impact one person can have on the world around them. She approached every day with a sense of wonder and gratitude, and her legacy is one of love, laughter, and the pursuit of happiness. As we say goodbye to Melissa, we celebrate the life she lived and the memories she leaves behind. Teresa Carole Moser Street, 81, of Salem, Virginia, passed away on Monday, November 20, 2023. She was a native of Hickory, North Carolina and spent the last thirty-five years of her life with her husband, Dick, in Salem. Teresa was a graduate of Hickory High School and Concordia Teachers College in River Forest, Illinois. As a young adult she worked as an elementary school teacher. Teresa was active in Christ Lutheran Church for many years and greatly cherished her church family. Her love and dedication to her husband was on special display for the last 14 years of her life as his health declined and she became his caregiver. Teresa is survived by her husband of 55 years, Richard J. Street, Jr. ; sister, Eve Moser Jones (Charles); brother, Rick Moser; nieces and nephews, Lindsay Jones Webster (Jesse) of Raleigh, N. C. , Chuck Jones (Suzanne) of Wake Forest, N. C. , Rick Moser II (Monica) of Hickory, N. C. , and Gid Moser of Lincolnton, N. C. ; and seven great-nieces and great-nephews. She is predeceased by her parents, Marshall Brooks Moser and Katie Honeycutt Moser, and sister-in-law, Cindy Moser. A funeral service will be held at 1 p. m. on Tuesday, November 28, 2023, at Christ Lutheran Church in Roanoke. The graveside service will take place at 1 p. m. on Thursday, November 30, 2023, in Catawba Memorial Park in Hickory, N. C. Kevin Dean Gordon, 53, of Salem, Virginia, went to be with the Lord on Friday, November 17, 2023. Born in Roanoke, Va. , on May 22, 1970, to the late Dallas Lee Gordon and Patty Cannaday Gordon, he is also preceded in death by his good friend, Jeff Huddleston. Kevin was never one to sit still; he was always tinkering around the house and fixing things. His garage was his man-cave, where he shared good times with friend and family and solved all the world's problems. Kevin was a known grillmaster and loved hosting cookouts for friends and family. His yard was immaculate, as was his lawnmower, and he took great pride in mowing the perfect lawn stripes. Leaves changing color means one thing - FOOTBALL - and Kevin was a die-hard Steelers fan! Always a Spartan, he loved Friday nights under the lights watching Salem High School football games. Above all, he adored his family, especially his precious grandbabies. Those left to cherish his memory are his mother, Patty Cannaday Gordon; wife, Julie Ashman; sons, Zack (Grace) Gordon and Hunter Gordon; step-sons, David Ashman and Christian Adkins; grandchildren, Kolbie and Kalani Gordon; brothers, Randy (Laurie) Gordon and Derek (Sheila) Gordon; nieces, Maria Gordon and Jessica Simmons; nephew, Josh Simmons, as well as many great friends.
