Westbury, NY

We are saddened to announce the passing of Frances T. Prentice of Westbury, NY, who departed this earthly existence on Saturday, April 22, 2023, at age 84, after an extended illness. She is predeceased by her loving and devoted husband, Richard Prentice. A beloved mother, sister, grandmother, and friend, Frances was the 2nd child born to Stephen and Sarah Marchiano. She grew up in Brooklyn, NY with a large and boisterous Italian family, enjoying many lively gatherings with grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins. Frances was introduced to the love of her life, Richard Prentice, by one of his cousins, who knew they were "perfect for each other" in every way. Frances and Richard were married in 1966 and, in the late 1970's, decided to move out of Queens to the suburbs of Nassau County to continue their quest to raise a family. Being very industrious, Frances' work ethic was very evident at a young age. She obtained her first employment stint as a secretary at Pfizer, Inc. right out of high school, until her first child was born. It was this appointment at Pfizer, where Frances met three of her closest and dearest friends with whom she has shared over 55 years of friendship. Frances left her job at Pfizer to be a homemaker and raise her two daughters. She then launched her second career by earning a certificate to become an electrocardiography (EKG) technician/transcriber. She worked throughout the 1980's and 1990's at Winthrop University Hospital as part of their telemetry healthcare team. When Frances was not working outside of the home, you could find her elbow deep in her garden, planting and propagating tomatoes, peppers, and green beans or using her bounty to stir up a delicious Italian meal in her kitchen. Her family was her true pride and joy. Her friends were for her gifts from God and sources of love, strength and inspiration. Frances leaves behind her brother Nicholas Marchiano and sister-in-law, Marie Marchiano, her two loving daughters, Karen Neilson (Ken) and Lisa McClain (Stephen), her three grandchildren Nicole, Christian and Andrew, numerous cousins, extended family members and devoted friends.
