Frances Arleen "Tinker" (Bullock) Hughes passed away peacefully at home with family at her side on June 20, 2022, at the age of 83. Frances was born on August 8 , 1938, to Eva and Jack Bullock in Jerome, Idaho. They moved to East Helena when she was 7. She spent most of her youth outside working and exploring on the family farm. Frances graduated from Helena Cathedral in 1956 and continued her education at Carroll College completing the nursing program. Frances went to work at St. James Hospital, where she cared for many patients, including her future husband. On June 25, 1960, she married her favorite (most difficult) patient, John Hughes of Butte. In 1964 they moved to Darby, Montana where they raised their family and worked until 2002. Frances' professional years were spent working as a nurse in the hospital, local clinic, ambulance, and Job Corp, substitute teaching in the local school district, as well as owning upholstery and craft businesses. Upon their retirement in 2002, they moved to the Butte area where they could spend more time with family. Frances was a very loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend. Her commitment to family was very evident, especially in her relationship with John, her best friend and husband for 62 years. She was her daughters, Kathleen and Eileen's biggest cheerleader and partner in crime. Traveling anywhere and everywhere to watch sporting events and activities, to lend a helping hand, or to simply go on an adventure together. Her retirement was busy with being Grandma Nana to Jacob, Nathan, Nick, and Sadie. Her grandkids were her pride and joy and she loved spending time with them and cheering them on in all they did. Unconditional love and support is the best way to describe what being a grandma meant to her. Frances had a great sense of humor too. For 28 years she gracefully received Tinker Bell gifts from her loving son-in-law Pete while returning the favor with the most outlandish PJ's she could find. Frances is survived by her husband John Hughes, daughters, Kathleen Hughes and Eileen Steilman, son-in-law Pete Steilman, and grandchildren Jacob, Nathan, Nicholas, and Sadie Steilman, sister-in-law Emily Hughes and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Eva and Jack Bullock. Celebration of Life and funeral mass will be held on Friday June 24 at the Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 4201 Continental Drive, Butte, MT. Visitation begins at 10 am with a Funeral Mass at 11 am. A reception for friends and family will be held following the service. Frances had a heart of gold, always helping others in need. Her favorite charities were New Hope Clinic of Butte, St. Jude Children's Hospital, and Shriners Children's Hospital.
