Floyd K. String, 92, of Lower Paxton Township, passed away Tuesday October 3, 2023 at Columbia Cottage, Linglestown. Born May 23, 1931, in Harrisburg, Floyd was the son of the late Noble F. and Blanche K. (Kieffer) String of Camp Hill. Floyd served in the United States Navy aboard the USS Corregidor, from 1951 to 1955, during the Korean War. On May 30, 1953, he married Lois G. (Finkbone) String, with whom he has spent a devoted union of 70 years. As a teenager, Floyd started working in the family business that his father had established in 1929. At the time of his retirement, at the age of 80, he was serving as President of N. F. String & Son, Inc. , Coin Wrap, Inc. and S&R Management. A 32nd Degree Mason, Floyd was a member of the Robert Burns Lodge #464 F. & A. M. , Scottish Rite Valley of Harrisburg A. A. S. R. , Zembo Shrine and the Tall Cedars of Lebanon, Harrisburg Forest #43, where he was involved in its Special Interest Auto Unit. A member of Zion Lutheran Church, Harrisburg, for the last 56 years, he served on the Church Council as well as its Secretary. Floyd had also been a member of the IACOA (Independent Armored Car Operators Association) and the Executive Dinner Club. From a young age, until his late 70's, he loved to Roller Skate and once a sailor, always a sailor, he enjoyed traveling and particularly cruises - where his adventures took him to 40 countries and 30 islands. Floyd is survived by his wife, Lois; their children, Deborah String of East Pennsboro Township, Gregory (Gail) String of Mechanicsburg, Chevonne (Rob) Robison of Yorklyn, DE and SallyJo (Michael) String/Wilson of Middletown and granddaughters, Dr. Gabrielle String (Steven Brindak), Gretchen String and Genna String. He is also survived by a sister, Joyce Mehler of Camp Hill and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, James String and sister, Patricia Bender. Relatives and friends are invited to greet the family on Saturday October 14, 2023 from 10:00 to 11:00 A. M. at the Jesse H. Geigle Funeral Home, Inc. , 2100 Linglestown Road, Harrisburg, followed at 11:00 A. M. by a Masonic Service offered by the Robert Burns Lodge #464 F. & A. M. and his Memorial Service with Rev. Karin E. Pejack, officiating. Military Honors will be rendered by the Dauphin County Veterans Honor Guard. Nancy Lee (Gumpher) Mlynek, 81, of West Hanover Township, entered glory on Monday November 20, 2023 in the comfort of her home. Born July 7, 1942, in Harrisburg, she was the daughter of the late John I. and Doris R. (Hartzell) Gumpher. On August 31, 1963, she was united in marriage with Robert M. Mlynek with whom she has shared a devoted union of 60 years. By nature, Nancy possessed a warm and caring personality. She was everybody's Grandma and was genuinely concerned for the needs of others. Nancy never hesitated to offer a listening ear or a caring heart and her sense of humor put people at ease. She had been a faithful member of River of God Church, Enola, where she cared for children in the Nursery and was active in the Senior Saints. Nancy retired from the Central Dauphin School District after many years. Nancy is survived by her husband, Robert and their children, Robert M. Mlynek, Jr. and his wife, Kelly of York Haven and Dawn M. Bechtel of Harrisburg; three grandchildren, Rebecca Regrut and her husband, Stephen of Hamburg, Joshua Bechtel and his wife, Apryle of Harrisburg and Brittany Bargo and her husband, Kyle of York and a great grandson, Blaze Bechtel. She is also survived by her brother, Irvin L. Gumpher of Highspire. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Rev. Boyd F. Gumpher. Her funeral service will be held on Thursday November 30, 2023 at 11:00 A. M. in the Jesse H. Geigle Funeral Home, Inc. , 2100 Linglestown Road, Harrisburg, with Pastor Tim Halbfoerster, officiating. Interment will follow in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville. Relatives and friends are invited to join the family for her viewings from 6:00 to 8:00 P. Richard E. Botts, formerly of Susquehanna Township, passed away Sunday November 26, 2023 at Truewood by Merrill in Glen Riddle, Delaware County at the age of 90. Born November 14, 1933, in Harrisburg, he was a son of the late Kenneth and Esther (Hoover) Botts. On May 27, 1956, he married Doris H. (Hallstrom) Botts, with whom he shared a devoted union of 50 years prior to her passing away on August 15, 2006. Dick graduated from William Penn High School in 1951. In 1956, he was inducted into the United States Army and upon completion of basic training and advanced training, he was assigned to the Transportation School at Ft. Eustis, VA as an instructor in the Harborcraft Seamanship Program. Dick was honorably discharged in 1958 with the rank of Private First Class. He completed his Associates degree in 1976 in Pre-Engineering at Harrisburg Area Community College and then earned a license as a Professional Engineer (PE) in the Fire Protection and Safety Discipline with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in March 1977. After 35 years in the Insurance industry, Dick retired from Sedgwick of Pennsylvania, Inc. , an international insurance broker, as Senior Vice President and Manager of the Risk Control Services Department. During his tenure with Sedgwick, he had also served as National Director of Property Risk Services, where he led a team of over 100 risk control personnel throughout the United States. Following his retirement, he worked on a part-time basis as the Fire Marshall for Swatara Township. Dick also founded his own consulting company, Fire Safety Consultants, Inc. , that provided safety consulting and sprinkler system design services. Dick pursued his avocation for fire service, initially as a volunteer in the City of Harrisburg and later with the Progress Fire Company. He also served as Treasurer of the Susquehanna Township Fireman's Relief Association. Former State Fire Commissioner Charles Henry appointed Dick to the statewide board charged with the development of the Fire Fighter Certification system. Dick was a member of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) for over 30 years and was a charter member of the Fire Service Section. He was a full Member of the Society of Fire Protection Engineers (SFPE), Pennsylvania Society of Professional Engineers (PSPE), the National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE) and the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE), where he also served on the Board of Directors and participated in the Standards Committee. Dick served on the Statewide Advisory Board of the Pennsylvania Fire and Emergency Services Institute (PFSI). As one of the original organizers and Advisory Committee members, Dick played an integral role in the establishment of the Fire Science Technology program at HACC. He assisted in the development of the curriculum for the program and served as an adjunct faculty member, teaching a class in Risk and Insurance designed for the Fire Science student, for over 15 years. Active in the Boy Scouts of America, he had attained the rank of Eagle Scout in 1953 and was later elected as a Vigil Honor member of the Order of the Arrow. Dick served as a Scoutmaster for 12 years, during which time he was presented the Lamb Award by the Lutheran Church in America for his outstanding service to youth. He was a life member of the Camp Curtain Fire Company, Progress Fire Company and St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Colonial Park. Dick is survived by his daughter, Karen A. (Andrew) Maher of Aston; a son, Thomas A. Botts of West Chester; grandchildren, Amanda (Mark) Kambic and Sean Maher and a great grandson. He is also survived by his brother, James Botts of Lancaster. In addition to his wife, Doris, and parents, he was preceded in death by two later wives, Ruth Sutton Botts and Margaret Botts; a daughter, Sharon Botts and an infant daughter. Relatives and friends are invited to join the family for his viewing on Monday December 4, 2023 from 11:00 A. Richard W. Reidell was received into the arms of his Lord from Carolyn Croxton Hospice House on November 24, 2023 to join his parents, Evelyn (Moul) Reidell and Roy W. Reidell, Jr. ; brothers Robert Reidell and Larry Reidell (Gloria), and sisters Bonnie Lou Clark (Gary) and Catherine Diodato (Richard). He leaves behind to celebrate his life, Patricia (wife), Kristine Linville (daughter), Ronald Linville (son-in-law), and Devon and Dillon Linville (grandsons) and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Richard was born in Harrisburg on January 24, 1944 and graduated from Susquehanna Township High School in 1962. He was a member of Faith Immanuel Presbyterian Church and was an active member and past president of the Susquehanna Township Lions Club. He was a lifetime member of Progress Fire Company and an active volunteer with the Susquehanna Township Ambulance Association. He was employed by Sherwin Williams Company, Harrisburg Copiers and retired from the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved playing golf at Manada and Colonial Country Golf Club for many years. There will be a celebration of his life at Faith Immanuel Presbyterian Church, 1801 Colonial Road, Harrisburg, PA on November 30, 2023 at 11:00 am. officiated by Rev. Dr. Kent Carter. There will be a light luncheon in Shaffer Hall, at the church, after the service. Family visitation will be prior to the service from10:00 am to 11:00 am. Ermina C. Poletz, formerly of Uniontown, passed away Saturday November 18, 2023 at the age of 106. Born August 29, 1917, in Uniontown, she was a daughter of the late Fabrizio Horatio Menni and Philomena Rose (Russo) Menni. Ermina had shared a loving and devoted union with Francis "Frank" Thomas Poletz prior to his passing. Nanny, as she was affectionately known by her immediate and extended family, received the greatest joy from caring for her loved ones and creating a warm and nurturing home. Always giving of herself, she wanted everyone to feel good about themselves and truly loved. She led a life where friends became family and family meant everything. A true woman of purpose, Nanny never believed in taking short cuts and always felt that a healthy dose of love was the key ingredient in everything that she did for others. Nanny was proud of her Italian heritage and shared many of the age-old traditions, like the Feast of the Seven Fishes on Christmas Eve, with the next generations to ensure that her family would continue to embrace their legacy. She had been a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Uniontown. Nanny is survived by her grandson, Mark J. Carr and his wife, Leigh Ann Carr, of Steelton. She is also survived by her great grandchildren, Enzo A. Carr; twins, Dante G. Carr and Gionni G. Carr; Gabriel A. Leach and Hanna Mae Schickel. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Mary Anne Carr Robinson and brother, Eugene "Gene" R. Menni. Nanny will also be embraced in heaven by her son-in-law, William "Jerry" Carr and Karen Crozier, both of whom she loved dearly. Foster Dale Diodato passed away in his Harrisburg home surrounded by his wife and family on November 16th at the age of 76. He was born and raised in Harrisburg and was the oldest son of Archie and Bettie (nee Foster) Diodato. After graduating from CD East High School, Foster earned his bachelor's degree in biology from Elizabethtown College. He was a member of the Kappa Kappa fraternity at HACC. Foster's career spanned 35 years with the Department of Environmental Protection for the state of Pennsylvania. He remained passionate about sustaining environmental resources throughout his life. Outside of work, Foster was a scholar, painter, sports enthusiast, and a master craftsman. His woodworking skills are evident throughout his homes. He was passionate about studying genealogy and helped countless friends learn about their heritage. Foster was a proud father who noted his greatest legacy was his boys' continuation of academic study through college and graduate/medical school. Perhaps his greatest joy was his seven grandchildren. Foster leaves behind his loving wife of 55 years Deanna (nee Parker), his three sons; Dr. Aaron Diodato wife Angela and their son Nathan, Michael Diodato wife Kelli and their children Nicholas, Ben, & Madeline, Mark Diodato wife Karli and their sons Luca, Liam & Marco. He is also survived by his brother Darrell Diodato (Pamela), sisters in law Suzy (Ed), Elizabeth (Mickey) and Arlene as well as his niece Molly (Todd) and nephews Christopher, Andrew and great nephew Alexander. A Celebration of Life Service in Honor of Foster will be held on Monday, November 27th 2023 at Tree of Life Lutheran Church in Harrisburg PA. Mr. Ronnie Harkans Long, age 38, passed away on October 15, 2023, at UPMC Harrisburg Hospital. He was born in Beaumont, TX on November 20, 1984. Ronnie was adopted into a loving family by James and Herron Long. He was raised in a large family, with lots of brothers and sisters and plenty of love to go around. Ronnie enjoyed writing and bike riding. He also enjoyed working out, baking and cake decorating. But, above all, he loved his family and his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Ronnie married the love of his life, Lenise, in 2016. Together, they were raising four children; Kanyla, Zechariah, Jeremiah and Samora. Ronnie had a reputation for being a hard worker and dependable. He had worked his way up to Assistant Manager in the bakery department at Weis Markets. In addition to his wife and children, Ronnie leaves behind his brothers, Charles Frank of Beaumont, TX, Michael (LaToya) Long of Harrisburg, PA, Marcus Long of Dallas, TX, Alfred (Linda Jean) Long of Harrisburg, PA, Harold (Nita) Long of Jacksonville, FL, and Charles Long of Harrisburg, PA, as well as his sisters, Aretha Frank of Beaumont, TX, Helen Scott of Harrisburg, PA, Janice Long of Harrisburg, PA, Debera Long of Harrisburg, PA, and Jeanette (Derrick) Long-Mathis of Harrisburg, PA. He is enjoying a heavenly reunion with his parents, James and Herron Long, as well as his sister, Linda Long. In Loving Memory of Kevin L. Weyant It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Kevin L. Weyant, a beloved husband, father, and friend. Kevin left this world on November 22, 2023, after a valiant battle with cancer. Kevin was born on October 6, 1960, in Altoona, PA, the son of the late Arthur and Leona (Miller) Weyant. From an early age, he exhibited a passion for trains, hunting, and camping. He grew into a compassionate and kind individual, always willing to lend a helping hand and spread warmth with his infectious smile. Kevin's true joy in life was his family. He married the love of his life, Rebecca D. Patchett, on January 21, 1984, and together they built a life filled with love, laughter, and shared adventures. Kevin was a devoted father to Angela M. (Weyant) Basile of Shepherdstown, WV and Allyson R. Weyant of Ridgley, WV, instilling in them the values of kindness, integrity, and the importance of pursuing one's passions. He is survived by his daughters, four grandchildren: Krysten and Trystan Kowalski, Tristan and Hayden Gerry, a great grandson: Colton Kowalski-Fletcher, and his brother Lonnie Weyant (Joanne) of VA. He was preceded in death by his brothers: Jeffrey, Jerry, and Dennis Weyant. Kevin was a Journeyman Electrician with International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local Union 26. He retired after 35 years of service. Outside of his professional and family life, Kevin was an avid hunter, model train enthusiast, and project connoisseur. Whether he was trekking in the woods, putting together model trains and scenes, or working on one of his many projects, Kevin's enthusiasm was contagious, and he formed lasting friendships with those who shared his interests. His presence in our lives brought joy and a sense of camaraderie that will be deeply missed. Kevin’s departure leaves a void that can never be filled, but his memory will forever be engraved in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. As we mourn his passing, let us celebrate the vibrant life he lived and the positive impact he had on all who had the privilege of crossing his path. A memorial service to honor and remember Kevin will be held on December 2nd at 11am at Paxtang Wood's Edge Green Burial, Harrisburg, PA with a reception to follow. May he rest in peace, and may his spirit continue to inspire us all to live our lives with purpose, compassion, and a zest for the things that bring us true joy.Show more
