Coralie George

Coralie George

Age - 88

November 28, 2023

Coralie Grace (Clever) George passed away peacefully on November 24, 2023; she was 88 years old. Born March 22, 1935, to Edward Henry Clever and Lillian Julia Anna (Schroeder) Clever, she was given a French first name which was popular in the US during the 1930's and means "coral". Her middle name, Grace, is of Latin origin and means "goodness" and "generosity", both of which apply to Coralie in equal measure. She grew up on a family farm on Harrison Road in East Lansing, which later became MSU's Spartan Village. She graduated from East Lansing High School in 1953 and would eventually find her true love in Carl George. Together, they raised five children in Laingsburg, MI. Being a mother and having a large family in the country was all she ever wanted. She would often say she always wanted more children, but that was not to be, so she took care of countless other children and hosted many other teens, all of whom she considered part of her family. She was a very active member of her church, was very involved in the community, and often leaned on her faith, family, and friends to get through tough times. Faith, family, friends and music. . . Music was a big part of her life. When she was young, she played the French horn and guitar. As an adult she played the piano and accordion, but mostly she sang. She had a beautiful alto voice and a good ear for harmonization. If she wasn't directing the youth choir at church, she was singing in the adult choir. She was also a founding member of the Laingsburg Community Singers in 1976, a choir that was formed in the run-up to the bicentennial of the US, which was a great source of pride. She had an amazing ability to remember lyrics, and even though her memory faded as the years passed, she could sing the most obscure songs from the 1940's and 1950's, songs that most have never heard before. It was rare to hang up the phone with her, without her singing you a song or two. Perhaps more than anything else, she loved being a grandmother to six wonderful grandchildren, and one great grandchild. Her sleepovers with all six were legendary; games, costumes, corn mazes, cooking, and of course, singing!Coralie was predeceased by her parents, Edward and Lillian Clever, her sister, Gloriana Dawn (Clever) Kerekes, and her devoted husband of 63 years, Carl. She will forever be remembered by her five children; Karen Hackett (Jana Jirak), Carla, Kim, Kevin (Eugenio Sanchez), Chris (Terralynn), six wonderful grandchildren; Sam Holoweiko (Katalina Laganova, fiancee), Simon Holoweiko, Megan George (Aaron Malitz, fiance), Seth Holoweiko, Devinn (Ben) Cronkhite, Collin (Morgan) George, and her beautiful great-granddaughter Nora Grace Malitz. Raising you up on eagle's wings, mom. . . With love,Karen, Carla, Kim, Kevin, and ChrisVisitation and a memorial service will be held at the United Methodist Church in Laingsburg on December 6, 2023 (visitation at 10:00 AM, service at 12:00 PM), followed by burial at the Putnam Cemetery in Sciota Township. Everyone is invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the Laingsburg Area Food Bank, the Laingsburg Community Singers (P. O.
