Florance, known as Flonnie, passed away April 21, 2023 in Portland, ME after recent health issues. She was born in Portland, ME to Ethel Wahl Ashley and John Checkley on March 6, 1930. Married July 29th, 1950 to Linwood H. Pooler, they celebrated 71 years of marriage until his death in January 2022. They enjoyed snowmobiling, camping, panning for gold, and fishing outings with their children and friends. Flonnie was a home maker, gardener, and seamstress for many years until losing her sight to macular degeneration. She was a master at almost any craft- sewing, knitting, crocheting, drawing, cross stitch, and Christmas ornaments of all kinds, but she was best known for her baby quilts. She stitched them by machine but hand quilted them, each one a unique gift for family and friends. She was predeceased by her parents, her brothers, John & Charles Checkley, her sisters, Murial Tate & Evelyn Chadwich & her husband Linwood. Flonnie is survived by her children Linwood C. and his wife Rita, Grace Weste and husband Dana, Thomas and wife Robin. She is survived by grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Heather Weste and Ethan Bloomfield; Robin and Jayson Harrington and son Michael; Robert and Melanie Miller and children Molly, Colby Stratton, and Charles; Jamie Miller and children Rashaun, Ava, and Samuel; Samantha and husband Steven Knox and children Kroy, Arlo, and Maci; and Katrina Pooler. The family would like to thank the Scarborough rescue for numerous visits to assist and/or transport her and Linwood many times in their later years. Visitation will start at 2 p. m. , followed by a celebration of life at 3:30 p. m. , Friday, April 28, 2023 at Hobbs Funeral Home, 671 US-RT1, Scarborough, ME. Burial will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Meals on Wheels or to perform a random act of kindness for someone struggling.
