"Ferrol L. "Faye" Bosma, age 102, passed away Sunday, September 10, 2023. She was born in Muskegon on May 6, 1921 to Walter and Gladys (Barlow) Poulson, and was a life resident of the area. Faye was a longtime member of Calvary Memorial Church, where she taught Sunday School and Bible School. She also volunteered her time with Hackley Hospital and the American Red Cross. Faye's contributions and her love for her family will surely be remembered and cherished by those who knew her. On July 3, 1942 she married Richard Bosma, and he preceded her in death on October 5, 1993 after 51 years of marriage. She spent her later years at Christian Care Assisted Living and Nursing Home where she was greatly loved by all the staff. SURVIVORS include two children, Wallace "Wally" (Glenda) Bosma, and Elyse (Edward) Miller; five grandchildren, Wallace (Barbara) Bosma, Jr. , James Bosma, Wendy Bosma, Eileen Miller, Eric (Shree) Miller; four great grandchildren, Richard Bosma, Danielle Westhouse, Mia Miller and Lynlee Miller. Faye was also preceded in death by her sisters, Doris "Fern" Gerencer, and Lottie Gillish. GRAVESIDE services will be 2 PM Thursday, September 14 at E. Dalton Oakhill Cemetery (Pillon Rd. "Mr. C. Thomas "Tom" Matz, age 84, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, November 29, 2023. He was born in Muskegon on November 2, 1939 to Edward and Mary (Jandris) Matz. Tom was a veteran of the United States National Guard. He worked as a administrative executive and Vice President of Muskegon General Hospital for over 30 years prior to his retirement in 1997. After his retirement, Tom drove the beer cart at Fruitport Golf Course, a "job" he truly loved. On June 23, 1961, Tom married the former M. Louise Martin in Muskegon and they had three children. Tom was a true family man and always put his family first. He loved taking family vacations, even when it meant making sacrifices, to create those lasting memories together. Tom was a lifelong avid outdoorsman, hunter, and fisherman. From an early age and heavily influenced by his Uncle Jim, Tom grew to love shooting sports. He qualified for the Olympic Team, however he turned down the offer because it interfered with hunting season. He enjoyed duck and bird hunting, and as he got older that passion changed to turkey and deer hunting. He also was an avid bow hunter, and enjoyed trips to the Upper Peninsula where he, along with Louise, enjoyed spending the month of October bow hunting. One of the last deer he shot earned him a record trophy with Pope and Young. In their later years, Tom and Louise enjoyed the dear friendships they formed spending over 20 winters in Key Colony Beach, Florida. Tom is survived by his wife of 62 years, Louise; two daughters, Molly (Brian) Kidner and Melissa (Jason) Balavitch; former daughter-in-law, Rhonda (Steve) Shepard; four grandchildren, Olivia Balavitch, Peyton Balavitch, Allison Matz, and Drew Matz; great-granddaughter, Genevieve; brother, Bob (Sandy) Matz; and sister, Bonnie (Chuck) Hunt. He was preceded in death by his son, Andrew Matz; parents; and brother, Paul Matz. "Marilyn Adele Ackerman, age 85, met her Heavenly Father on Wednesday, October 4, 2023, at home. She was born on February 3, 1938, to Edward and Jeanne (Martin) Fredericksen in Muskegon, MI. Marilyn graduated from Muskegon Catholic Central class of 1956. She was a dedicated employee of Ingham Radiology in Lansing, starting her career in 1968. There she worked as a medical transcriber and executive secretary before retiring in 2015. On October 6, 1956, she married the love of her life, Richard Ackerman in Muskegon. Together they cherished nearly 67 years full of love and laughter. While she lived in Muskegon, she was a longtime member of St. Jean Baptiste Catholic Church and was part of the Red Hat Society when in Florida. In her earlier years, she was an avid golfer and bowler. Marilyn was talented in many crafts such as sewing and quilting. She knew her way around the kitchen and enjoyed making homecooked meals for the ones she loved. Above all, she loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She is survived by her two children, Roxe Ann (Stephen) Welch and Randall (Kathleen) Ackerman; seven grandchildren, Madolin (Ryan), Martin (Cara), Michael (Abbey), Ryan (Darcy), Lindsay (Tony), Joshua (Jodi) and Kate (Michael); five great-grandchildren, Quentin, Jack, Lily, Louisa and Vada; five sisters, Joanne Hornbeck, Christine (Ken) Sandy, Anne Harris, Jeanne (Rodney) Siegel and Deborah Winsemius; three brothers, John (Ellen) Fredericksen, Tom (Becky) Fredericksen and Martin (Joan) Fredericksen; and sister-in-law, Mary Fredericksen. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, David Fredericksen; and two brothers-in-law, Wayne Harris and Dan Winsemius. A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, October 18, 2023, at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in the Marian Chapel, 2929 McCracken St. , Norton Shores, MI 49441. A visitation with the family will be held from 10-11:00 AM with a rosary starting at 10:30 AM. "George Henry Berry, age 86, of Norton Shores, Michigan, passed away on August 6, 2023 in the presence of family. George was born October 4, 1936 in Detroit, Michigan to Emory and Elizabeth (Terwin) Berry. George married Bonnie Lee Faketty on June 22, 1963 in Muskegon Heights, Michigan. George was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. George proudly served his country in the United States Army in Germany in 1955 and was honorably discharged in 1957. He earned degrees in English and Social Studies from Western Michigan University, where he also met Bonnie. The couple began their teaching careers in Ypsilanti, Michigan, also receiving master's degrees in Education from Eastern Michigan University. Soon after, they settled within the Fruitport school district, where George taught 8th grade English for 30 years. For much of his career, George was the teachers' union chief negotiator and grievance chair. He also served as an elected member of the board of Muskegon Catholic Central High School, representing Sacred Heart Parish. George deeply enjoyed poetry, writing, storytelling, and discussion. He is survived by his wife, Bonnie, of 60 years; children, Craig Berry \u0026amp; Mary Beth (Beauchamp) of Dallas, Texas and Jeanette (Berry) \u0026amp; Brian Tait of Goodrich, Michigan; grandchildren, Lauren (Berry) \u0026amp; Travis Fielder, Kyle \u0026amp; Carly (Turner) Berry, Megan Levy, Ryan Berry, and Rachel Levy; great-grandchild, Franklin Fielder; nephews and nieces, Robert Wingett, Karen (Wingett) \u0026amp; Brian Avdek, Sandra (Wingett) Davis, Patrick \u0026amp; Michelle (Muskovin) Wingett, and Bradley \u0026amp; Cynthia (Shedd) Wingett.
