David Harris

David Harris

Age - N/A

December 5, 2023

The family of David Neil Harris sadly announce his peaceful passing at Nipissing Serenity Hospice on Thursday November 30, 2023. Dave was the cherished husband of Linda (nee Peplinskie) and loving father to Julie Ann Harris. He is pre-deceased by his parents George Harris and Jean (Balfour) Harris. Dave was a respected local businessman, taking over the family business of Harris Dry Cleaners. Under his ownership, he was able to grow the business expanding to the surrounding areas. He believed in giving back to the community and did so through his years of service with the North Bay Optimist Club. He was part of the fundraising efforts that resulted in the Optimist Park on Wallace Road. He and his longtime friends Bob Ives and Bruce Noakes were influential in bringing back the North Bay Winter Fur Carnival. He devoted many years to working on developing the local Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Society. His contribution and dedication was instrumental in creating the local MS Office. Dave faithfully participated in the annual MS walk for over twenty-five years. In years past, Dave was jokingly referred to as the 'strike out King' during his time pitching for the Optimist Softball team. He was an avid Blue Jays fan and supporter of both the Centennials and Battalion teams, never missing a game until such time his health would not allow. Dave had such a positive attitude on life. Since his diagnosis with MS in 1991 and throughout his illness, he persevered. He had a wonderful sense of humor and enjoyed playing a good practical joke. Both of which he kept up until his final days. He always showed a genuine appreciation for even simple acts of kindness. Starting each day with a positive and sunny disposition; he quite simply loved life. Not a day went by that Dave did not express his love and appreciation for the unwavering support given to him by his wife, Linda. Her love and devotion was inspiring to all who met her. As per Dave's wishes, cremation has taken place through Hillside Funeral Services. A celebration to honor Dave's life will be held Sunday, December 10, 2023, 1-3 p. m. at the ONR Building, 665 Oak St. E. , North Bay. Thank you to the Doctors and nurses of the North Bay Regional Hospital's CCU and Emergency departments. Special thanks to Dr. Tuomi, nurse Brayden and Dave's team of PSWs as well as his ONR 665 family. Bernice Purdon

Bernice Purdon

Age - 91

December 2, 2023

It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Bernice on Wednesday November 29, 2023 at the North Bay Regional Health Centre at the age of 91 years. She was predeceased by her husband Arnold and by her daughter Christine. Loving mother of David (Donna), Terry, Charlene, Danny (Patricia), Bernadette (Brian), Mary (Jean-Pierre), Laurie (Robert), Linda (Richard) and Tammy (Shawn). She will be fondly remembered by many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. Also survived by her siblings Evelyn, Agnes and Joe as well as many nieces and nephews. Also predeceased by her siblings Mary Ellen, Rita, Ethel, Dorothy, & Eileen. The family would like to thank the CCU nurses Daniela, Katie & Stephanie. She was able to live in her home with the wonderful help of Jeannette, Mel, Anna-Lisa, Linda, Sheila, Michelle, Lindsey,Hilary and Sandra. Bernice spent her early years in Powassan until she met the love of her life Arnie and moved to Corbeil with her brood of eight. That number increased to ten. She was now an even busier mother and Arnie became a really busy father. She was an inquisitive woman that seeked knowledge as much as she could. Even as a mother of ten she made the time to join the ranks of the Salvation Army, complete a Veterinarian Assistant course, train as a sterilization tech at Mclaren site and take evening courses for practical nursing and palliative care nursing. She worked for many years at St. Josephs Mother House in nursing and found a rewarding career there until she retired. Her quest to learn was not limited to books and she was not intimidated to pick up a power tool and to build a deck. Always a woman, if she needed to remove brush or small trees she would grab the Mustang and ropes not the tractor (or a man) to do the job. Bernice was a spiritual woman that had a clear sense of what it was to be one of god's creatures. The frail, sick and wounded would always be welcomed and sheltered by her. The last years of her life were spent trying to accomplish the hardest task ever. Live alone. Her fur babies, her ladies that played endless cards and talked her through many tough days made it work. The presence of her children, grandchildren, great children and now great great children meant everything and nothing brought her more pleasure than to hold a new baby in her arms. A mother to the end. Family receiving friends at Hillside Funeral Services, 362 Airport Rd, on Monday December 4th from 1:30 until 3 pm. A celebration of her life will follow at 3 pm at the funeral home. Donations in memory of Bernice to the Lung Association or a charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated by her family.Show more
