Dr. Everett Farrell Miller, 87, of Concordia, Kansas passed away on Thursday, October 5, 2023, at his home. He was born on April 26, 1936, in Bison, Kansas to Milton and Rachel (Beltz) Miller. He graduated from Bison High School and went on to earn a bachelor's degree from Fort Hays State University, a master's degree from The University of Idaho, and a Ph. D. from Kansas State University. Everett married Marlene Eilrich on August 16, 1959, in Ellsworth, Kansas. This union brought three children, Shaun, Taunya, and Paula. He put his musical degrees to work teaching first at Bison and then Great Bend before settling in Concordia in 1964. He taught at Concordia High School until 1968 when he started at Cloud County Community College where he remained until his retirement in 2013. Everett was a proud member of the National Guard and later the American Legion in Concordia. He was a member of the Concordia Lutheran Church. Everett spearheaded the initiative to restore The Brown Grand Theatre and was a faithful member of the board. He served as chairman for many years. He also led the charge in planning and executing the 1995 celebration of the Camp Concordia POW Camp closing. Everett was a caring and hardworking person that was always on the go. He cared for his family and students. He enjoyed collecting cars, including Alpha Romeos. Survived by his wife, Marlene; his children Shaun (Heejung) Miller of Concordia, KS, Taunya (Bak) Miller of Concordia, KS, and Paula Severn of Kearney, MO; grandchildren Ryan Miller, Hunter Severn, Karijanna Miller, Hannah Severn, Haley Severn, and Dahnbi Bak; great grandson, Eldon Miller; and sister Ramona Loucks. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Virgil Miller, and sisters, Darlene Burke, and Elila Newton. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, October 13, 2023, at the Brown Grand Theatre with Pastor Jim Winter officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Concordia, Kansas. Visitation is Thursday October 12, 2023 from 1-8 PM at the Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home, Concordia, Kansas. Jerry Lee Bunch, 63, of Concordia, Kansas died on September 20, 2023 at Salina Regional Hospital after heart difficulties. At Jerry's request, he was generously able to make life changing donations through Midwest Transplant Network. Jerry was born in Beloit, Kansas on March 9, 1960 to Lila Mae (Staley) Bunch and James "Jim" Wesley Bunch Sr. Jerry's father was in the army, which allowed him to grow up in many places including Alaska, Virginia, Oklahoma, Georgia, South Carolina, California, and Germany. He graduated from Downs High School in 1979. He started college at Fort Hays State University in 1980, where he graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Political Science. He was thrilled to find out his eldest granddaughter became an attorney and his second eldest granddaughter a court reporter. Jerry was a man that loved his family deeply and shared about them with anyone who would listen. Jerry was known for his elaborate and descriptive stories of his life, career, and family. He was a lifelong learner and enjoyed history, especially Kansas and Native American history. He was an avid reader and lover of western films, which he enjoyed watching with his grandsons. Jerry was a die-hard Raiders football and Royals baseball fan. One of his favorite things to do was watch his grandsons play sports. He was always their biggest fan. Rhonda and Jerry were married on April 15, 1995 in Concordia, at Chances R, the place they met and instantly fell for each other. They were married for 28 years. Many say that they "saved" each other. Jerry started his career with the Department of Corrections in Norton, Kansas in October 1994 serving there until May of 2002, before transferring to Ellsworth Correctional Facility until his retirement. He served faithfully for 20 years as a "man of his word" and "going by the book. " Then in typical Jerry fashion, he finished his career at Cloud County Corrections, working till the day he passed. Being a husband, father, and grandpa were the greatest joys of his life. Jerry is survived by his wife, of the home; son, Heath Dvorak and wife, MeLissa, of Concordia; daughter, Amanda Matzke and husband, Blake, of Concordia; 8 grandchildren, Kirstyn Malloy (Josh), Kayla Dvorak, Hayden Dvorak, Skylar Plush, JoAnn Plush, Isabelle Plush, Madyx Dvorak, Graeme Matzke; and many extended family and friends. He is preceded in death by his mother, father, eldest brother, Jr. , and infant brother, Stanley; and lifelong friends, Kent and Sue Chesney. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, October 14th, from 12:00 pm - 4:00 pm, at the American Legion, 506 Washington St, Concordia, Kansas. Bonnie George, 75, of Concordia, Kansas, died at Salina Regional Health Center surrounded by her loving family on August 9, 2023. The third of six, she was born in Valejo, California on November 29, 1947 to Henry Eugene and Alaine Maxine (Monroe) Floyd. Her family returned to Kansas following Gene's Navy service. She attended and graduated from Fort Scott High School where she was the High School Concert Mistress and 1st chair violin in the school symphony. She went on to attend Emporia State University on a music scholarship. Bonnie worked a variety of secretarial jobs including the family business, she served as the Uniontown City Clerk, and at Wentz Eye Care in Concordia, Kansas. She also had an embroidery business called Bo Peep Creations. She assisted the Uniontown School District with the Irena Sendler Project, bringing to light the work of a Polish woman responsible for smuggling more than 2500 Jewish Children out of Warsaw during the Holocaust. This included traveling to Poland to meet Irena Sendler and hosting Irena's daughter when she visited Kansas. She was a member of the Athaneum Club, and attended the Baptist Church of Concordia, Kansas. Bonnie could play any instrument with strings, along the piano and organ. She played in the Fort Scott and Pittsburg Symphonies and for weddings, funerals, and at nursing homes. She formed a band called the By George Band in which her children, nieces, and nephews played songs on a flatbed truck in local parades. She loved to crochet and did not enjoy cooking at all, though the things she made were enjoyed by her family. Bonnie took her love of performing and making others smile and attended the Emmet Kelly Clown School. Her clown name was Sugar and she performed and made balloon animals at school carnivals and area businesses. She even took her grandkids along. She loved spending time with her grandkids and spoiling them with "love money. "She was a spitfire, a good and loving mom, and did not know a stranger. She was everybody's Grandma Bonnie and any time spent with Grandma Bonnie was a fun time. Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents, Eugene and Maxine; an infant sister, Janice, and sister Patricia Pool; and great-grandson Keith, Jr. She is survived by her children, Jennifer (Steven) McKee of Frontenac, KS, Tamara George-Friend of Atoka, TN, Jeffrie (JoHanna) George of Garden City, KS, and Jonna Trost of Concordia, KS; 15 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; siblings, Earl (Donna) Floyd, Steve (Terri) Floyd, and Lynette (Mark) Jackson; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other family members. Services will be held on Friday, August 18, 2023 at 2:00 p. m. at the Baptist Church of Concordia. There will be a book signing on August 17, 2023 from 1:00 p. m. to 5:00 p. m. at Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home.
