Everett August Mertens, lovingly known as Evy, was welcomed into the arms of our Heavenly Father on August 30, 2023. Born on July 11, 1973, in Columbia, Missouri, Evy remained a pillar of his community until his passing in the same town. His life was a testament to his faith, intelligence, and loving nature, which he bestowed upon all who were blessed to know him. His enduring love story with his beloved wife, Heather Turley, began on November 4, 1993, when they pledged their lives to each other. In their 30 years together, they created a beautiful home filled with love and laughter and were blessed with a precious daughter, Emmy Mertens. His beloved family included: Everett Mertens (father), the late Mary Farris Anderson (mother), Tonya and Mike Foxworthy (sister and brother-in-law), Michelle Cook (sister), Rocky and Cheryl Moffitt (in-laws), Israel and Melissa Turley (brother-in-law and sister-in-law), and his nieces and nephews. A proud graduate of California High School, Evy's hardworking spirit was evident in his career. He dedicated ten years to Proctor Lumber in California, Missouri, before eventually becoming a highly respected Purchasing Manager at MidCity Lumber in Columbia, MO. His work ethic was unparalleled and admired by all who worked alongside him, and his integrity was beyond reproach. Despite the demands of his career, Evy always made time for his family, and he instilled in his daughter the same values of hard work and service that were so integral to his own life. Evy's faith was the compass that guided his life. He found solace and joy in his favorite Bible verse, John 3:16, from the New Testament. His faith was the cornerstone of his life and marriage. He was a member of Forum Christian Church in Columbia. He was a beacon of light to all who knew him, embodying the teachings of Christ in his everyday actions. In his leisure time, Evy was a man of simple pleasures. He found joy in watching NASCAR races and Patriots football, listening to all kinds of music - especially country music - and he loved to watch movies with his wife and daughter - mostly Marvel movies! His heart was as vast as the open road, and his generosity was as abundant as a country song. He was a charitable man, always willing to lend a helping hand or a listening ear to those in need. His love for his family was as deep as it was unwavering. Above all, Evy was a loving husband and a proud father. His family was his greatest joy, and he cherished every moment he spent with them. His love for his wife, Heather, was a testament to his commitment and devotion. His daughter, Emmy, was the apple of his eye, and he took great pride in her accomplishments. His legacy of love, faith, and kindness will live on in the hearts of his family, his co-workers that were like family, his friends, and all those whose lives were touched by his generosity and compassion. As we say our earthly goodbyes to Evy, we find comfort in the knowledge that he is now at peace in the presence of the Lord. His life was a blessing to all who knew him, and his legacy will forever be a source of strength and inspiration. Today, we celebrate the life of Everett August Mertens, a man of faith, intelligence, and love, who touched our lives in countless ways. His memory will continue to live on and guide us, reminding us of the power of faith, the importance of family, and the joy of everyday moments. Evy's life was a gift to us all and will continue to encourage us to live our lives in service to others and in faith in the Lord. May we all strive to live up to the example set by our dear brother. He is dearly missed. In the words of his favorite Bible verse, "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. " John 3:16 (NTL). Amen. A private family interment will be held at Green Grove Cemetery near Latham, MO. Memorials are suggested to Windmill Ridge Funeral Service - the family will share these funds with charities that were close to Evy's heart.
