Old Bridge, NJ

"After battling countless health challenges for several years, Evelyn Long Silvestri, 78, of Old Bridge, died surrounded by her family on Sunday, September 10, 2023. Born in Staten Island, New York to Evelyn and Walter Long, "Evie" eventually moved to New Jersey with her beloved husband, Luddy, and started a family in the Madison Park section of Old Bridge in 1969, where they dedicated themselves to their three children, Steven, Ken and Jennifer and their community. While she prided herself in her role as a volunteer, including combined decades of commitment to the Raritan Bay Cougars and the Madison Park Little League Ladies Auxiliary, she also valued the connections she made during her employment. After working at the Jean Buyers Outlet, she spent countless hours bowling at Hill Lanes and was a devoted manager at Fashion Bug for nearly two decades. Throughout the years, she proudly hosted countless family gatherings, where the enormous amounts of attendees were only surpassed by the love and laughs that echoed in the home, especially on Thanksgiving. However, her greatest joy and accomplishment was being the doting grandmother to her 8 grandchildren. Upon her retirement, Evelyn reveled in this role and focused all of her efforts on Trevor, Madison, Anthony, Shlomo, Davyd, Yosef, David, Benjy, and Sarah. Her other great joy was spending time with her best friend, Elaine Donohue, on their many adventures together. Whether you knew her as "Nan," "Evie," or "Mrs. S. ", she was one of a kind and maintained her feisty, fighting spirit to the end, with her constant companion, Luddy, by her side. She is survived by her husband, Luddy of Old Bridge, her son, Steven and his wife, Isabel, of High Bridge, her son, Ken and his wife, Kerryann, of Cliffwood Beach, and her daughter Jennifer Shamir and her husband, Amir of Israel. She is predeceased by her brothers James and Eddie Long, as well as her nephews James and Jack Long and sister-in-law, Joyce Long. She is survived by many extended family members, including members of the Silvestri family, whom she held very dear. The Silvestri family would like to thank the staff at Raritan Bay Medical Center-Old Bridge, as well as the teams at Davita Care Centers in Old Bridge and Sayreville for their love and compassion throughout her extended illness. A Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 13, 2023 from 2:00pm to 4:00pm and 7:00pm to 9:00pm with a funeral ceremony beginning at 8:30pm at Waitt Funeral Home, 501 HWY 79, Morganville, NJ 07751. Geraldine Santana

Geraldine Santana

Age - 82

December 9, 2023

"Geraldine Padden Santana, affectionately known to all as Geri, took her final, graceful bow on December 7th, 2023, just four days after her 82nd birthday. Born in the bustling borough of Brooklyn, NY, on December 3rd, 1941, Geri was the kind of soul who lit up every room with her infectious laughter and boundless energy. She spent her last moments in Old Bridge, NJ, surrounded by the love of her family, leaving behind a legacy of joy and a treasure trove of memories that would rival any Black Friday sale. Geri's life was a tapestry woven with the threads of love, humor, and the occasional karaoke rendition of The Beatles' greatest hits. She was the beloved wife of Jorge Santana, with whom she shared a lifetime of love. She raised a family that includes her little angels Georgie and Christina and her surviving children, Deborah Samuels, Dorothy Carlton-Graff, and Christopher Santana and Geralyn Pellecchia, who inherited her wit and charm. Geri's love extended to her cherished son-in-law, Paul Pellecchia, and daughter-in-law, Lenore Santana, who were more like her own children than in-laws. Though the heavens gained an angel, Geri leaves behind a legacy in the form of her grandchildren: Phillip, Eric, George and Anthony, Alyssa, Julian, Alex, Mia, Paul, Christopher, and Lila. Each of them carries a spark of her spirit, from her grand sense of humor to her unparalleled shopping prowess. The littlest jesters in her court, her great-grandchildren Chris, John, RJ, and Xavier, will grow up on stories of their great-grandma's legendary holiday feasts and decorations that could outshine the Vegas Strip. Geri's siblings, Delores, Cookie, and Linda, will miss their sister's larger-than-life presence, her laughter echoing in memories alongside those of her siblings who predeceased her: Rosemarie, Patricia, Hubert, Barbara, Mary, and Gayanne. They're probably up there right now, trying to organize the afterlife's most raucous family reunion. Geri is also survived by her loving nieces, nephews, great and great great nieces and nephews. A proud graduate of Fort Hamilton High School, Geri's nurturing nature led her to a career as a personal care giver with the VNA and Stella Horton, where she spread warmth and kindness like it was her personal mission. She had a gift for making everyone feel cherished, and her generosity knew no bounds. Geri's interests were as eclectic as her sense of style on a shopping spree. Music and dancing were the rhythms of her soul, and she could out-laugh anyone in the room. Her karaoke sessions were nothing short of legendary, with The Beatles' tunes being her go-to. She was the queen of holiday decorating, and her cooking could make even the toughest food critic melt into a puddle of appreciation. Celebrating with friends and family wasn't just an activity for Geri; it was her art form. Describing Geri is easy: loving, funny, and generous don't even scratch the surface. She could turn a mundane moment into a comedy sketch, leaving everyone in stitches. In the spirit of Geri's humor, let's remember her with a quote from the great Phyllis Diller: "I want my children to have all the things I couldn't afford. Then I want to move in with them. " Geri lived this philosophy to the fullest, giving her family the world and then some. So, here's to Geraldine Padden Santana, a woman whose laughter was her signature, whose generosity was her legacy, and whose love was her masterpiece. She's probably up in heaven right now, haggling with the angels for a better halo, all while planning the next holiday bash. Geri, you were one of a kind, and the world is a little less bright without you. But we'll keep the karaoke machine warmed up and the laughter rolling just as you would have wanted. Curtain call, dear Geri, and take your well-deserved bow. "Show more

John Alexoudis

John Alexoudis

Age - 61

November 26, 2023

"It is with immeasurable love, sadness, and just a dash of tears that we announce the dimsissing of John Alexoudis. Now, you might be wondering about the lofty vocabulary and comedic tone here. But to truly understand it, you'll have to buckle up and join us on a whimsical journey through John's exceptionally eclectic life - An adventure just as diverse and engaging as John himself. He sprang into life on the 9th of January, 1962, in Athens, Greece, but found himself grabbing his last ouzo in New Jersey, one cold November day in 2023. When you pack the life rockets of an electrical engineer, professional house renovator, pool boy-extraordinaire, and a self-professed alien enthusiast in one modest box of dynamite, it's bound to descend into an explosive laughter-filled send-off. John's parents, Evangelos and Nepantzia, offer a vibrant palette that painted the charming, Greek-loving, multi-lingual man we loved. Our beloved engineering whizz spent longer than most people could bear to be in school, studying Engineering at Widener University. These unfortunate educational misgivings at least paved the way for an impressive 40-year career split between Fort Monmouth U. S. Army and Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst. To quote Bill Murray, "On vacation. You send postcards to people you don't know. " John truly embodied this philosophy working dutifully for the Puerto Rican Tourism Board. Yes, you heard that right. John Alexoudis: an honorary Puerto Rican, pool boy, and house flipper. He would invite everyone over to his newly renovated homes for outdoor pool parties. While the guests thought it was for merriment, John used the occasion to flaunt his newly installed electrical wirings. Oh, and the honorary Puerto Rican title? Let's just say it's no small achievement for a guy who could out dance any salsa master at a drop of a sombrero. Despite his mounting list of accolades, John still found time to show his three loves: his wife Milagros, his daughter Ariadne, and son Evan. Not to forget, Tyler Lesko, who had the privilege of marrying into this joyously mad family, and the two fur-babies, Yammy and Pecan, who were just as part of the family as anyone else. In a bizarre yet entirely predictable turn of events, John's interests ranged from being an avid fisherman, an absolute car nut, a relatively decent cook, to being a fanatic of everything extra-terrestrial. He was so much more than the Eagles' number one fan or the loudest cheerer at AEK soccer matches - He was a man whose interests were as diverse as an exotic fruit platter. Witty, lovable, and undeniably brilliant, John Alexoudis was the personification of the Greek embodiment of 'kefi' - the joy of living. His infectious laughter and quirky sense of humor brightened the lives of everyone who had the good fortune of knowing him. John Alexoudis' name will go down as a legend - a man who could wire up your house, fix your pool, and then grill you the most excellent souvlaki, all while debating about interstellar politics. We'll be telling and re-telling his tales through many generations, because, how do you forget a character like that? And remember, in the wise words of Whoopi Goldberg, "We're here for a reason. I believe that reason is to throw little torches out to lead people through the dark. " For everyone that knew him, John was that light. Dear John, your time has ended on this plane of existence but you have fueled a universe of memories and laughter. As an alien enthusiast, may you find solace among the stars and new projects in the intergalactic realm. We'll forever miss your unique character, yet laughter shall ever prevail when evoking your name. "Show more
