"Evelyn (Dawson) Anton, 99, of Andover, passed away on Sunday, May 7, 2023, surrounded by her loving family at High Point House in Haverhill. She was born in Lawrence and was the daughter of the late James and the late Emily (Cooling) Dawson. Evelyn graduated from Lawrence High School as salutatorian where she excelled in English. After high school, Evelyn lived in New Jersey and California before returning to the Merrimack Valley. Evelyn was the dedicated wife to her husband of 50 years, John C. Anton, who passed away in 2014. Evelyn and John enjoyed many years of traveling and spending winters in Florida. Evelyn always had a keen eye for detail and during World War II, she volunteered as an inspector for an ammunition factory. During her entire life, Evelyn was a voracious reader with an amazing vocabulary, who seldom lost a game of scrabble. Evelyn's memory was sharp and invaluable in recalling her family's history. Evelyn is survived by her stepson, Charles J. Anton, whom she loved as her own, and his wife Virginia of Westford, MA, two grandchildren, John Anton and his wife Janelle and Christopher Anton, a great-grandchild, Charles "Charlie" Anton, and many nieces and nephews, grand nieces and nephews, and great-grand nieces and nephews. She also leaves her goddaughter, Joanne Housianitis, of Salisbury, MA, who lovingly cared for Evelyn as a daughter. Evelyn was predeceased by brothers, Arthur, Ernie, John, Fred, and Kenneth Dawson, sisters, Elsie Green, Florence Wright, and Mildred Buckley. Evelyn's family would like to thank the entire staff at Stone Hill of Andover for the years of loving and compassionate care they provided for her and a special thank you to Compassus Hospice and to High Point House for their help and kindness during this time. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 13, 2023 at 10:00AM at Sts. Constantine \u0026amp; Helen Church, 71 Chandler Road, Andover, MA, 01810. Burial services will follow in the Lowell Cemetery, 77 Knapp Ave. Lowell, MA, 01852.
