Evangelist Pearline Hook Tobin was born to the late Norman and Elizabeth "Lula" Leysath Hook on September 23, 1933. She quietly surrendered to external rest in peace on Tuesday, April 16, 2019 with family. Evangelist Tobin graduated from Great Branch High School where she met and married the love of her life Malachi Tobin, to this union five loving sons were born. Sister Tobin, her husband and two children moved to Columbus Ohio in May 1953 in pursuit of better opportunities. She spent most of her life being a homemaker and taking care of her family. She still found time to help her husband with the family business "Tobin and Sons" that operated for over 25 years in Ohio. She also was a caregiver to many persons in the Ohio area. Evangelist Tobin joined Divine Kingdom Builder Church, Columbus Ohio in 1974, where she received the gift of the Holy Spirit. She sung on the Senior Choir and served on the Missionary Board in the church. Five years later, God called her to preach the gospel. She then went to school for two years at Christian Academy of Columbus Ohio and completed Bible Training. She was ordained Elder in 1990. Then from November 1995 to June 1996, she was the Pastor of Apostolic Holy Temple, Columbus, Ohio. When Evangelist Tobin relocated back to South Carolina in 2007, she was not shy about making friends and working for the Lord. She worked faithfully in Jones Chapel Baptist Church with the Ladies Auxiliary and The Singles Ministry. She enjoyed her monthly meetings with her club sister in The Limelighter Social Club. Sister Tobin was known for her fashions and hat game but she also made sure her home looked as good as she did. In 1993, the HillTop Committee picked the "Tobin House" for its Beautification Committee Award she was grateful for the award and happy to be contributing to her Beloved Hilltop community where she lived and raised a family for near 50 years. Evangelist Tobin was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Frank Norman Hook; her beloved husband, Malachi Tobin, Sr.; three sons, Michael Gregory, Brian Edward and Oswald Judson. Evangelist Tobin is survived by two sons, Reverend Malachi Norman, Jr. of Columbus, Ohio and Steven Craig (Cynthia) of Los Angeles, California; one sister, Dr. Mildred Hook Rice (Dr. Joseph W., Jr.) of Orangeburg, SC; two sisters in law, Marjorie Tobin Pough and Elder Bernice Zimmerman Hook; twenty one grandchildren, four great grandchildren, one great grandchild, two nieces, nine nephews; to include a host of relatives and friends.
