Elnora Carpenter

Elnora Carpenter

Age - 96

December 5, 2023

On December 1st, 2023, Elnora Pauline Carpenter passed away peacefully with numerous family members at her bedside. Her last few years were challenged by failing health, so we are grieving but also thankful that to be absent from the body is to be at home with the Lord (2 Corinthians 5:8) and we take comfort in knowing she is at peace. Elnora was the proud daughter of Italian immigrant parents and the youngest of 8 siblings. She was strong and independent, at a time when that wasn't in fashion. She worked hard to provide for her family and cooperated with them to create a rich and beautiful life. On her own, Elnora was a force to be reckoned with. As a partner, she was even better. She met her wonderful husband, Gordon, in 1951 and they were married December 22nd, 1952. Their life and love were an example to many. Gordon hit the jackpot with Elnora! Proverbs 31:10-12 says, who can find a wife with a strong character? She is worth far more than jewels. Her husband trusts her with all his heart, and he does not lack anything good. She helps him and never harms him all the days of her life. That was Elnora. They would have celebrated 71 years of marriage in just a few weeks. Elnora excelled at many things, but being an amazing wife was her greatest accomplishment. Together Elnora and Gordon created a family that comes together regularly to spend time in each other's company. Elnora had 3 amazing children, Walter, Michael, and Rebecca and two daughters-in-law. She also loved her 9 grandchildren and their spouses. She was blessed and loved by 20 great-grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren more than words can describe. Elnora's home was always open to others. Hosting her children's friends and teammates was her pleasure. She was proud to be an Air Force wife to Lt. Colonel Gordon Carpenter and loved traveling with him to different bases for 28 years. Her home was a gathering spot for holidays and her door was always open. Her ability to put a meal on the table using ingredients from her husband's garden was unparalleled. Her lasagna was outstanding, and she had dozens of dishes that would draw a crowd of family and friends. She was called the Queen of Spaghetti. She was also known for baking hundreds of Christmas cookies with a large variety that would have put Nabisco to shame. Her family looked forward to this treat every year. Elnora and Gordon made their home in Huntington Beach, California. They loved traveling by camper and camping at KOA campgrounds. Many of her grandchildren would visit their home during summer break, creating wonderful memories. They enjoyed Disney parks, the beach, campfires, and shopping trips. After rich Summers with their grandchildren, they lovingly drove them in their camper across the country to return them to their families. Elnora was beautiful. She loved Merle Norman cosmetics and swore that's why her skin never showed her age. She also loved many people but some of her favorites were Bobby Spencer and Luke and Laura from General Hospital and Victor and Nikki from Young and the Restless. She delighted in watching soap operas in her living room while Gordon spent time in his study. If there was anyone dancing on their way to heaven it was Elnora! She was quite the dancer as a young woman and her family remembers her fondly as an avid square dancer with detailed dresses that matched Gordons clothes - making them a beautiful team. Elnora had a steadfast faith and though later in life her church attendance was limited by her health, she appreciated the ministry of Messiah Lutheran Church. Her visitation will be held Monday, December 11th at 12:00 noon at Messiah Lutheran Church, 11522 Telge Rd. Cypress, Texas 77429. The funeral will be held at 1:00 PM immediately following the visitation. A family-only graveside service will be held after the funeral at Houston National Cemetery. Friends and family are invited to pay their respects at 3:30 PM, at Gordon and Elnora's home, 11619 Pointer Ridge Ln. Cypress, TX 77433. Flowers may be sent to the church or their home. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Elnora's honor to the Alzheimer's Association. To to the family or in memory of Elnora Pauline Carpenter, pleaseShow more
