ESTHER A. (PLANK) MILLER, 77 years, 2 months, and 1 day, of Arcola, IL passed away at 2:20 P. M. on Saturday, September 9, 2023, at her residence. Funeral services will be held at 9:00 A. M. on Wednesday, September 13, 2023, at the Phillip and Leona (Miller) Herschberger residence, 20 N. CR. 630 E. in rural Arcola, IL Bishop Jeffrey Alan Miller will officiate. Burial will be in the Miller Cemetery in rural Arcola, IL. Visitation will be any time after 2:00 P. M. on Monday, September 11, 2023, and any time after 10:00 A. M. on Tuesday, September 12, 2023, all at the Phillip and Leona (Miller) Herschberger residence. The Edwards Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements. Esther was born on July 8, 1946, in Douglas County, IL. She was a daughter of Alvin and Clara (Miller) Plank. She married Danny Miller on November 1, 1966, in Chesterville, IL, they lived in Holy Matrimony for 56 years. Esther is survived by her husband, Danny; six sons and seven daughters, Willis Ray Miller and his wife JoAnn (Miller) of Windsor, MO, Allen Miller and his wife Amanda (Herschberger)-(Deceased)of Humboldt, IL, Howard Miller and his wife Lisa Kay (Miller) of Lovington, IL, William Miller and his wife Rosanna (Miller) of Fredonia, PA, Willard Millerand his wife Rosanna (Chupp) of Tuscola, IL, Danny Miller JR. and his wife Ruth Ann Slabaugh, of Arcola, IL; Clara Mae Miller and her husband Howard Lynn Miller (Deceased) of Sullivan, IL, Katie Ann Miller of Arthur, IL, Lovina Herschberger and her husband Clifford of Fredonia, PA, Leona Herschberger and her husband Phillip of Arcola, IL, Emma Jo Jess and her husband Myron of Topeka, IN, Wilma Yoder and her husband Leroy (deceased) of Arthur, IL, Amanda Gingerich and her husband Lavon of Goshen, IN; 82 grandchildren, 48 great-grandchildren; three brothers and five sisters, Willis Plank (deceased) and his wife Viola (Jess) of Arcola, IL, Raymond Plank (deceased), Floyd Plank and his wife Sarah (Yoder) of Vienna, IL, Verna Miller and her husband Gideon (both deceased), Irene Gingerich and her husband Adlia of Arcola, IL, Mary Bontrager and her husband Irvin of Middlebury, IN, Anna Mae Plank of Arcola, IL and Linda Miller and her husband Ray of Shipshewana, IN. Esther was preceded in death by her parents, Alvin and Clara Plank, two brothers, Willis and Raymond Plank, one sister, Verna and Gideon Miller, two sons-in-law, Howard Lynn Miller and Leroy Yoder, one daughter-in-law, Amanda (Herschberger) Miller, two grandchildren, Lamar Ray Herschberger and Roselyn Herschberger, and one great-grandchild, Lavon Herschberger. Esther was a member of the Old Order Amish Church.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, October 21, 2023, at the Edwards Funeral Home, 221 East Main St. , Arcola, IL. Pastor Tom Butler will officiate. Burial will follow in the Arcola Cemetery. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM on Saturday, October 21, 2023, at the funeral home. Ramie was born on December 4, 1953, in Tuscola, IL. He was the son of Raymond Eugene and Dorothy Jean (Grant) Crist. He is survived by one brother, Konnie Crist and his wife Clara of Oakland, IL, nieces and nephews, Tracie Enlow of Mattoon, IL, Charlie Crist and his wife Erika of Mt. Zion, IL, Michael Crist and his wife Lisa of Humboldt, IL, Robert Crist of Arcola, IL, Tony Crist and his wife Kim of Newman, IL, Rob Crist, and his wife Shannon of Arcola. IL, Teri Pollock of Tuscola, IL and Corey Crist of Salem, IL; as well as good friends, Matt McLane, Chuck Burch, and Pam Whipple. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Stormy Crist and Kennie Crist, nieces, Trena Knauss and Becky Crist, and two nephews, Kyle Crist, and Tim Pollock. Ramie attended Arcola High School and graduated in 1972. Throughout his life, Ramie’s passion for music led him to become a talented musician. He dedicated his time and energy to playing in several bands over the years. Ramie’s musical journey included being a part of the Crist Brothers Last Chance Band, Jim Wilson’s Humboldt Thunder, and Four on the Floor. With his musical talents, Ramie brought joy and entertainment to countless individuals. Beyond his musical pursuits, Ramie had various hobbies and interests. He found great pleasure in playing pool, participating in local tournaments, and even competing in the Busch Pool League. Additionally, Ramie enjoyed testing his luck by playing the lottery. Fishing and hunting were also among his favorite pastimes. Ramie was a good cook, a couple of his specialties was beer can chicken, and beans cooked with bacon and other secret ingredients over an open fire was met with rave reviews from those lucky enough to taste them.Show more

In Loving Memory of Linda Redd, November 4, 1961 – September 26, 2023 Our hearts are heavy as we bid farewell to a cherished daughter, mother, sister, grandmother, and friend, Linda, who peacefully passed away at 2:13 A. M. on Tuesday, September 26, 2023, at the age of 61 after a courageous battle with cancer. She leaves behind a legacy of love, compassion, and a deep appreciation for life’s simple pleasures. A Memorial Service honoring Linda’s life will be held at 2:00 P. M. on Saturday, October 7, 2023, at the Edwards Funeral Home, 221 East Main Street in Arcola, IL. Private burial be held in the Arthur Cemetery, and a Celebration of Linda’s life will be held in Hawaii at a later date. Linda was born in Decatur, IL on November 4, 1961. She is the daughter of Charles Owen and Joyce Maudonna (Connor) Lowder. She dedicated her life to selflessly caring for the tiniest and most valuable patients in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit for over three decades. Her unwavering commitment to the well-being of premature infants touched countless lives and earned her the respect and admiration of colleagues and families alike. Beyond her professional life, Linda was a loving mother to her two children, Dallas, and Lauren, who were her greatest source of joy and pride. Her nurturing spirit extended beyond the hospital walls and into her home, where she provided endless love and support. In her spare time, Linda found solace and happiness in the presence of animals and the tranquility of the beach. Her love for animals led her to rescue and care for numerous four-legged friends over the years, always making her home a haven for furry companions in need. Her heart was also captivated by the beauty of Hawaii, finding peace and serenity in the rhythm of the waves and the feel of sand beneath her feet. Linda will be remembered for her boundless compassion, her unwavering dedication to her profession, and her zest for life. Her legacy lives on through the lives she touched and the love she shared. Though she may no longer be with us in person, the memories of Linda’s kindness and love will forever remain etched in our hearts. Linda’s memory will forever be cherished by her mother, Joyce Lowder, her brother Tim Lowder and his wife Mona, her son, Dallas Redd and his wife Amanda, her daughter, Lauren Redd, her grandchildren, Atlas Winters, Sydney Redd, Shepard Redd and a multitude of friends and colleagues who were touched by her gentle caring spirit. Private family services will be held. Janice was born on November 16, 1952, in Tuscola, IL. She was a daughter of Howard Russell and Viola (Burch) Harris. She married Virgil Dale Sylvester on June 3, 1970, in Arcola, IL at the United methodist Church with Rev. Wesley Goff presiding. Janice is survived by her husband Virgil; two sons, Toby Sylvester of Charleston, IL, and Troy Sylvester and his wife Christine of Tuscola, IL; five grandchildren, Tristian Brown of Champaign, IL, Josie Sylvester of Chicago, IL, and Alexandria, Colton, and Jenessa Sylvester all of Charlston, IL; two great grandchildren, Wesley and Jaelynn Sylvester; one brother, Howard Harris Jr. and his wife Jeanette of Arcola, IL and one sister, Peggy Butler of Hindsboro, IL. Janice had worked at Collegiate Cap and Gown, the snack bar at Rockome Gardens and she Managed the Wareco Gas Station all in Arcola, IL prior to becoming a Licensed Practical Nurse. After becoming an LPN, she worked at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center before accepting a position at the Odd Fellow Rebecca Home in Mattoon, IL, where she worked for several years. Janice enjoyed reading and had an extensive collection of paperback books. She also enjoyed quilting, crocheting, and sewing. She liked to bake cakes, cookies, and delicious treats of all kinds. She took classes to learn how to decorate cakes. She enjoyed making treats for family and friends to enjoy; something special for people she appreciated. She enjoyed caring for her family. Her grandchildren meant the world to her, and she really enjoyed spending time with them, so much so that she came to be known as the "Gaming Grandma"; she liked that too, especially if it meant spending a little more time with her grandchildren.Show more

Rita was born on March 13, 1945 in Melrose Park, IL. She was the daughter of Rudy and Minnie (Kirchmann) Krosel. She married Thomas Jeffrey Saunders on April 12, 1975 in St. Charles, IL. She is survived by her husband Thomas Jeff Saunders of Arcola, IL, six children, Shawn Hoskinson of Aurora, IL, J. R. Hoskinson and his wife Kate of Champaign, IL, Jared Saunders of Columbia, TN, Shannon Saunders of Spring Hill, TN, Amber Krutke and her husband Bill of Plainfield, IN, and Katie Simpson and her husband James of Tuscola, IL, twelve grandchildren, Madeline and Emily Hoskinson, Nate Hoskinson and his wife Kaelyn, Emma Hoskinson, Zach and his wife Brittany, Zeke, Ben, Aaralyn, Bowen, Avalyn, and Oliver Saunders and Declan Krutke, two sisters, Linda Gatlin and her husband Larry of Kaiser, MO and Kathie Thompson and her husband Jimmy of Mattoon, IL, one niece, several nephews and several great nieces and great nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and a still born sister, Roselynn. Family held a special place in Rita's heart, and her love for her children and grandchildren knew no bounds. She poured her energy into nurturing these relationships, always ensuring that they felt valued and cherished. Rita's devotion to her family was evident in the time she spent with them, creating beautiful memories that will forever be treasured. In addition to her love for family and faith, Rita had several hobbies and interests that brought her happiness. In her younger years, she developed a love for drawing and art, of cars and driving and was a talented athlete in sports. She was a life-long (secret) White Sox fan and often liked watching football and college basketball games. She liked to relax by putting together puzzles, especially with family. Rita made a practice of putting other’s needs before her own and was always quick to open up her home to family, friends or anyone who had a need at any time. She enjoyed cooking and baking and was well known for her homemade pizza nights and potica (a family bread recipe). Rita's unwavering faith was a source of strength and comfort throughout her life. She was a dedicated member of the Faith Restoration Fellowship of Arcola, IL, where she found comfort in the community and the teachings that resonated with her deeply. The Edwards Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements. Dorothy was born on November 7, 1931 in Martinsville, VA. She was the daughter of Curtis and Inez (Davis) Williamson. She married John Charles Jones on May 23, 1964 in Riverside, CA. She is survived by her husband, John of Arcola, IL, five children, Wilma Roberts of Arcola, IL, Christina Whipple of Tuscola, IL, Carol Blakley and her husband Jerry of California, Casey Jones and his wife Dawn of Dixon, IL and Carolyn Gallagher and her husband Paul of Iowa, two daughters-in-law, Rosie Jones, and Sondra Jones both of Washington, one brother, Curtis Clay Williamson and his wife Diane of Fayetteville, GA, one sister Barbara Ann, and one brother-in-law, Hoyt McClendon of Florida, many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, four children, Sonny Jones, Randy Jones, Beth Jones, and Gina Sue Jones, one grandson, Jeffrey Neil Whipple, and two sisters, Edith McClendon and Clara McNally, Throughout her life, Dorothy held various jobs that exemplified her strong work ethic. She spent many years working as a waitress at both 3 Bears Restaurant in Rubidoux, CA and Dottie's Cafe on Broadway in Humboldt, IL. Her warm smile and friendly nature made her a beloved member of the community in both places. After leaving the service industry, she found a stable career at Coles Moultrie where she worked for 29 years reading meters until her retirement. Even after retirement, Dorothy continued to contribute to the local community by farming 30 acres west of Humboldt for eight years. Dorothy's true passion lied in spending time with her family. She enjoyed every moment with them and cherished the times spent with her grandchildren. Their laughter and joy brought immense happiness to her life. In addition to her dedication to work and family, Dorothy was an active member of the Midwest Line Dancers of Mattoon, IL. Dancing brought out her lively spirit and allowed her to have fun while staying fit. Being part of this group was one of Dorothy's proudest accomplishments. A celebration to honor Scott’s life will be held following the service at Back Alley Saloon in Arcola, IL. Scott was born on July 18, 1964, in Mattoon, IL. He was the son of Junior and Linda Lou (Beals) Prows. He is survived by his sister, Shelly Swearingen (Andy Wilson) of Mattoon, IL, several good friends, a couple being Dave Jent and his wife Lisa, and Kenny Schrock all of Arthur, IL. He graduated from Arcola High School in 1982 and went on to attend Joliet Jr. College. Scott's career spanned several companies. He worked diligently for Jack Spar at the Humboldt Bin Company and Schrock’s Cabinet Factory in Arthur, IL. Later on, he joined Zexel Corporation in Arcola, IL. He most recently worked at CHI for 16 years. Scott had a vibrant social life. Spending time with his buddies was one of his favorite pastimes. He was an avid Illini sports fan and held season tickets to Illinois Football games. The thrill of cheering on his favorite team from the stands brought him immense happiness. Additionally, he proudly boasted his loyalty to the Chicago Cubs. One of Scott's proudest accomplishments was his prowess on the bowling lanes. A celebration of Kerry’s life will be held on Sunday, September 17, 2023. The festivities will be held at the Arcola Masonic Community Center, 121 South Locust Street in Arcola, IL. A time for friends to visit and catch up will start at 1:00 P. M. A memorial service will begin at 2:00 P. M. with Pastor Virgil Cisney officiating. A reception/party will immediately follow the service. The Edwards Funeral Home is assisting Kerry’s family with arrangements. Kerry was born on August 15, 1957, in Tuscola, IL. He was the son of Richard Dale and Barbara (Johns) Gibson. He married Robin L. Johnson on December 2, 2014, in Newton, IL. He is survived by his wife, Robin Gibson of Wheeler, IL, two sons, Brandon Gibson and his wife Lisa of Mahomet, IL and Shay Gibson and his wife Courtney of Arcola, IL, a step-daughter, Micah Shelley of Two Harbors, CA, three grandchildren, Caden Gibson, and Dale and Emma Gibson, two sisters, Rhonda Mohr and her husband Dick of Arcola, IL, and Teresa Easton and her husband Bill of New Lenox, IL, two nephews, Nathan Mohr of Greeley, CO and Tyler Easton of Ann Arbor, MI, a niece, Andrea Hart and her husband Donovan of Wentzville, MO, and two great-nieces, Lennox and Leighton Hart. He was preceded in death by his parents. Growing up in Arcola, Kerry received his education from Arcola High School and proudly graduated with the class of 1975. He was a Purple Rider through and through, and played football in High School as did his dad, Dale Gibson, who graduated from Arcola High School in 1953, and Kerry’s two sons played football at Arcola High School as well, Brandon who graduated in 2000 and Shay in 2002. Kerry spent most of his professional career at R. R. Donnelley and Sons Co. where he worked as a printer and dedicated more than two decades of his life. Later, Kerry went to work at JER Overhaul in Arcola where he worked for another decade. He was an enthusiastic fan of St. Louis Cardinal Baseball, actively following their wins and losses. Additionally, he was a dedicated supporter of the Chicago Bears. One of Kerry's favorite pastimes was riding his Harley-Davidson, Road King. He also found solace in fishing and frequented various farm ponds. Some of his preferred fishing spots included CIPS Lake near Newton, IL and Sam Parr State Park near Newton, IL. Kerry cherished spending quality time with his children and grandchildren. Family meant the world to him.Show more
