Esperanza Mendez Hidalgo, 91, passed away on Tuesday March 28th at home with her family in Manteca California. She was born on October 7th, 1931, in Sutter Creek California. Esperanza was the was the daughter of Francisco and Cesaria Mendez and sister to James Camacho, Jesus Camacho, Ricardo Mendez, William Mendez, and Francisco Mendez. Her love and devotion to her family was a constant throughout her life. Esperanza is survived by her husband Zaragoza Hidalgo married over seventy-three years, her daughter Martha Hidalgo Harris (Danny Harris), sons Esteban (Maria G. Franco Hidalgo), Gregory (Michele Hidalgo), and Michael (Wendy Hidalgo). And her grandchildren (Amanda Harris, Stephanie Brown, Joseph "Joey" Hidalgo, Laura Bartek, Caroline Noone, Luke Bartek) and great grandchildren (Max Hammer, Elena Hammer, Porter Bartek) and many extended family members and friends. Esperanza grew up in Stockton, California and was an at-home mom, worked seasonally in local canneries, county agriculture extension outreach and education worker, and at the Pearl Seifert Women's Health Clinic. She also lived in the orthern Virginia for many years and worked as a field social worker and medical office staff. Upon her retirement, Esperanza retired to California to Pollack Pines, not yet settled she later moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado for several years and then a final move to Manteca, California, to be near family, great-grandchildren, and friends. A strong believer in life-long learning, Esperanza attended Roosevelt Elementary, San Joaquin Delta College, and the University of the Pacific. She also excelled at various creative activities such quilting, sewing, and gardening just to name a few. Esperanza was a woman of strong faith and was actively involved in her church, where she served as needed, volunteered for various committees, and attended services. Her commitment to her faith was a guiding force in her life, and she passed on her values by the way she lived her life and treated everyone with dignity and respect. Esperanza was a strong role model for many women of her generation. She was a person of action not just talk and lead by example without fear or trepidation. Esperanza will be lovingly missed by her husband, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, as well as her comrades, nieces, nephews, and friends. Her kind heart, gentle spirit, and her unwavering love of family will live on through us and in the memories of those who knew her. (Memorial services are pending)
