Eslie Sawyers, age 85, of Norwood, Ohio, passed away on Saturday, September 9, 2023, at Hospice of Cincinnati. Born in Sawyers, Kentucky, she was a daughter of the late James "Jim" Tucker and Orpha Wilson Tucker. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dulano "Hoss" Sawyers in 2019, and by her siblings, Luther Tucker, Christine Brantley, Herman Tucker, Tommy Tucker, Joe Tucker, and Amos Tucker. She is survived by her siblings, Maxine West and husband Herschel of Indianapolis, IN, Irene Sowder of Corbin, and Oscar Tucker and wife Sherryll of Melbourne, KY. Eslie is also survived by many nieces, nephews, family, and friends. Visitation will be from 6-8pm on Wednesday, September 13, 2023, at the Vankirk-Grisell Funeral Home, 607 Master Street, Corbin, KY. Her funeral service will be held at 12noon on Thursday September 14th at the Vankirk-Grisell Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Locust Grove Cemetery in Keavy, Kentucky. Mrs. Ruth Elinor (Umstot) Lewis, 71, of Corbin, Kentucky passed away on December 3, 2023 at her home surrounded by loved ones. Ruth, daughter of the late William Gilmore Umstot and Elinor May Umstot, was born January 30, 1952 in Cumberland, Maryland. She was raised alongside her sisters, Nancy Barry (the late Robert C. , Jr. ) and Becki Vasse (Alan). She is a 1970 graduate of Fort Hill High School. Upon graduation, she attended nursing school at Alleghany Community College where she earned her RN degree in 1972. She touched many in her career, from Memorial Hospital in Cumberland, MD, Children's Medical Group in Westminster, MD, Dialysis Clinic, Inc. in Corbin, KY, Knox County Elementary in Barbourville, KY and South Laurel High School in London, KY. Ruth was very active with the International Order of Rainbow for Girls organization throughout her youth and served as Grand Worthy Advisor of Maryland during the 1971-1972 session and served as installing officer at Supreme Assembly in 2012. She was also a member of Eastern Star. She was passionate about the organization and cherished several life-long friendships that originated from the Cumberland Chapter and Maryland Rainbow. She was married to her first love, Jack Michael "Mike" Lewis, on July 15, 1972. Their union was blessed with two children. She is survived by her husband, two children, Christopher Lewis (Amy) and Sara Harris (Mike), 5 grandchildren (Sydney & Jaxon Lewis, Carly, Cooper & Crosby Harris) and many sisters and brothers - in - law, nieces and nephews, as well as great nieces and nephews. Ruth's life will be cherished by all who knew her. She had an infectious smile, lovable personality and was always willing to lend a hand. Her family was everything to her; she adored her grandchildren and made sure everyone knew it. Visitation will be held from 10-12pm on Tuesday, December 12, 2023, at First Christian Church, 100 South Kentucky Avenue, where her memorial service will follow at 12pm with Rev. Samuel Ray Turner, age 75, of Corbin, Kentucky, passed away on Tuesday November 28, 2023, at his residence. Samuel was born in Hazard, Kentucky on February 24, 1948, to the late James Turner and Laura Turner Statzer. He grew up with his grandparents the late James and Elizabeth Turner. After graduating Hazard High School, he went on to join the US Navy where he served in Vietnam. After leaving the Navy, Samuel went on to work several different positions that helped to lead him to his final job with the Office of Surface Mining. Samuel was a force of nature, determined to provide for his family and to give them the life he felt they deserved. His family meant more to him than anything else in the world, something he often mentioned. Family time was important to Samuel. He was also passionate outdoorsman who loved to fish and golf. If he wasn't spending time with his family, he was out catching fish or hitting golf balls until it was dark. Anyone who knew Samuel knew that he was the most loving father, grandfather, and spouse a family could ever hope for or ask to receive. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Mildred Turner, two daughters, Debbie Fitzpatrick (Jason) of Boerne, TX, and Mary Parks (Dane) of Georgetown, KY, eight grandchildren, Brooke (Dylan), Amanda (Patrick), Zachary, Austin, Jacob, Colin, Lizzy, and Katie Grace, three great grandchildren, Hayden, Kyson, and Neveah, sisters, Delores Ann Mullins of Littcarr, Carol Statzer of Wise, VA, and Brenda Toohey of Wise, VA. Visitation will be from 12-2pm on Sunday December 3, 2023, at the Vankiri-Grisell Funeral Home, 607 Master Street, Corbin, KY, where his funeral service will be held at 2pm with Rev. Patricia Elaine Neeley, age 61, of Corbin, KY, passed away on Sunday, November 26, 2023, at Norton Hospital in Louisville, KY. Born in Oneida, KY, she was a daughter to the late Jerry Neeley and Mildred Lee Smith. Patricia lived with great compassion, kindness, and selfless love for others. She never met a stranger or turned away from someone in need. Patricia loved caring for children most of all and her family extended far beyond her own home. She was a second mother, or grandmother to many and she cherished that role tremendously. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Tonya Reynolds, and a sister, Angie Phillips. She is survived by three children, John Lucas Neeley (Elizabeth), Rikki Danielle Neeley, and Robert Zachary Chad Young (Meagan), grandchildren, Allison Neeley, Terri Richardson, Grace Young, Olivia Young, Scott Allen, Felisha Harris (Jon), Billie Renea Reynolds, Everly Estep, and Emory Estep, partner, Robert Trabish, sisters, Tina Green, Rita Abner, Wyndy Mullanix (Jamie), and Theresa Tirey (Billy), brothers, James Smith, Troy Smith (Cindy), and Tony Smith (Julie), and by many special nieces and nephews.
