Corona Del Mar, CA

Eric Neil Piper, 89, reached the finish line on Earth peacefully surrounded by family on September 23, 2023. He had been a resident of Coronal del Mar for 53 years. Born on May 11, 1934, Eric was the only child of Eric Cyril Piper and Queenie Barbara Piper (Hallpike) of Brighton, England. Eric's spirit of grit and perseverance showed throughout his life. He often recalled his journey to America from England during World War 2. He was sent to live with his grandmother, Olive in the countryside away from Southhampton. The family survived German air raids, and his father, a mechanic for British Airways, brought Queenie and Eric to Baltimore in 1944. After a short time, Eric Sr. moved the family to Montreal, Canada, where Eric Neil learned French, earned the rank of King Scout with a red cord in the Boy Scouts, and developed a love for ice hockey. He moved to New York and graduated from Newtown High School in Elmhurst, Queens in 1952. This would be the year that he met his future wife of 67 years, Beryl "Berry" Wellersdieck, while lifeguarding at Jones Beach on Long Island, New York, and when he began his college career. He received a BA in Business Administration from Adelphi University where he swam and played lacrosse. He was inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame for swimming. Upon graduation, Eric and Berry were married in Berry's hometown of Rockville Centre, New York in 1956. Eric enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1956 and transitioned to become a part of the Marine Corps Reserve in 1960. This was when he began his rewarding career of selling tin cans at Continental Can in New York City. Eric and Berry had their first son, Eric Cyril that year. Jonathan came along a couple of years later, and Eric Sr. earned his MBA from Hofstra in 1964 with two small children. His career took the family from New York to Toledo, Ohio where Jennifer was born, and then to Corona del Mar in 1970 where they settled into a wonderful community on Blue Key. He continued selling packaging and remained in the Marine Corps Reserves, retiring with the rank of Bird Colonel in 1987. Again, Eric's love of competition, high energy, and grit led him to join the running craze of the seventies. There are many fond memories of the family supporting him with his athletic endeavors whether it was running London to Brighton, the Boston Marathon, or competing in numerous triathlons including the Kona Ironman multiple times. Throughout his countless hours of training, he was supported by an amazing network of friends. Together they established a scholarship in his name at UCI for athletes. Eric was unstoppable, thanks to a selfless organ donor, he received a heart transplant in 2008 at the age of 74. His friends gathered around him to get the best medical care possible. In 2010, with a new heart, not only did his political views broaden, he made the decision to retire from the packaging industry to have more time to do the things he loved with Berry- daily walks at Crystal Cove, attending church, delivering Meals on Wheels, taking short trips up the coast, visiting grandchildren, shopping, volunteering to read in elementary classrooms and dining at their favorite restaurants. Eric's strong faith in God, generosity, and positive attitude were key to being a loving husband, a devoted father, a loyal friend, and a strong community member. From the day Eric and Berry were married, they embarked on their journey to serve God and help others. He is survived by his loving wife, Berry, his son Eric (Rika), son Jonathan (Heather), and daughter Jennifer (Jose), grandchildren Logan, Hadley, Natalie, Neil, Piper, and Eliza, cousins, nieces, and many dear friends. Eric, a friend to many, will be deeply missed and forever remembered. The family would like to thank Hoag Hospice and the caregivers at Broadway Manor for their kind and compassionate care. Memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www. pacificviewcalifornia. com for the Piper family. The family requests that those who wish to express sympathy consider making a donation to their favorite charity in Eric Piper's name. A celebration of Eric's life will be held at a later date.

Peter Owen Shea Dies at 88 President of J. F. Shea Construction, Inc. , Vice President of J. F. Shea Co. , Inc. , and a Leader in Heavy Construction, Homebuilding, and Commercial Real Estate On Monday, October 23, Peter Owen Shea lost a fierce and courageous fight against Parkinson's disease. He passed peacefully with his wife and children surrounding his bedside in Newport Beach, CA. During his 88 years, Peter lived his days with kindness, simplicity, competitiveness, and humor. Born on May 29, 1935 in Los Angeles, Peter was the fourth of Margaret and Edmund Shea's five children. In 1953 Peter graduated from Loyola High School of Los Angeles, which he considered "the greatest education that he could have ever received. " It was during those early years that Peter cultivated his competitive golf game which grew into a lifelong passion that he pursued well into his 80s. He had the great fortune to play almost every major course in the United States and many in other parts of the world. He particularly enjoyed organizing golf trips for his buddies and family to Ireland and Scotland. Peter became highly accomplished, including making the cut at the Bing Crosby/AT&T tournament in which he competed many times, and shooting his age on his 70th birthday. Peter maintained close, cherished friendships throughout his life. In 1957 Peter graduated with a business degree from the University of California, Berkeley where he led their golf team and played epic pranks with his Psi Upsilon fraternity brothers. In 1960 he earned a second degree in Civil Engineering from USC's Viterbi School of Engineering. Peter met the love of his life, Carolyn Louise Hand, at the 1963 Bachelors Ball in San Francisco. They were married on September 19, 1964 at San Francisco's St. Cecilia Church. Peter's joy expanded exponentially when he became a father to the couple's three children, Catherine, Peter Jr. , and Sally. Their partnership of nearly 60 years was grounded on a foundation of Christian faith, respect, and mutual love and devotion. The couple spent the first three years of their marriage in Farmington, New Mexico where they made some of their closest lifelong friends and best memories. They spent most of their married life in Newport Beach, where you could find Peter playing tennis or bridge, deep sea fishing, body whomping, or putting on their bayfront green. While Peter was a man of few words, he enjoyed connecting with people and deeply valued gathering with family and his loyal community of golfing, bridge-playing, or neighborhood friends. From early in his career, Peter was most comfortable in khaki pants, a blue collared button down, and boots muddy from a J. F. Shea Co. heavy construction or Shea Homes building site. The J. F. Shea Co. , Inc. , renowned for its work on the Golden Gate Bridge, Hoover Dam, and Interstate Highway System, has been a leader in the heavy construction industry in the United States for over a century. A relentlessly hard worker, Peter grew up around the family business's construction sites, spending his childhood, adolescent, and college summers on dam and tunnel projects in the Western United States and working as 'chucktender' and miner on several tunnel projects. In 1961 he joined his cousin John Shea and brother Edmund Jr. as co-owner of the newly dissolved and reincorporated J. F. Shea Co. , serving as the company's Vice President. He later served as President of its heavy construction subsidiary, J. F. Shea Construction. Peter led every Shea heavy construction project since 1960, and he left his mark on the industry through the innovations and improvements that the company achieved under his leadership. Alongside John and Edmund, Peter helped expand the Shea organization to include not only heavy construction but one of the nation's largest privately held home building and real estate development companies, Shea Homes and Shea Properties. Peter served on various construction industry and community organizations including as Director of AGC of California, Director of the Beavers, Trustee for the University of California Berkeley Foundation, and Member of the University of California Berkeley Business School Advisory Board. He also served on the Board of Directors of the University of California, Irvine Business School. He is the recipient of the prestigious Beavers Award and the Moles Award for Management. Peter was committed to his Catholic faith and valued supporting their parochial schools, particularly Jesuit schools, and friends who found themselves in hard circumstances. Except in competition, Peter never took himself too seriously. He was utterly devoted to his beloved friends and family. He lives on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. Peter Owen Shea is survived by his wife, Carolyn H. Shea; children, Catherine N. (nee Shea) Johnson, Peter O. Shea, Jr. , Sarah H. Shea, son-in-law, Charles M. Johnson Jr. , daughter-in-law, Deborah D. Ramon "Monie" Rossi Lopez - dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and friend - passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 21, 2023, surrounded by his wife and children. Ramon was born the youngest of six children to Katherine and Louis Lopez on Mare Island in Vallejo, CA on August 14, 1950. He was predeceased by siblings Louis, Leonard, Marie, and Kathleen, and is survived by brother Vincent. Ramon was blessed with a large and loving family, which he treasured more than anything. His family was his proudest accomplishment, among a long list of achievements. He was known as 'Poppop' to his beloved grandchildren whom he so adored. He was so pleased by this that he even used it on his license plate, 'DAPOPOP'. He is survived by his devoted wife, Jamie; his adoring children, Jimmie, Matthew, Scott, and Katherine; his cherished grandchildren, JT, Olivia, Sydney, Mateo, and Marco; his loving daughters-in-law, Brandi and Amorina; his loving son-in-law, James; and his loyal dog, Buster. From a modest upbringing, Ramon worked tirelessly to provide his family with all they could ever have hoped to receive. Ramon attended grammar and high school at Saint Vincent's in Vallejo, CA, and pursued a higher education at Loyola University and Loyola Law School in Los Angeles, CA. He was a multi-sport athlete, excelling in baseball, football, and rugby. Ramon met his wife, Jamie, in 1970 while attending Loyola University. They were married on May 26, 1973, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Newport Beach, CA, where they settled and started their family. After obtaining his license to practice law, Ramon established a successful law firm, gaining national recognition for his tenacity, integrity, and skill as a litigator. He successfully litigated cases against major players in the pharmaceutical and medical device industries. His name garnered respect and recognition from opponents and gave hope to those in need of a man to fight on their behalf. Ramon loved sports, both as an athlete growing up and as a fan who attended many games played by his favorite San Francisco teams: the Giants, 49ers, and Warriors. But more than this, he loved watching his children and grandchildren play sports, making sure to never allow anything he had going on in his life to prevent him from attending every game that he possibly could. He was also an avid boating enthusiast, taking his family on numerous boating trips, from Lake Powell to the San Juan Islands. When he was not working or attending sports games, he could usually be found in his garden tending to his roses while listening to Motown. However, apart from his loving wife and family, his primary passion was his career as a trial lawyer. It is a rare circumstance for a person to do for a living something that they so enjoy, but Ramon was able to accomplish that feat. Ramon's funeral service will be held at 11:00 a. m. on November 18, 2023, at Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Newport Beach, CA, which is a location that holds a great deal of sentimental significance for Ramon and his family. Even in his final days, Ramon maintained a grateful and spiritual outlook, telling the priest who visited him in the hospital, "The good Lord blessed me with a wonderful life. " He was a great man with a natural and fervent commitment to integrity, fairness, and family. He will be deeply missed by many.Show more

Nancy Wynne

Nancy Wynne

Age - 85

October 13, 2023

Nancy Wynne was called home by the Lord on October 4, 2023. Nancy was born on October 7, 1937 to Martin Zinsmeyer and his wife Norma Carlquest, in Los Angeles, California. She grew up in Arcadia and attended the Westlake School for Girls and the University of Southern California. Nancy began her career in banking but soon followed her heart and began singing professionally. However, her belief in the Lord and an abiding desire to promote the arts and other good causes led her to pursue a lifetime of philanthropic activity. In 1993 she became a Charter Member of the Orange County Museum of Art Visionaries and remained a life member. She joined the Women of Chapman and generously supported the University. Nancy spent a lifetime supporting organizations and medical centers that addressed the needs of at risk and medically challenged children. Nancy loved all creatures great and small. She rescued and nourished turtles, crows and ducks. She took in a stray cat (Angela). She owned race horses and loved to spend the day at the races. But most of all she loved her poodles - Punch, Gigi, JoJo, Webster, Daphne Anne and the current Mr. Chips. Poodle joy was a staple of her life. The other love of Nancy's life was her daughter, Hilary. From crew to flying airplanes to being an Oxford Ph. D. where she conducts research and teaches graduate students, Hilary was a steady source of pride to her mother. The center of Nancy's life was her husband Donald, who she met while visiting Boston in 1986. Over the course of their thirty-four year marriage they belonged to Big Canyon Country Club where they enjoyed a uniquely close circle of friends. Nancy was also blessed to long time wonderful neighbors Cal and Sherry Mead and Janet and Barry Schreiar. Nancy was a woman who loved life and lived it well. She was a woman of strong faith, who believed in personal responsibility and respect for others. She approached her death with grace, dignity and humility. Throughout the long hospice year, suffering through the end stages of congestive heart failure, she never, not once, complained. Nancy will always be remembered by those who knew and loved her for her welcoming smile, quick wit and zest for life. She was an honest and direct in her opinions and one always knew where one stood with Nancy - but that was her charm. The angels must have figured this out by now. Though we have lost a treasure our lives are forever enriched by her memory and her generosity. Besides her husband and daughter Nancy leaves behind her sister Linda Zinsmeyer and brother John Zinsmeyer, her in-laws Robert and Marie Wynne of Boston, MA. as well as multiple cousins, nieces and nephews.
