Eric Carl Jacobson, Sr. of Colchester, passed away on September 8, 2023, due to complications of a rare muscular disorder known as Inclusion Body Myositis, which he battled courageously for 18 years. He was 78 years old. Eric was born on January 30, 1945, in Worcester, MA, the son of the late Carl and Bernice (Hotchkiss) Jacobson. Eric grew up in Thompson, attended high school at Tourtellotte Memorial High School and then went on to earn a BA from Central CT State College. He joined the U. S. Navy and served for four years during the Vietnam era. He married his beloved wife, Barbara Kolp in the Fort Myer Military Chapel in Arlington, VA on March 14, 1970. After serving active duty, they moved to Colchester in 1972, settling in, making their home and raising their family. Eric went to work for the Travelers Insurance Company as a corporate tax accountant, retiring after more than a 40-year successful career there. The couple embarked on a marriage filled with love, devotion, and adventure for over 53 years. Eric became an active member of the Colchester community. He was involved with his sons and many of the youth in Colchester, serving on the Youth Services Bureau, helping with Recreation Little League Baseball and Midget Football, and Boy Scouts as well. Eric loved music and he played the guitar and banjo. He was an avid reader and always had a book going. He enjoyed watching the Red Sox and Patriots play. He was a long-time member, past president, and past treasurer of the former Colchester Farmers Club. Most notably, he was an active and devoted member of the Colchester Lions Club. Eric Joined the Lions in 1977, working diligently, he earned the distinguished Melvin Jones Fellow award in 1989. He was the Lions 23C District Governor from 1994 - 1995 and he also was the recipient of the Lions International Leadership Medal. He was a true and loyal man of service. His accomplishments, leadership and service to others will not soon be forgotten. His passing will be mourned by all whose lives he touched, especially his loving wife, Barbara, his children, Eric Jacobson, Jr. and partner Verna and Paul Jacobson, of Colchester; his grandchildren, Ashley Herbert and husband Craig of Levant, ME, Alicia Jacobson of Denver, CO; great grandchildren, Annabelle, Owen and Logan; a sister, Constance Carpenter of Thompson; a brother, Edward of Jamaica Plain, MA; and a host of extended family members and friends. In addition to his parents, Eric was predeceased by a brother, Lewis Jacobson and a sister, Kristin Miller. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, September 18th from 1 - 3 PM at the Aurora-McCarthy Funeral Home, 167 Old Hartford Rd. , Colchester, with military honors at 3 PM. A reception will follow at St. Joseph's Polish Society in Colchester. Burial will be held privately at a later date. Wendy Lee Krayeski, 58, of Amston, CT, passed peacefully away on the evening of Tuesday, December 5, 2023 after a long illness. Born October 24, 1965, in Waterbury, CT; she was a daughter of the late Donald J. Krayeski, and Donna Lyles and her long time parter Donna Nolan. Wendy was a 1988 graduate of UCONN participating in track and field through high school and college. She later went on to obtain her nursing degree from Three Rivers Community College with magnum cum laude honors in 2004. In 2003 she married her wife, Tammy Signor, they remarried again in 2015 to celebrate and honor the newly passed marriage equality laws that now includes all 50 states. Wendy will always be remembered as an empathetic soul who held a deep passion for people and animals. As a nurse she helped countless people in their time of need including informing nursing students about the dangers of drug diversion by sharing her own story. She is survived by her loving wife of 20 years, Tammy Signor, siblings Cindy Colagrossi, Michael Krayeski and wife Karen, TJ Lyles and wife Vicki, and several nieces and nephews. Jean Hall passed away on November 15, 2023, at Backus Hospital in Norwich, CT. Jean was born August 6, 1947, in Belfast, Northern Ireland as the middle of five children to James Crowe, Sr. and Elizabeth Crowe. Jean arrived in America after meeting her husband, Charles, while he was abroad in Northern Ireland visiting his relatives. In 1971 after a brief courtship, Charles and Jean married in Northern Ireland in the presence of Jean's family and friends and upon their return to Connecticut they celebrated the union with Charles. As a Navy spouse, Jean relocated several times early in their marriage to Portsmouth, VA, West Ruislip, UK, and several places in Connecticut, finally settling in Salem. After Jean retired, she helped mind after her two granddaughters becoming a pivotal part of their upbringing. Jean was a longstanding member of the Loyal Orange Ladies Institution and the Supreme Grand Lodge of the USA. Jean is survived by her husband, Charles Hall, her daughter Cindy Hall, her partner Michael Ferrara, and granddaughters Gabrielle & Shea Ferrara of Mystic, CT; her son Eric Hall & partner Erika June, of Niantic, CT; her sisters Betty Acheson, Margaret Allen, Andrea Heaney, their families and extended family members in Northern Ireland and Manchester, UK. Elizabeth (Majcher) Rodrigue-Desnoyers, 65, of Colchester, passed into the loving arms of our Lord on Monday, Nov. 27, at home surrounded by family, on the same date her father passed in 2009. Born in Norwich on June 12, 1958, she was the daughter of the late Chester P. and Frances D. (Marcinkiewicz) Majcher. Elizabeth graduated from Norwich Free Academy in 1976. She went on to pursue an Associate of Science in Surgical Technology from Manchester Community College, graduating in 1979, after she started working at Lawrence and Memorial Hospital in New London in 1977 in the operating room. Thereafter, she obtained her Associate of Science in Nursing from Mohegan Community College in 1982, while also getting married to Leo T. Rodrigue Jr. on October 17, 1980. Lastly, she obtained her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Central Connecticut State University in 2005. Elizabeth continued to work as a nurse at Lawrence and Memorial Hospital while having her 3 children Leo T. Rodrigue III, Michael M. Rodrigue (spouse Ida), and Victoria A. Rodrigue. Elizabeth was predeceased by her first husband Leo on August 17, 1993. Elizabeth eventually met her second husband Lawrence J. Desnoyers Jr. , whom she married on November 20, 1999. Through her second marriage Elizabeth is also survived by her 3 stepchildren Jeffrey M. Desnoyers (spouse Ed), Jennifer L. Sklodosky (spouse Chad), Ashley E. Desnoyers, and 2 grandchildren Roselyn and Trenton Sklodosky. She is also survived by her brother Richard J. Majcher (spouse Barbara), her sister Jeanne Lathrop, several nephews, and a niece. She was predeceased by a sister Catherine E. Majcher, and a brother-in-law Raymond Lathrop. "Betty" always believed in giving back to the community. While her children were in grammar school she volunteered in their classroom and taught religious instruction. She also was the PTO treasurer for 5 years while her children attended Colchester Intermediate School. In later years she was the treasurer for 8 years of her local AORN chapter. Her greatest volunteer work was attending a missionary trip to Haiti, where she helped perform surgeries. Elizabeth touched every life that was fortunate enough to cross her path and will live on in the hearts of many. Nancy Ann Dennehy, 73, of Colchester, passed away on the early morning of Tuesday, November 14, 2023, at Backus Hospital in Norwich, CT. Born June 24, 1950, at Middlesex Hospital in Middletown, CT; she was a daughter of the late Robert and Viola (Valli) Rutty. Nancy married her husband, Robert Dennehy in 1970; the couple settled down in Colchester where they raised their sons. She obtained her nursing degree from St. Francis School of Nursing in Hartford in 1971. She then went on to work as a nurse at the same hospital she was born at, Middlesex Hospital, for over 43 years until her retirement in 2016. During her Nursing career she furthered her education ultimately obtaining her master's degree in health care management. In her spare time, she loved to curl up with a good book and was a fan of musicals. Nancy was also an avid fan of the Girls UCONN Basketball Team and rarely missed a home game. She is survived by her husband Robert Dennehy; her sons Scott and his wife Tina Dennehy, and Ryan Dennehy; grandchildren Kaitlyn, JJ and Brayden Dennehy; sisters Joane Colburn and Louise and husband David Joyce; brother-in-law Brian and wife Jann Dennehy; Nieces Amber, Shannon, Katie and Kristen; cats Gizmo and Tinkerbell; and numerous other extended family and friends. Maralyn Ruschmann Porter, 96, passed away peacefully at her home in Gilead on October 8, 2023 She was the beloved wife of 65 years to the late Wilbur Strong Porter Born October 4, 1927, in Willimantic, she was a daughter of the late Herman and Florence (Sweetland) Ruschmann Upon graduating from Windham High School in 1945, she was employed by Aetna in the typing pool where she was recognized for speed and accuracy Maralyn later held several positions in the Hebron and Regional School District Eight school systems, retiring from RHAM High School Maralyn's last and most enjoyable job was working at the Douglas Library where she was able to meet many new families and reconnect with old friends In the early 1970's, Maralyn and her brother Mel owned the What'z - It Shop, antiques and collectibles, in Willimantic She enjoyed collecting antiques, rug braiding, baking, UConn basketball, and was an avid Red Sox fan She and Wilbur traveled extensively in the USA and Europe especially after Wilbur's retirement from Porter Farm Inc An active member of her community, Maralyn was a life member of The Hebron Historical Society and the Douglas Library Association She was the secretary of Gilead Cemetery Association for over 40 years, served on the Commission on Aging for many years and was a member of Gilead Congregational Church for over 70 years Additionally, she was active in the CT Farm Bureau, Gilead Grange, and supported many other community efforts through the years The coffee pot was always ready and many visits were enjoyed with friends over a good cup of perked coffee (no instant, decaf or drip for her)!
