Lenora Schneider

Lenora Schneider

Age - 85

December 5, 2023

On November 29, 2023 Lenora Sue Schneider gained her wings and went to shop with the angels in Heaven. She was 85 years old. Born in Fair Oaks, Arkansas on September 20, 1938 to Howard and Hazel Dixon, Lenora would often say she was born in Arkansas but considered herself a Texan as she moved to Texas at just 5 weeks old. Lenora grew up in Port Isabel, Texas with her 3 brothers, Carlton, Wayne and Denny and 1 sister, Gloria. She would often tell us her favorite job growing up was as a soda "jerk". She loved waiting on the customers at the drugstore offering them their favorite milk shake and kind of liked the attention she received from the boys! She played for the girl's basketball team while attending Port Isabel High and loved every bit of it. After marrying and raising her children, she worked as gift shop cashier for a brief time and then helped waitress at her son and daughter in law's restaurant until her health issues prevented that. When Lenora's children were young, the phrase "stay at home Mom" didn't exist. It was usual for women to stay at home while their husbands worked and Lenora did just that. She was an exceptional wife and mother. She cared deeply for her family and friends not out of obligation, but because of who she was. Lenora was a compassionate spirit whose passion was to help others. She was an active member of St. John Lutheran church and was also a member of the Ladies Aid. She volunteered for many church socials, PTA, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, you name it, she was there. She never hesitated to share the love that came so freely. Lenora dreamed of getting married and having children and that dream came true when she married the love of her life, Edwin (Eddie) Schneider on June 17, 1955 after dating for only 3 months. She was the mother of 8 children, Debbie Dillard (Earl), Karen Holbrook (Hank), Jakob Schneider (Lonnie), Brenda Cook (Loren), Vicky Sanchez (Henry), Cindy Stevens (Corey), Bruce Schneider (Eydie), Jennifer Burrier (Ronnie). Despite her large family Lenora always made time for everyone. She always provided support and love for her family while working side by side with Eddie to provide opportunities for their children. Sometimes it seemed as though they both lived vicariously through their children. Always pushing them to try new ventures and opportunities that neither of them had as children. They both were their children's biggest cheerleaders. Lenora loved shopping ALOT, crafting, playing board games, cake decorating and watching her beloved San Antoino Spurs and Houston Astros. But her greatest love was holding babies. And she did that often with 19 grandchildren and 33 great grandchildren. Lenora and Eddie loved to travel but when Lenora was diagnosed with Parkinsons her long distance traveling was limited but it didn't keep her from local travel to Dollar Tree and Hobby Lobby. She would hear the word shopping and loaded up! Weather was never a hinderance. Lenora is preceded in death by her husband Eddie and son Jakob. Special thanks to her caregivers, the staff at Victoria Comfort Homes and also to Elara Hospice. Visitation will be December 8, 2023 from 4:00 p. m. to 7:00 p. m. at Buck Ashcraft San Benito Funeral Home. Funeral Service will take place on December 9, 2023 at 10:00 a. m. at St. John Lutheran Church with burial following at Mont Meta Memorial Park. Honored to serve as pallbearers are her grandsons, James Dillard, Joshua Freeman, Jacob Freeman, Ryan Holbrook, Derek Holbrook, Cullen Holbrook, Jonathan Padilla, Matthew Sanchez, Nicholas Sanchez, Christopher Schneider, and Taylor Schneider. in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to St Jude's, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or Culture of Life Ministries , 205 S 4th Street, Harlingen TX 78550.
