Maria R. Torres, born June 2, 1932, in Taylor, Texas went to be with the Lord November 27, 2023, at the age of 91. She is preceded in death by her brother Augustin Ramirez, niece Vicenta Ramirez, and grandson David Torres, Jr. Maria was loved by all who got to meet her. She just had that thing that you immediately liked and loved her. She cultivated all her relationships by being a servant. She was a strong believer of our Lord Jesus Christ and while she was able, she served at her church in various capacities. She raised her five children by herself and only wanted the best for them. She cherished Sunday breakfasts when all gathered together for her homemade tortillas. She worked as a domestic until her children were grown. The people that she worked for loved her for her heart of gold. After her children were grown, she studied to become a CNA where she cared for two beautiful elderly ladies in their homes until the Lord called them. When she retired, she enjoyed herself immensely, she attended Older Adult Camp, took trips to the coast and enjoyed shopping and eating out. At the age of seventy-five she went to live in a senior community that she totally loved. She made a host of friends. She would bake sweets for everyone but more importantly she would care for her neighbors when they were ill. She would make them soup or a hot meal and even go shopping for them until they recuperated. She volunteered at the community store and would help with special events. Brucks, age 94, of Fairmont, MN and formerly of San Antonio, TX, will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, December 8, 2023, at East Chain Evangelical Free Church in rural East Chain, MN. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors provided by the Lee C. Prentice American Legion Post 36 and Martin County Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1222. Visitation and a light brunch will be held 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM on Friday, December 8, 2023, at East Chain Evangelical Free Church. Those wishing to view the service may do so on the following link: https://client. tribucast. com/tcid/1469770422. In lieu of gifts or memorials, the family asks that you honor Arlie by sharing the Good News of Jesus with someone this Christmas! The Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont is assisting the family with arrangements. Arlie Gene Brucks was born September 10, 1929 in Hondo, Texas to Alfred Gustav and Ella (Bohmfalk) Brucks. He was one of four children, having two older sisters; Glenrose Saathoff and Darlene Nagle of Hondo and one younger brother; John T. Brucks of Picayune, Mississippi. Arlie graduated from Hondo High School in 1946 and became a carpenter working with his dad until January of 1951 at which time he was inducted (drafted) into the Army. Arlie qualified for Officers Candidate School and received his commission to 2nd Lieutenant in June of 1952. After a six month stateside duty as an anti-aircraft artillery officer Arlie was sent to Korea in December 1952 where he served until receiving his Honorable discharge in November 1953. He remained on reserve duty status until January 1954, achieving 1st Lieutenant. Arlie married Janice Friend of San Antonio in July of 1954. They decided to take advantage of the GI bill and attend college. Arlie received his Electrical Engineering Degree from the University of Texas in June of 1960 and his masters in Management Science from Texas Christian University in 1974. The first four years as an engineer found Jan and Arlie moving to New York, Pennsylvania, California, and Washington D. C. This was an exciting time but the pull of Texas found them settling in Fort Worth where Arlie was employed until retirement. His work at General Dynamics consisted of testing electronic equipment of several aircraft types. Arlie enjoyed most being responsible for a large group of engineers and technicians entrusted with all the ground and flight testing of avionic (electronic) systems on all versions of the F-16 fighter aircraft. Arlie gave up the golf clubs in 1968 when Cynthia (Cyndi) was born just before their 13th anniversary. He instead spent his free time building a playhouse with running water and electricity, laying brick sidewalks for tricycles, playing badminton, and dress up. He then progressed to homework-checker, math tutor, science fair project "manager" and master builder of decorations for high school dances. He and Jan were a great parenting team. After Cyndi left came retirement and "RVing". The Bruckses spent 9 years exploring the United States, but mostly keeping the road "hot" to Minnesota. Jan and Arlie moved to Fairmont in 2015 to be nearer the Minnesota family. Grandsons kept Arlie "young" with sporting events and after school activities. Arlie lovingly cared for his wife Jan until her Heaven-going in May of this year. He spent his last month in Dale and Cyndi's home, then peacefully entered Jesus loving arms on December 1, 2023. Left to cherish Arlie's memory are brother John (Lanelle) Brucks of MS, nieces and nephews across the South, daughter Cyndi (Dale) Jensen of East Chain and grandsons Eli, Brandon (Christina) of Watertown, SD, Brian (Tashina) of Fairmont and Brady (Chloe) of Blue Earth.Show more
