In Loving Memory of Elsie Philinda Franson (May 23, 1947 - September 7, 2023)With great sadness, we announce the passing of Elsie Franson, 76, on September 7, 2023. A loving mother, devoted grandmother, and beloved wife, she leaves behind memories and love that will forever be etched in our hearts. She was born Elsie Philinda Mooney on May 23, 1947, to William and Alice Mooney in Glendale, CA. She lived in California until her move to New Jersey in 1989. In 2003 she married Paul Franson. Elsie's memories live on through her husband Paul, daughter Jennifer Friend-Huizer, son-in-law Robert Huizer, and her two grandchildren, Rebecca Huizer and Ian Huizer. She is also survived by her sister, Doretta Converse and many nieces and nephews who still reside in California. Elsie worked for Pacific Bell (Bellcore, Telcordia, AT&T) her entire working career. Her grandchildren gave her so much joy. She loved to watch Rebecca dance and attended every one of her performances. Ian loved his animals and she was always willing to play with him and support his activities. She loved to cook and holidays were her favorite time to prepare large meals. Friends and family often requested copies of her recipes. Many of these recipes passed on through the family over the generations. Her friends would look forward to homemade cookies at Christmas and she was known for making cakes and decorating them for various occasions. Collecting bears was a passion for Elsie as she was quite the collector of Boyd's bears, Lucy and Me Bears, and Cherished Bears. Elsie also enjoyed gardening and sewing (prom dresses, Halloween costumes for both grandchildren and princess dresses for her granddaughter). She loved to exercise and was proud to be lifting weights into her early 70s. One of her favorite vacations was the annual family trip to Avalon, NJ with her daughter's family. Sadly she developed dementia and life for Elsie was certainly not as she imaged it would be in her final few years. We will hold on to the many memories and will celebrate the love she filled so many with. Friends and family are invited to join in remembering Elsie during the funeral, which will be held on September 29, 2023, from 9 to 10 am at Wilson-Apple Funeral Home at 2560 Pennington Road in Pennington. A Burial will follow at 11:30 am at the BG William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Wrightstown, NJ. https://www. nj. gov/military/veterans/services/cemetery/Condolences are welcome at https://www. wilsonapple. comIn lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Tabby's Place, https://www. tabbysplace. org/donate/one-time-donation/, where her last two cats were adopted from.

Dana Dreibelbis

Dana Dreibelbis

Age - 67

December 4, 2023

Dana Ernst Dreibelbis1956-2023Dana Ernst Dreibelbis, 67, died on December 1, 2023. He was known as a kind, intelligent man who lived a life of purpose, dedicated to serving others. Dana was born in West Chester, PA on February 22, 1956 to Eleanor and Jason Dreibelbis. He married Leslie Conrad on June 17, 1978. They were married for 45 years, and had four children--Michael, David (Karen), Carol (Simon), and Emily. Dana also enjoyed being a grandfather to Louisa (7), Anita (5), Margaret (3), and Eliza (1). Family was his greatest joy and a constant source of pride. He cherished his family history and the values passed on to him by his parents and grandparents, which he passed on to his children. Dana grew up in Chatham, NJ and Oxford, PA. He fondly remembered his upbringing, including his paper route, family camping trips, the 1971 Boy Scout Jamboree in Japan, hiking 600 miles of the Appalachian trail at age 16, and the music of the '60s and '70s. Dana graduated from Oxford High School in Pennsylvania in 1974. He attended Princeton University, where he met Leslie. Dana played on the soccer team and was a geology major. One of the most formative experiences of his time in college was his summer in India in 1976, where he taught English, served in a hospital, and planted a community garden with a team of oxen. He retained a deep interest in other cultures, and returned to the hospital in 2006, 30 years later, with his family. After graduating, Dana studied at the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago. He remained an active church member throughout his life, including taking his family every Sunday and continually finding new ways to share God's love. Dana's career in publishing included decades of management experience. He held top positions at Elsevier, CBS, Thomson Reuters, Augsburg Fortress, and Rutgers University Press, where he served as Executive Editor before retiring in 2016. His work took him around the world, including a degree at INSEAD in France in 1994, frequent trips to Germany, and trips to the Soviet Union shortly before the fall of the Berlin Wall. He published multiple best-sellers, and was named Publisher of the Year in 2006. In retirement, Dana explored his dedication to the outdoors and social justice. He worked on a local organic farm, spearheaded a Juneteenth celebration in Princeton, started a co-ed Scout troop in Trenton, hiked the Inca Trail, traveled to Japan, and went fly fishing in Montana. He, Leslie, and multiple dogs over the years enjoyed annual trips to Nova Scotia, where they camped on a small piece of land. They purchased it on a whim in 1978, and together grew it into a family tradition. Dana was a gifted athlete, accomplished woodworker, lifelong scholar, and amateur artist. Above all, Dana was a dreamer. He fought "the good fight" and always showed up, especially for a festive meal. He was looking forward to walking Emily down the aisle at her wedding to Tony in July 2024. He will be greatly missed. Dana is survived by his mother; his wife, children, and grandchildren; his brothers Eric (Aimee) and Mark (Janine); and a large extended family. Donations can be made to the Appalachian Trail Conservancy.Show more
