Ellen J. Gould (Verrier), 74, of Danielson Pike, North Scituate, passed away August 20, 2023. She was the wife of the late Robert Gould. They had been married for 30 years. Born in West Warwick, she was the daughter of the late Roland J. and Waneta M. (Bath) Verrier. She had lived in North Scituate for 40 years previously living in West Warwick. Ellen had worked with the State of RI in the Department of Human Services. Ellen was a lover of all animals. She enjoyed spending time at the ocean, clamming, quahogging and fishing. She enjoyed spending time with her close friends that she considered family. She belonged to the First Universalist Church of Burrillville. She leaves her children, Scott Soares of Coventry, Synthia Stabile and her husband Brian of Warwick and Steven Soares and his wife Lorrie of West Warwick and 3 grandchildren Scott J. Soares II , Savannah J. Soares and Sage J. Soares all of Coventry. She leaves a brother William M. Verrier of Warwick. She was the sister of the late Ann M. Thomas. Visitation will be held Wednesday September 13th from 5-7pm in the Anderson-Winfield Funeral Home, Route 44 at Greenville Common, Greenville. Funeral and Burial will be private. Reverend Roger A. Houle, 71, Pastor Emeritus of St. Joseph Parish, North Scituate, died Monday, February 27, 2023. Born in Woonsocket, Rhode Island, son of the late Leo and Liliane (Riendeau) Houle, he attended St. Ann School, Mount St. Francis School, and Mount St. Charles Academy, all in Woonsocket. In preparation for the priesthood, Father studied at Our Lady of Providence Seminary, Warwick, and St. Meinrad School of Theology, St. Meinrad, Indiana, and was ordained to the priesthood on November 12, 1977 at St. Agatha Parish, Woonsocket, by Most Reverend Kenneth A. Angell, Auxiliary Bishop of Providence. Father Houle served as assistant pastor at St. Augustin Parish, Newport (1977-79); St. Ann Parish, Cranston (1979-85); and St. Ann Parish, Woonsocket (1985-89). In 1989, he was appointed pastor of St. Ann Parish, Woonsocket, and served there until 2001. Father completed sabbatical studies at the North American College in Rome in 1996. In 2001, Father Houle was appointed pastor of St. Joseph Parish, North Scituate, and served there until his retirement as Pastor Emeritus in 2019. In addition to his parish duties, Father Houle served as: a member of the diocesan Priests' Personnel Board (1986-92, 1997-99); administrator pro tem at Our Lady of Victories Parish, Woonsocket (1995-2001); administrator at St. Aloysius Parish, Woonsocket (1998-2001); diocesan Dean/Vicar Forane of Deanery X (2011-13); interim Director at St. John Vianney Residence, Providence (2017); and chaplain at St. Antoine Residence, North Smithfield (2018-19). Father Houle also served as the first diocesan Senior Priest Advisor (2008-17), and provided outreach assistance to the retired priests of the Diocese of Providence. Father Houle is survived by his siblings, Rachel L. Nulman of Lincoln, Estelle F. Borucki of Norton, MA, Andre L. Houle of Douglas, MA and Jeannette C. Farley of North Smithfield. He is also survived by one nephew and six nieces. Calling Hours will be held Thursday, March 2, 2023 from 3-7pm, with a Mass of Christ the High Priest to follow at 7pm in St. Joseph Church, Danielson Pike, North Scituate. A Concelebrated Mass of Christian Burial for the repose of Father's soul will be offered on Friday, March 3, 2023 at 10am, in St. Joseph Church, North Scituate. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery, Cumberland. Doris Stanley, 90 of North Scituate passed away peacefully at home with her devoted children by her side, on Thursday July 28, 2022. Born in Providence, she was the daughter of the late Ovila and Alice (Blake) Imbeault. She was the beloved wife of the late Edward J. Stanley for 53 years until his passing in 2006. Doris enjoyed using her artistic talent hand-painting jewelry for a prominent jewelry company in Providence, as well as, many other arts and crafts at home. She was also an excellent cook who loved to entertain family and friends. Christmas Eve was by far the favorite holiday that she hosted. Along with cooking, she loved to dine at some of her favorite restaurants. Doris had a way of creating meaningful friendships that often led to friends becoming part of her extended family. She was the glue that kept her close-knit family together. New babies would light up her life, we will always remember her expression of joy when she would hold them for the first time. Doris is survived by her daughter Jacqueline M. McKenna and her husband John "Jack" McKenna of Hope, and her son Edward J. Stanley, Jr. and his partner Valerie Dulin of Coventry. She was predeceased by her siblings P. Marie McLachlan, John Imbeault and Joseph Imbeault. The funeral for Doris will leave on Wednesday August 3, 2022, at 9:00 am from the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME, 1278 Park Avenue, Cranston, followed by her Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am at St. Joseph's Church, 151 Danielson Pike, North Scituate. Peggy C. (Clancy) Cost, 66, of North Scituate, passed away Sunday, July 3, 2022 due to complications from cancer. She was the beloved wife of Cmdr. Brian P. Cost, USCG retired. Born in Buffalo, NY, she was the daughter of the late Thomas G. and Charlene E. (Collar) Clancy. Peggy lived in Glocester for 11 years before moving to Scituate in 1998. She graduated summa cum laude from Hawaii Pacific University and excelled at teaching. You could usually find her working on her family farm raising sheep and competing in dog sports with her beloved dogs. She was an accomplished cook and seamstress and she celebrated life and family. She was a member of Save Your Ass Longear Rescue, American Belgian Malinois Club and the Poodle Club of America. In addition to her husband Brian, she is survived by her children, Katherine E. Amsden of Scituate and Charles B. Cost and his wife Christine of Scituate. She was the sister of the late T. Michael Clancy and the late Patrick E. Clancy. Sister in-law of Donnamae (Fitz) Clancy of Maryland and Cynthialu (Fitz) Clancy of Georgia. She was the grandmother of James B. Cost, Elizabeth E. Amsden, Meghan H. Amsden, A. S. Amsden, Joshua G. Amsden and Brian C. Cost. Peggy will always be remembered as a beloved wife, mom, grandmom and sister that always put her family first. Charles C. Cost, 93, a North Scituate resident for 72 years, passed away Thursday, March 24, 2022. He was the husband of the late Marian H. (Bush) Cost. Born in East Providence, he was a son of the late Leland M. and Mabel E. (Brown) Cost. He was fire protection engineer for 32 years before retiring from the Grinnell Corp. He was a member of North Scituate Baptist Church for over 50 years and a member of the Civil Air Patrol during WWII. He was a member of the former Hamilton Lodge F&AM for over 60 years, the Scottish Rite Valley of Providence and Martha Washington Chapter, Order of Eastern Star. He was an avid camper and boater, a member of the Sunshine Wheelers Camping Club, the National Camping Travelers Club, RI Family Camping Association, a former member of the Wickford Yacht Club and the Clodhoppers Square Dance Club. He was the father of Clifford Cost (Gail) of Foster, David Cost (Susan) of Chepachet, Brian Cost (Peggy) of North Scituate and Gordon Cost (Patricia) of North Scituate, Allison Thienel (Larry) of North Scituate. He was the brother of the late Robert L. Cost. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren and 39 great-grandchildren.
