Monnie Carter Porter, age 59, of Sandy Hook, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, February 6, 2024, at Morgan County ARH Hospital in West Liberty, Kentucky.She was born Wednesday, March 11, 1964, in Rowan County, Kentucky, a daughter of Mary Pennington Conn of Sandy Hook, Kentucky, and the late Leroy Carter.Monnie enjoyed going to the casino’s, playing scratch off tickets, traveling, going out to eat and spending time with her grandchildren.In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her husband Johnny Rigdon; two brothers, Donald Carter and Dean Carter.In addition to her mother, Monnie is survived by three sons, James Porter and Gerald Porter both of Sandy Hook, Kentucky, Paul Day Jr. of Hillsboro, Kentucky; one daughter, Kimberly Jackson of Grayson, Kentucky; thirteen grandchildren; one brother, Danny Carter of Sandy Hook, Kentucky; four sisters, Mylinda Carter of Sandy Hook, Kentucky, Mary Ann Evans of Louisville, Kentucky, Lola Carter and Jamie Carter both of Cincinnati, Ohio, along with many other family and friends who will sadly miss her.Funeral services will be held 12 noon, Saturday, February 10, 2024, at Globe Funeral Chapel, 17277 West US Hwy 60, Olive Hill, Kentucky, with Brother David Rayburn officiating. He was born Wednesday, March 8, 1950 at Lenox, KY, son of Glenn Boyd & Ardene Day Hamilton. He was a retired farmer and truck driver. He was a loving grandfather and great grandfather and will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. He was preceded in death by his parents, Glenn Boyd & Ardene Hamilton; his daughter, Stephanie Jo Hamilton Morris; one great grandson, Alexander Dewayne Peyton; and one brother, Michael David Hamilton. This union was blessed with three children, James Curtis, Matthew, and Kenny. She was a homemaker, devoting her life to care for her family and her home, and was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Watkins, eleven Brothers and one sister. Karen Cassity Ross, age 79, of Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, January 16, 2024, at West Liberty Nursing and Rehab in West Liberty, Kentucky, after extended health difficulties. Born December 2, 1944, in Lexington, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late Ralph Cornette Cassity and Gracie B. Jones Cassity. In addition to her parents, Karen was preceded in death by her husband of 27 years, Ray Ross, who passed away February 16, 2015. She is survived by two daughters, Shelley Sluss Taliaferro and Sheryl Ann Stern Ortega, both of Morehead; two stepsons, Raymond P. “Rocky” Ross, III of Grayson and Bradley Conrad Ross of Lexington; one brother, Jim Fred Cassity of Morehead; and one sister, Mary Morphew of Lexington. Other survivors include four grandchildren, Marco Ortega (Whitney), Madison Ortega, Gabriel “Gabe” Taliaferro, and Faith Taliaferro; three great grandchildren, Sophia, Marco, and Stella, Ortega, as well as extended family and friends. One of Karen’s favorite things to do besides spending time with her grandkids and great grandkids was reading. She was an avid reader, especially mysteries. She was also an active member of the retired teachers association. She also enjoyed hosting her husband Ray’s students over, except Ray did the cooking and she did the socializing. The two of them loved it when they were able to travel to New Orleans, their favorite city with excellent cuisine and exciting atmosphere. Karen was known for her storytelling and being chatty, as well as her sarcastic quick wit. A celebration of life service will be held on Sunday, February 4, 2024, at 4:00 p.m. at Trinity Christian Fellowship, 537 West Main Street, Morehead, Kentucky, with Pastor Wade Muncy officiating.
