Mike was a proud U.S. Air Force Veteran who retired after 24 years of service working on ground power, and he worked another 23 years as a technical writer. He was a dedicated St Louis Cardinals fan and was also employed at Busch Stadium as an usher for 20 years. Mike loved traveling with his family, telling silly jokes, playing with his beloved dog, reading history books, woodworking, and listening to the ‘oldies’. He was devoted to his wife Maggie for 50 years. Memorials may be made to the (in the name of SMSgt Howard Henry; or . Joseph “Joe” Eugene Wisdom, 72, passed away at his residence in Swansea, Illinois on Saturday, 10 February, 2024. Joe was born 20 September, 1951 in St. Louis, MO. His husband Tab Hunt and he had shared nearly 35 years together. Tab still resides in Swansea, IL. Also surviving is his daughter, Alexandrea (Michael) Riebold of O’Fallon, IL; grandsons, Tristan and Gavin; his brother, Louie (Deb) Wisdom of St. Louis, MO; sister-in-law, Teresa (Patrick) Franklin of Newburgh, IN; nieces and nephews, Wren (Zak) Riley-Grimes of Evansville, IN, Shaun Riley of Marion, KY, Jennifer (Marty) Graham of Granite City, IL, Elizabeth (Kyle) Wisdom of Chicago, IL, Robert (Lisa) Wisdom of Florissant, MO, Charles Wisdom of St. Louis, MO, Michael (Dia)Wisdom of Sebastian, Florida and Dan Wisdom Jr. (Tosca) of St Louis, MO; any many great-nieces and great-nephews. Joe was preceded in death by his mother, Vera Vita (Russo) Wisdom and two brothers, Daniel Wisdom and Phillip Wisdom. Joe proudly served his country in the United States Air Force for 30 years. He retired as a highly decorated Chief Master Sergeant. His career path was widespread and included being a military training instructor, a recruiter assistant, and finance Airman which eventually led him to become lead accountant. After active-duty retirement he went back into the civilian service side of the military, serving an additional 15 years. He has a Masters Degree in Accounting from Webster University, St Louis, MO. He is active in the local Democratic party serving as a voting judge and then being elected to Committeeman District 28 St. Clair County. While away from work, he enjoys being outdoors, tending to his beautiful lawn and caring for his home. Joe never had an idle moment. He loves his family dearly, especially his two grandsons. He will truly be missed by all who knew and loved him. Joe and Tab love animals and have rescued five dogs. Joe leaves behind his two beloved dogs, Measles and Bree. Memorial donations may be to the Spencer Kennel in O’Fallon, IL, a local no-kill shelter. Donate (paypal.com) A visitation for Joe will be held on Saturday, 24 February, 2024 from 10:00 A.M.- 12:00 P.M. at Lake View Funeral Home, Fairview Heights, IL. Cremation rites have been accorded under the direction of Lake View Funeral Home.

Felicity Rixmann

December 5th 1934 – January 19th 2024 Born to Victor and Iris East in Dartford, Kent, United Kingdom, Felicity Rixmann left this world on January 19th 2024 at the Mercy Rehab and Care Center in Swansea Illinois. She lived in Kent during the London Blitz of WWII. As a young adult she worked for Kodak in their flagship shop in Regents Street. While there she developed a taste for theatre and appeared in plays in the Westend. She met Cyril ‘Nick’ Nicholson at Kodak and they were married in 1955. As their family grew to six children they settled in Amersham, a western suburb of London. Felicity met Amos Rixmann of Nashville Illinois when he was in Amersham on business. They moved to Denver Colorado in December of 1975. There she worked as a bookkeeper for a construction firm. Felicity and Amos were married in Denver on July 7th of 1976 but moved to Nashville Illinois when Amos’s father retired from farming in the summer of 1979. It was tough to start out farming in the early 1980s so Felicity trained as a nurse and obtained her RN from Kaskaskia College in May of 1983. She worked as a paediatric psych nurse in Centralia Illinois and as a geriatric Nurse at Friendship Manor in Nashville Il. Amos died June 24 1999 and Felicity stayed on the farm for a further four years before moving to Nashville Il. in March of 2003. She was a positive member of Friends of the Library, Home Extension and Warped and Twisted Weaving and knitting group. She developed her gardening skills through the Master Gardeners Program and wrote articles for the Nashville News. Her home and garden became her pride and joy. In addition to the above mentioned interest She took great joy from Sewing and quilting. She was an avid reader of many genres and could quote Shakespeare and Gilbert and Sullivan till she was blue in the face. Felicity had a great interest in travel and always had a bag packed ready for the next adventure whether it was to Europe, Asia or The Antipodes. She will be remembered for her warm and outgoing personality, always one to never know a stranger, just a friend she hadn’t met yet. Memorials can be made to The Friends the Library-Nashville IL. Memorial service will be held in late May at the Nashville UCC Church and the cremains will be interred at North Prairie cemetery, Hoyleton Il. and in the UK.

Dorothy Zillen

Dorothy Zillen, age 99, of Swansea, IL, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 6, 2024, at her residence. Dorothy was born on August 13, 1924, to the late Michael and Mildred, nee Matt, Klim. She grew up in East St. Louis, IL, and spent most of her childhood learning how to play musical instruments and writing music. She made her living playing the accordion and the piano in local establishments. Later in life, she was a caregiver. Dorothy’s husband, Anthony Zillen, was a Navy pilot who died while on active duty in early 1957. Dorothy continued her love of music by taking lessons on the organ. She also enjoyed coloring using markers and colored pencils. Dorothy had an amazing smile and great sense of humor; just about everyone she met instantly fell in love with her and many became longtime friends who kept in touch with her even after moving long distances away. She is survived by four daughters and four sons, Janice Gebel, Loraine Lorenz, and Mary Neuschel, all who reside in NC, Rita Benecke of HI, Gerard Zillen of IL, Don (Alice) Zillen, of WA, Joe Zillen of NM, and Tony (Theresa) Zillen, of TN; her caregiver and best friend, Mary Ann Naas, her ex-daughter-in-law, Judy Zillen; 12 grandchildren, Craig Van Vooren, Gayla Van Vooren, Scott Neuschel, Mark Benecke, Jr., Max Benecke, Brigitte Benecke, Ingrid (Thomas) Chiles, Liesel Benecke, Eddie Hepfer, Brian (Rebecca) Hepfer, Zak (Laura) Zillen, and Jamie (Kyle) Zamora. A special thanks to Unity Hospice for their support and dedication to the care of Dorothy over the last year. Dorothy was cremated, and a Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, February 4, 2024, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., at Kassly Mortuary, Ltd., Fairview Heights, IL.

Thomas Jefferson Gibson, 87, born October 14, 1936, in Kansas City, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, January 9, 2024, at Mercy Rehab and Care Center in Swansea, Illinois. He was the son of Henry Thomas and Martha (Jones) Gibson, but raised by his paternal grandparents, Thomas Jefferson and Betty (Cruise) Gibson. T.J. graduated in 1954 from Wyandotte High School in Kansas City with the love of his life, Dora Sue Twitchel, who survives. They married that fall and enjoyed 69 years of marriage. He attended Donnelly junior college and Rockhurst College, studying accounting, and served in the United States Navy in Hutchinson, Kansas as an air traffic control tower operator. Tom pursued a career in printing management with Intercollegiate Press, World Color Press, and Quebecor, moving around the US and Canada. In 1999, he moved to Belleville and founded Gibson Executive Search. Tom loved hunting, fishing, popcorn, German chocolate cake, mom’s meatloaf, Heath blizzards, John Wayne, and dogs, but his passion was serving the Lord and sharing the word of God even from his bed in a nursing home. He served as a member, part time minister, and elder in the church of Christ, most recently in Kirkwood, Missouri. Also he could sing an amazing duet with mom, whistle with great skill, and play a mean harmonica. Preceding him in death are his parents, grandparents, brother, Frank Gibson, sister, Betty Ann Bridges, son-in-law Jim Beasley, and grandson Daniel Snyder. In addition to his wife, mourning his passing are his sisters, Ruth (Rick) Coon and Merry Gerdes of Sun City West, Arizona; daughters, Becky (Mark) Juelfs and Kelly(Damon) Snyder of Millstadt; daughter-in-law, Becky Fitch of New Smyrna Beach, Florida; and grandchildren, Kaitlyn Boucher, Grant (Rylee) Beasley, Nicholas and Amelia Snyder, Benjamin and Bryan Gibson, and Trevor and Craig Juelfs. In addition, he is survived by his son Barry (Andrea) Gibson. Visitation will be from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Tuesday, January 16th, 2024 at Valhalla Gaerdner Holten Funeral Home, Belleville, Illinois. Funeral will be at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, January 17th, 2024 at Valhalla Gaerdner Holten Funeral Home, Belleville, Illinois. There is an additional visitation one hour prior to funeral. Memorial donations to the Alzheimer’s Association, Got Your Six Support Dogs of Maryville, or Heartland Hospice are appreciated.

Woodford retired in 1990 after teaching and coaching for over 35 years. Most of his career was spent at Belleville Township High School West. Woodford taught many classes but was most known as a Health Teacher. He was also a founding member of the Round Table Breakfast Club. Woodford attended Southwest Mississippi Junior College and Southeastern Louisiana University. He played basketball and ran track at both schools. He was a United States Korean War Army Veteran. Memorials may be made to the BTHS-West Athletic Department. Gathering will be held from 11:00am to 1:00pm on Saturday, January 13, 2024 at Kurrus Funeral Home. Private family Interment.

Constance “Margaret” Mosley, 86 of Swansea, IL, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 23, 2023 at her residence. Margaret was born February 25, 1937 in Birmingham, England to Harold and Constance Lillian (Poultney) Biddle. She married Derrick Mosley in 1957; he preceded her in death on October 31, 1994. She was also preceded in death by her parents and her one brother, Gordon Biddle Margaret is survived by her children, Kim (John) Beal and Blytheville, AR, Lee (Lindsey) Mosley of Birmingham, England, and Donna (Robert) Schmittling of Swansea, IL; grandchildren, Jamie (Danielle) Beal, Jennifer Beal, Scott (Danielle) Mosley, Jonathan (Karlie) Weaver, Robyn (Mike) Soto, Luke (Jessica) Weaver, Leanne Mosley, Joshua Mosley, Matthew (Meredith) Weaver, Nathan (Blair) Schmittling, Nathan Mosley, Zak Mosley; and 14 great-grandchildren. Margaret cared for others as a scrub nurse in England for more than thirty years. She retired and moved to the United States, where she continued her working career as an administrative assistant for Cedar Ridge in Lebanon, until 2020. All of her life, Margaret was a talented and beautiful dancer. She loved all animals, especially her beloved dachshund, Gretchen who passed in 2021. Above all else, Margaret loved her family dearly. She cherished the time she was able to spend with them. She will truly be missed by all who knew and loved her. A funeral service for Margaret will be held on Wednesday January 3, 2024 at 11:00 A.M. at Trinity United Church of Christ in Belleville, IL. Cremation rites will follow under the direction of Lake View Funeral Home, Fairview Heights, IL. Memorial donations may be made to the Leukemia Lymphoma Society. Sharon loved teaching parochial grade school children, and was a teacher for 35 years at Cathedral Grade School, Belleville, IL. She was preceded in death by her parents, Carol and LaVerne, nee Fesenmeyer Grizzanti. Sharon is survived by her son, Bryan McCormack (Amanda Holtman) of O’Fallon, IL; her granddaughter, Kally Marie McCormack; many loving nieces and nephews; and her former husband, Tom McCormack of Swansea, IL. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

Bonnie Acker

, nee Ebberson, 87, of Swansea, IL, born Wednesday, October 7, 1936, in Bokoshe, OK, passed away Saturday, December 16, 2023 at Missouri Baptist Medical Center in Saint Louis, MO. Bonnie worked as a bookkeeper for the Scotts Bluff County Clerk's Office. Bonnie learned as a young woman how to care for others. Her father died suddenly when she was 14 years old. She took care of her siblings without fail while her mother managed to keep the bills paid. She raised her children with the same care she did with her siblings. Everyone who knew her felt they were perfect humans regardless of what faults were apparent to others. She lost her youngest son Bill to cancer when he was 28 years old. Her other son Gary died of a heart attack in the next decade followed by her husband Jim. While she was deeply devastated by these losses, she never lost her smile or her ability to express kind words for everyone. She has been known as Grandma Bonnie by so many people. She loved being a Grandma. She resided in IL for the past 14 years, and enjoyed her remaining years immensely. Her great friends Betty Powers, and Margaret King had many adventures together. Memorials may be made to the Humane Society of your choice, Visitation from 11:00 am - 1:00 pm, Tuesday, December 26, 2023 at Kurrus Funeral Home in Belleville, IL. A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 pm, Tuesday, December 26, 2023 at Kurrus Funeral Home with Rev. Doug Stewart officiating. Private Interment at Gering Nebraska Cemetery.
