Elizabeth Nantz Hollar, age 81, passed away on Friday, September 8, 2023, in Chapel Hill, NC. She was born on June 23, 1942, in Iredell County, NC, to the late Hubert and Beulah Smith Nantz. Libby was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Larry Hollar; son, Trent Hollar; daughter, Alice Hollar; and sisters, Martha Sloan, Annie Water, and Sue Phillips. She is survived by her grandchildren, Sanaa Alyemeni, Norah Alyemeni, Kawsar Chavez, and Yusif Alyemeni, great-grandchildren, Zane Moore, Alara Moore, Dash Chavez, Finn Chavez, and Sami Alyemeni; sisters, Alice Benfield, and Helen Wyatt; and many nieces and nephews. Libby worked in retail management and she enjoyed playing card games and online puzzles, her daily chats with her sister, Alice, and fishing at the beach. She especially loved going out to eat with her family, and spending time with her great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 12, 2023, from 3 pm until 4 pm, at Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 4 pm. Mr. Fredrick Alexander "Jake" Safriet, 97, of Statesville, NC, died Thursday, November 23, 2023, at Catawba Valley Medical Center, in Hickory, NC. He was born on May 30, 1926, in Rowan County, NC, to the late Arthur Eugene and Effie Mae McDaniel Safriet. Mr. Safriet was a faithful member of Yadkin Baptist Church, in Statesville, NC, where he served as a Deacon, Sunday school teacher, Music Director, and on numerous committees. He was a faithful husband, a wonderful father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and neighbor. Mr. Safriet graduated from Woodleaf High School, in Rowan County, in 1945, and from Catawba College, with a Business Degree, in 1947. He was employed by J. C. Penney Distribution Center, in Statesville, NC, where he worked for 41 years, retiring in 1988. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Shirley Stikeleather Safriet; five sisters, Thelma Gentle, Ethel "Tom" Mayhew, Lorene West, Gladys Safriet, and Dorothy Hensley; and two brothers, Bill Safriet, and Aaron Safriet, who was killed in action during World War II. Survivors include two children, Dianne Pollock (Ralph), of Columbia, SC, and Rev. Rick Safriet (Kim), of Lenoir, NC; five grandchildren, Chad (Christy) Pollock, Christie (Jodi) Davis, Jonathan (Michelle) Safriet, Jana (Brady) Soop, and Jason (Kaylin) Safriet; 14 great-grandchildren; brother, Dink Safriet (Tammy), of Salisbury, NC; and a number of nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p. m. , on Tuesday, November, 28, 2023, at Yadkin Baptist Church, Statesville, NC, with Rev. Jamie Fox, and Rev. Philip Crider officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the funeral service from 1:00 p. m. until 2:00 p. m. , at Yadkin Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Jake's name to Yadkin Baptist Church, 2980 Wilkesboro Hwy. , Statesville, NC 28625, or to Carolina Caring Hospice Care of Catawba County, 3975 Robinson Rd, Newton, NC 28658. Mrs. Peggy Lee Jackson, 69, passed from this life the afternoon of November 13, 2023 at Atrium Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center following an extended illness. She was born in Bertie County, North Carolina, on November 10, 1954, she was the daughter of the late Herbert Lee and Francis Jeanette Lee Bellamy. She attended elementary school at John B. Bond School in Lewiston, NC and secondary school at D Mat Thompson High School in Statesville. She graduated with her diploma from Mitchell Community College. She was first employed by Kewaunee Scientific, and then by Clark Components and eventually Dana Corporation in Statesville, NC. It is at Clark Components where she met the love of her life, her husband, Mr. Andrew Jackson who preceded her in death. She was last employed with Engineered Sintered Components (ESC) in Troutman, NC. Her manufacturing experience totaled over 30 years before retiring due to her health challenges. She loved to travel, eat out, watch movies, read books, and visit with friends. She had a keen memory and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. She attended Community Missionary Baptist Church and was formerly a member of Davidsonville Baptist Church in Statesville, NC as a young adult. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by six brothers, Earnest Lee,, Enos Lee, Franklin Scarfice Lee, Clinton Lee, Roy Lee and Earnhart Lee; three sisters, Clara Lee, Dorothy Lee Bunch, and Wilma Lee Hendricks. Mrs. Jackson is survived by her son, Shahidi Williams, Sr. , her daughter, Andrea Jackson, and one grandson whom she raised as her own son Shahidi Williams, II, four other grandsons, Andre Jackson, Isaiah Williams, Shahidi Williams, III and Angelo Jackson; two granddaughters, Assunta (Shauna) Williams and Goldyn Williams. She is also survived by one sister, Elizabeth Lee Gaither of Troutman, a step-brother, Charles (Bay Bro) Bellamy, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Celebration of Life services will be held on Saturday, November 18, 2023, at 1:00 p. m. at Rutledge and Bigham Mortuary.
