"Elizabeth Hernandez, 58, of Port Arthur, Texas passed away unexpectantly on Friday, September 22, 2023. Elizabeth was born on August 2, 1965 in Port Arthur, Texas to Phillip and Stella Todora. Elizabeth was a loving grandmother who doted on her grandchildren. She was a dedicated and loving caregiver to both her parents. In her younger years Elizabeth had an outgoing personality and was fun to be around. She loved to dance and decorate for the holidays. To her family's surprise she bypassed Halloween and already had her tree up and her home decorated for Christmas. Elizabeth previously worked at Casa Ole and Port Arthur Bowling Alley. Elizabeth is preceded in death by her parents, Phillip Joseph Todora, Sr. and Stella (Rivera) Todora; sister, Joni Todora. Those left to cherish Elizabeth's memory include her daughters, Sylvia Todora of Port Arthur; Veronica Esparza and husband Andres of Groves; grandchildren, Cesar Muzquiz, Jr. , Freddy Artola, Jr. , Joni Esparza, Sofia Riojas, Brandon Riojas and Joel Esparza; brothers, Phillip Todora, Jr. and wife Janis; Ray Todora and wife Haidee. Cremation services are under the direction of Melancon Funeral Home in Nederland. "

"Ray Joseph Berard Ray Joseph Berard, 97, of Bridge City, Texas, passed away on December 6, 2023, in Port Arthur, Texas. Rosary and Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a. m. , Monday, December 11, 2023, at Claybar Funeral Home in Bridge City. Officiating will be Deacon Steve Obernuefemann of St. Henry Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in Orange, Texas. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a. m. , Monday, December 11, 2023, at Claybar Funeral Home in Bridge City. Ray was born on August 25, 1926, in Port Arthur, Texas, to Milton and Edith Comeaux Berard. Ray worked as a clerk for Texaco in Port Arthur, Texas for 34 years before retiring in 1984. He was a veteran of World War II and served in the United States Army Air Forces. Early hobbies were camping and fishing with his family. After getting out of the Army, he became interested in guns. He collected and traded many over the years and enjoyed going to the gun range and attending gun shows. He also enjoyed researching the genealogy of his family history through church archives in Louisiana. He was preceded in death by his infant daughter Judy Marie Berard, his son Don Berard, his parents, his brother Walton Berard, and his father and mother-in-law Edwin and Agnes Bourgeois. He is survived by his wife of 73 years, Cecile Bourgeois Berard; their children, Gary Berard and wife Sylvia of Orangefield, Texas, Laura Blacksher and husband David of Santa Fe, Texas, and Brian Berard and wife Kelly of Highland Village, Texas; his grandchildren, Jarred LaComb and wife Chrissy, Christina Greenway and husband Sam, Melissa Whitford and husband Guy, Derek Blacksher and wife Lindsay, Alyssa Berard and Matthew Berard; 10 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; along with numerous other loving friends and family. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him. Serving as pallbearers are Jarred LaComb, Derek Blacksher, Sam Greenway, and Branden Greenway. Carlos Alberto Rodriguez, at just the age of 17 touched the lives of all those he met. He left a mark in this world that no one else could ever replicate. On December 6th, 2023, at 1:10am Carlos took his final breath in the arms of his father and mother, Jose and Alicia, and siblings Andrea, Adriana, and Antonio right at his bedside surrounded with family and friends who loved him so dearly. Carlos was born and raised in Port Arthur, TX. Being a lover of life, he was always looking for the next adventure. You could find Carlos floating in any body of water, enjoying the sun while fishing, running up and down a court playing basketball or surrounded by all his best friends sharing laughs and good times. Carlos was a devout Catholic and loved going to church and being with his peers worshiping our Lord and Savior. It was impossible to be around Carlos and not have a smile on your face. His energy and spirit were infectious. His hugs could cure any bad day and his heart of gold, no doubt, has made this world a better place. He truly loved life, all aspects of it. He faced all adversities and challenges with such courage and dignity, making his 2-year battle with cancer look graceful. Carlos blessed us with his angelic soul here on earth and will now look over us in heaven. A gathering of friends and family will be held Sunday, December 10, 2023, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM with a recitation of the rosary at 6:00 PM. A mass at ST. Charles of Borromeo Catholic church will occur Monday, December 11th, 2023, at 10:00 AM. Carlos will then be laid to rest at Greenlawn Memorial Park. A BEAUTIFUL LIFE GWENDOLYN BROWN DUGAS JULIEN Gwendolyn Brown Dugas Julien, a resident of Port Arthur, Texas was born November 9, 1934 in Lafayette, Louisiana to the late Gabriel and Alzina Brown. She graduated from Paul Breaux High School and attended Southern University for one year. At an early age, Gwendolyn was baptized at Good Hope Baptist Church. She married the late Harrison Dugas in 1953 and moved to Port Arthur, TX. Four children were born to that union. She was a Christian who raised her children in Rock Island Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend H. B. McCarty. In 1977, she joined First Six Street Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Ransom Howard. She served in the Mission Society, Senior and Mass Choirs and was an Encourager for new members. In 1968, she married Wilford Julien. They shared a beautiful life together until his death in 1987. She worked in shipping and receiving at Spencer's Ready to Wear Clothing Store and Weiner's Department Store. Gwendolyn loved to laugh, read and travel. She always had a listening ear and words of encouragement to share with family and friends. Her elegance, beauty and kind heart will be deeply missed but never forgotten. On December 3, 2023 she graciously heard the voice of God calling her saying, "Well done my good and faithful servant" and was overjoyed and eager to accept his call. It was at that moment Gwendolyn gained her heavenly wings. She is happily seated at the feet of Jesus rejoicing forevermore. Praise God! She was preceded in death by her parents Gabriel and Alzina Brown, her husband Wilford Julien and a cousin she grew up with, Dorothy Johnson. She is survived and leaves to cherish her memories, her son, Kenneth Dugas - Port Arthur; daughters, Ramona Lee (Herbert) -Beaumont; Sibyl Sanderson and Gwendolyn Dugas - Houston, special adopted daughter, Birdie Harrison - Beaumont; grandchildren, Kawana Wyatt (Milton), Tamekia Dugas, Taran Dugas, Lakeisha Sanderson (Roderick), Eric Jordan "Jordy" Lewis, adopted grandson, Christopher Mouton; 4 great-grandchildren; a special friend Janice Reed and a host of family and friends. Funeral service will be 10am Saturday, December 9, 2023 at First Sixth Street Baptist Church. Visitation 8am until service time. Interment Live Oak Memorial Park.
