David Michael Quagliata Newark, New York David Quagliata, age 79, passed peacefully in the early morning of December 6, 2023. David was born on February 6, 1944, in Lyons, New York, the son of Joseph and Sophie "Yaskow" Quagliata. He was predeceased by his parents, sister Patricia and stepdaughter Megan Bennett. He is survived by his loving wife Carol Quagliata, son Dan Quagliata, stepson Jared Bennett, granddaughter Justina (James) Quagliata, brother Terry (Kathy) Quagliata, nephews Jason and Andrew (Suzanne) Quagliata and countless extended family and friends. A trip to Wegmans was never complete without someone asking about David. In true David fashion, he lied about his age to enter the Army at age 17. He completed his basic training at Fort Dix, New Jersey and spent his 18th birthday in Bamberg, Germany. During his service he was responsible for setting up communication lines and switchboards, specializing in field radio communications and classified documents as Staff Sergeant. Upon his return stateside, he remained active in the Army Reserves, and used the GI Bill to earn his nursing degree. He was a supervisor of nursing supply at Newark Developmental Center until his retirement after a nearly 30-year career. He became involved in veterans' issues and services. He was a lifelong member of the Newark Elks, and the Newark American Legion, August Mauer Post 286. He served as the Commander of the Newark American Legion as well as being Commander of the Wayne County American Legion. He was not only tremendously proud of his own service, but also his fellow veterans. During his active years with the American Legion, he supported his brothers and sisters in arms through his volunteer hours, fundraisers, and boundless knowledge of resources for those in need. David was also a musician, a gardener, a woodworker, and an armchair comedian. More than anything, he was a friend to all, and generous with his time and infectious laugh. He is extraordinarily missed. Friends and family are invited to gather on Sunday, December 10, 2023 from 1-4PM at the Murphy Funeral & Cremation Chapel, 1040 State Route 31, Macedon, NY 14502. A Memorial Mass will be offered on Monday, December 11, 2023 at 12 noon, at St. Michael's Church, 410 South Main Street, Newark, NY 14513. Inurnment, with military honors, will be held at a later date at the Sampson Veterans Memorial Cemtery (New York State Veterans Cemetery-Finger Lakes). The Quagliata-Bennett family would like to thank the Wayne County Nursing Home for their exceptional care, along with the Rochester Regional Hospice Team. Bernice (Gianforti) Rinebold Bernice was born April 4, 1935 in Rochester NY and passed peacefully away on November 23, 2023, at the age of 88. Bernice graduated from Nazareth Academy in 1953 and Nazareth College in 1957 with a bachelor's degree in social work. After college, she went to work for Monroe County, first in the Child Welfare Department, and later as a Probation Officer until she retired in 1995. After her retirement from Monroe County, she went onto work for Continuing Developmental Services (CDS. During her tenure there she was instrumental in laying the groundwork for their guardianship program, which has been adopted by other agencies to protect the rights of their clients. She is survived by her children, Kevin (Sue) Rinebold and Sherri Rinebold; grandchildren, Kelly (Patrick) Hollenbeck, Brian Rinebold; great grandchildren, Liam and Rowan Hollenbeck; and life-long family friend, Mary Hughson. Bernice is predeceased by husband, Archie and parents, Salvatore and Hazel Gianforti. The family would like to thank the staff at Aaron Manor and Strong Hospital for their loving and passionate care provided to Bernice. A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, December 2 at 11:00 am at the Church of the Assumption in Fairport NY followed by a reception starting at 12:30 at Proietti's in Webster NY. Robert J. Kelsch, born November 8, 1940 in Cambridge MA, Predeceased by his parents John and Annabell, and his wife Linda, passed away November 10th at the age of 83. He is survived by his sons Todd and Paul (Katie), grandchildren Austin and Adeline, and brother Jack. Robert, a Mechanical Engineering graduate from Wentworth Institute of Technology started his career at Xerox, from which he retired in 1998. Throughout those years he earned (5) US Patents, a 2nd Bachelor of Engineering Degree from Roberts Wesleyan, promotions that guided him away from engineering, and the opportunity to achieve his Masters Degree in Career and Human Resource Development from Rochester Institute of Technology all before starting his own business at the age of 59. Even with all of his professional accomplishments, he was most proud of his time spent serving the public through North Ontario United Methodist Church, Ontario Parks and Recreation Board, Ontario Community Chest, Walworth-Ontario Rotary and as a member of the Wayne Central School Board, all culminating with being elected to (3) terms as Ontario Town Supervisor and being appointed as Deputy Town Supervisor by his successor for his beloved Town of Ontario. Robert has made a positive impact professionally and personally on those around him and instilled in those he mentored the belief that we should never ask for anything in return and we should never stop learning. He was too proud to ask for help, but always willing to give it. May we all aspire to be as selfless with our time, giving of what is worldly and humble with our blessings. Rochester: Mary A. Schifferli, age 83, passed away peacefully with her niece and kitty by her bedside at her home at The Gables Of Brighton on Monday, November 6, 2023. Mary was born in the town of Palmyra, NY to Pauline and Adrian VanderVen and was raised in Sodus, NY with her brother Franklin VanderVen; where their family had built a lovely home on the lake. Mary graduated from SUNY Brockport with an associates degree and she went on to Ohio Western University to further her education, and obtained her Masters degree in Library Science. Mary's first job was with the Rochester Public Library, first as a Librarian and then she advanced to Adult Service Consultant. Her mom, Pauline, was working at the Rochester Public Library as well. They enjoyed their lunch hours together. Mary eventually married William Schifferli and moved to Arizona. In Arizona, she worked in a hospital caring for the infants. Missing her librarian skills, they moved to Utica and she became the Adult Service Consultant Director in the Mid York Library system. Her longing for more took her to Munson Williams Proctor Art Institute Library in Utica. After a while she adventured to the Albany Institute of History and Art Library. She truly enjoyed it there and loved her co-workers. As time passed, her natural roots were calling her name. She and William, packed up from Utica and purchased the little historical cobblestone schoolhouse in Pultneyville, NY. Mary loved this home since she was a young girl. Her job now was the director of the Ontario Library- Adult Service Consultant. She retired from there. After her husband, William died; she went back to work where it all started at the Rochester Public Library. "Full circle", and she became a volunteer with hospice. Mary loved her kitties, friends, traveling, reading, family, and her favorite drink (Manhattan up with a lemon twist- NO CHERRY!). She will truly be missed by all, especially her little fur baby, "Mittens". Mary is predeceased by her mom and dad, Pauline and Adrian, her brother, Franklin VanderVen and her husband, William Schifferli. Mary is survived by nieces, nephews, and close friends. Family and friends are invited to gather for a time of visitation, Thursday, November 16, 2023 from 10-11AM where a Funeral Mass will follow at St. Mary's of the Lake Catholic Church, 5823 Walworth Road, Ontario, NY 14519. Ronald W. Sherman Macedon - Ronald W. Sherman, 75, passed away peacefully on November 2nd after a courageous battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his loving family and will be deeply missed by all that knew him. Ron's family was the center of his world, and he was the rock of theirs. Born in Flushing, New York, Ron was a graduate of Lindenhurst High School where he met and later married his high school sweetheart and love of his life, Chick Sherman. Ron went on to graduate from SUNY Brockport with a degree in Health Education. He was a beloved teacher at Pittsford Mendon High School for over thirty-five years where he touched the lives of countless students and staff. While at Pittsford Mendon, he proudly shared his love for the outdoors by establishing a Camping Club where he took many students on adventures in the Adirondacks. Ron was a lifelong learner who loved traveling, fishing, reading, and most importantly spending time with his family. Although he and Chick traveled the world, many of his greatest memories were made at his favorite place, Campbells Point, where he spent every summer. He was a superfan of the New York Mets, Buffalo Sabres, Syracuse Orangeman and especially the Buffalo Bills. Ron also loved supporting his grandchildren by taking them on trips of a lifetime and attending all of their many extracurricular activities. Some of the organizations that benefitted from his generosity of community service included: Palmyra-Macedon Dollars for Scholars, Meals on Wheels, St. Patrick Food Pantry, Advent House, and Macedon Canal Trails. In addition to his volunteerism, Ron was also driven by his unwavering faith and loyally worshiped at the First Baptist Church of Macedon. Ron enjoyed serving as deacon and the fellowship with his Lord and church family. Ron is preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Virginia Sherman, and family members Dick and Fanny Corigliano, Gary and Carolyn Sherman, Connie and Hank Dirska, and Frank Houston. He is survived by his BEST GIRL, Chick Sherman, children; Kim Dranichak, Kristin (Andy) Wahl, and Kevin (Becca) Sherman, grandchildren; Owen (Jenna) and Alex Wahl, George and Tyler Dranichak, Chase and Kenley Sherman, sister-in-law, Cathy Houston, brother in law, Rich Corigliano, a cherished aunt, cousins, nephews, nieces, and many close friends. There will be a Celebration of Ron's Life for all who wish to attend on Saturday, November 25th, at 1:00pm at the First Baptist Church of Macedon, 58 W. Main St. , Macedon, NY 14502.
