"Eleanor Ann (Solms) Hill of Peoria, Arizona passed away at home, Friday afternoon September 29, 2023, at the age of 97. She was born in Bisbee, Arizona on November 30, 1925, to Earl Oliver Solms and Grace Eleanor (Purnell) Solms. Eleanor was a schoolteacher for 21 years for the Pendergast Elementary School District, retiring in 1991. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Peoria, Delta Kappa Gamma (Alpha Iota Chapter) and the Cochise County Historical Society. Eleanor loved to travel, sew, and had a special interest in genealogy. On June 20, 1946, she married her husband Eugene Cosby Hill, Jr, who preceded her in death on November 14, 1980. Eleanor is survived by her sons Ron (Leslie) Hill of Yuba City, California and Larry Hill of Worland, Wyoming. Also surviving are her grandchildren Rick Rodriguez, Wendy (Troy) Sundin, Lori (Toby) Faccio, Karen (Christopher) Scott, Kerri Hatler, Erica Mills, Amy Taylor, Travis (Melissa) Hill, Lawrence (Joy) Hill, Kari (Kim) Barr, Kami (Rance) Neighbors, Dustin (Kristin) Hill and Caleb (Esmeralda) Hill and 26 great grandchildren and 10 great great grandchildren. Preceding her in death was her husband Eugene, her son Curtis Earl Hill and daughter Janet Louise Rodriguez, a granddaughter Robin Rodriguez and 3 sisters. A Funeral Service will be 2:00 pm on Thursday, October 5, 2023, at the First Presbyterian Church of Peoria, 10236 N. 83rd Avenue, Peoria, AZ 85345 with viewing one hour prior to the funeral. Graveside Services will be at 1:00 pm on Friday, October 6, 2023, at Evergreen Cemetery, Bisbee, Arizona. Contributions may be made in her name to the HART Pantry (Helping at risk teens) at the First Presbyterian Church of Peoria website under the Charity/outreach link. "

Gregoria DeLaTorre Esparza, loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 4, 2023 in Peoria, Arizona. Born in Allison/Gallup, New Mexico on February 12, 1926 but lived the past 60 years in Phoenix, Arizona. She was preceded in death by her infant son, Charles Anthony and her two adult daughters, Veronica Hahn Esparza and Diana Mullis. She is survived by seven adult children: Charlene Jernigan, Charles Raymond Esparza, Evelyn Esparza, and Dennis Esparza, Carl Esparza, Gregory Esparza, and Simon Esparza. She is also survived by seventeen grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren, and four great, great grandchildren. She was a loving caring mother and grandmother. She made the best tortillas in Arizona and New Mexico. Gregoria was born in Allison/Gallup, New Mexico on February 12, 1926. She attended Gallup High School where she met her future husband and father of her children, Carlos H. Esparza. She was a homemaker. After the children were older she was a teacher's assistant in the Roosevelt School District. She waitressed and eventually took a job at Honeywell where she retired after ten years. Gregoria was a devout Catholic and always a volunteer at her parish. Her last volunteering was with Ladies of Charity at St. Helen's Catholic Church in Glendale, Az. She will be greatly missed and remembered by many more for all the birthday cards to every family member over the years. She never missed a birthday. She will also be remembered for her amazing cooking skills. She could and bake! She was also an accomplished seamstress. She made dresses for three of her daughters' weddings including the bridesmaids dresses. She loved to embroider and left all of her family many beautiful embroidered items. July 23, 1946 November 22, 2023 Gerald (Jerry) Lee Finke - July 23, 1946 - Nov. 22, 2023 Jerry Finke, 77, of Peoria, AZ passed away Wednesday, November 22, 2023 from a heart attack. He spent his final evening with family. He was born on July 23, 1946 and spent the majority of his childhood in Minot, North Dakota. His parents were the late Gordon and Esma (Ez) Finke. He loved playing basketball and racing. He graduated from Minot High School in 1964. He started his working career at a Piggly Wiggly Store in Minot, moved to Washington State and married Joan K. Sullivan December 16, 1967 residing in Sumner, WA. While working at Boeing and Thriftway Grocery, he heard of a job opportunity in Kotzebue, Alaska in 1970. He accepted the job and moved his wife, Joan, daughter, Brenda, and son, Rob there to live and work. During the 7 1/2 years living in Kotzebue he enjoyed going hunting and fishing, at times taking his daughter Brenda with him. Jerry then moved his family back to Washington State to work for ANICA (Alaska Native Industries Cooperative Association) located in Seattle, which allowed him to travel back to various locations in Alaska to revamp stores that ANICA owned. Jerry and Joan also operated their own wholesale business during this time, shipping goods to Kotzebue, AK by barge to individual customers. In 1982 Jerry accepted the General Manager position with Hanson's once again and moved his family back to Kotzebue, AK where he and his wife Joan stayed until 1990 when they moved to Nome, AK and became General Managers of the Country Store. Eventually, this duo then moved into an alternating managing schedule of the Nome Liquor Store until they retired in 2011 to Peoria, AZ to spend time with their grandkids and great-grandkids. Jerry worked many long hours during his career, but always had time for his family. Family always came first whether he was teaching Brenda and Rob how to drive a car, motorcycle, snow machine, 3 and 4- wheelers, how to shoot a rifle and/or how to hunt and fish. These memories will always be cherished. Jerry's wife Joan was and will continue to be the love of his life and he is a SUPERHERO to his family for the love and care he provided her until his passing. Jerry will be missed by all who knew and worked for him over the years. He was an honest, loving man with a gentle soul that would help anyone he met. He always had a great sense of humor and loved sharing good jokes with everyone he knew. His emails filled with jokes and stories will be greatly missed. Jerry continues to give of himself unselfishly being a donor allowing him to be able to provide many future opportunities of continued life to others. Jerry will continue to live on in all his family members' hearts. We LOVE you always! Adelma Lee Dettmer, 89, of Peoria, Arizona passed away on Monday, November 20, 2023 after a brief illness. She was born June 22, 1934 to Fred and Amy Larson, the little sister to three older brothers, and raised on the family farm near Morganville, KS. She married Robert Dettmer in 1955 and raised two children in Clay Center for 24 years. She worked as a secretary at Gilmore-Tatge. Adelma was baptized and married at Swedesburg First Lutheran Church, later active in the United Methodist Church in Clay Center. Moving to Arizona in 1979, she made a vast network of friends and enjoyed traveling, desert sunsets and sports, especially the Phoenix Suns. Mostly, she loved her children and grandchildren and hearing about their dreams and adventures. Adelma was preceded in death by her parents, her dear husband Robert in 1981, brothers Royal Larson, Raymond Larson and Clifford Larson, and grandson Derrick Yingling. She is survived by her son Ron Dettmer (Larson) of Stilwell, KS , daughter Connie Yingling and son-in-law Mark Yingling of Peoria, AZ. She will be missed by seven grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. Respect calls will be at Neill-Schwensen-Rook Funeral Home on Thursday, November 30, from 5 to 7 pm. Private family interment will be held at the Greenwood Cemetery in Clay Center, Kansas.
