CROGHAN-Eldred F Lehman, 97, formerly of NYS Route 812; affectionately known as Nick, passed away peacefully on Thursday morning, October 5, 2023, at Carthage Center Nick is survived by his children, Sheryl A Palmer of Croghan, Bruce E Lehman of Lowville, Mark A and Bonnie Lehman of Croghan, and Debra and Jeffrey Peters of Croghan, 11 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, four great-great grandchildren, two sisters, Beverly Kloster and Glenda Kipfer, both of Croghan, and two sisters-in-law, Eleanor Lehman of Beaver Falls and Frances Taylor of Great Bend, several nieces, nephews and cousins He was predeceased by his wife, Lorna, his daughter, Jill Boliver, a son-in-law, Carl Palmer, two grandsons, Scott F Lehman, and Aaron J Lehman, a great-granddaughter, Adryan M Boliver, a great-grandson, Coleman D Boliver, a brother, Darwin Lehman, and brother and sister-in-law, Virgil and Florence Lehman, and two brothers-in-law, Henry Kloster, and Melvin Kipfer Nick was born on March 4, 1926 at Idle Ease, Croghan, a son of the late John Z and Lovina Virkler Lehman He attended Beaver Falls High School before enlisting in the U S Navy during WWII After his discharge in 1946, he married Lorna L Taylor, on November 1, 1947, at Evangelical United Brethren Church with Rev Frank Hube officiating Nick's work history included working in the woods, doing carpentry work, and road construction He later joined Electrical Union #1249 and worked for Beaverite in Beaver Falls, and then for AMF, Lowville, until his retirement in 1987 He was a member of Beaver River Memorial Post #1663, Croghan American Legion, and Black River Valley Campers He enjoying hunting, camping, and traveling with his wife Lorna Nick found joy in the simple pleasures of life, including playing cards with friends and family A funeral service will be held on Monday, October 9, 2023 at 1:00 p m at Iseneker Funeral Home, Inc with Rev Bruce W Chapman officiating Burial with Military Honors will be in Riverside Cemetery Annex, Beaver Falls Calling hours are from 11:00 a m -1:00 p m prior to the funeral service at the funeral home A luncheon at Croghan American Legion will immediately follow the graveside service, all are welcome Any food donations may be taken directly to the American Legion on Monday, beginning at 10:00 a m In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Beaver River Memorial Post #1663 Croghan American Legion, P O Box 217, Croghan, NY 13327 Condolences may be made online at www isenekerfuneralhome com To to the family, please

LOWVILLE - Elveira D. Roggie, 94, passed away on Monday, November 20, 2023 after a short stay at Sunset Nursing and Rehab Center, Boonville. Born on March 24, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Mollie (Widrick) and Andrew Lehman. Elveira married Wilburn on October 20, 1949. They shared 70 years together. Elveira, a member of the Croghan Mennonite Church, lived a life of faith and service, teaching children's and adult woman's Sunday School and Summer Bible School, singing, and active in the sewing circle. Elveira was a homemaker for many years. In 1965 she attended classes and passed the test to earn her GED certification. She worked in the cafeteria at Beaver River Central School until retirement. She tended a large vegetable garden and grew many flowers at her home in Croghan. In retirement, Elveira volunteered at the Watertown Agape Shoppe, MCC, and food services at Beaver Camp. She used her time productively, sewing, knitting, crocheting, and making beautiful braided rugs from old rags. A child of the Great Depression, she didn't waste time or anything else. Elveira is survived by her children, Dolores Gingerich (John), Calvin Roggie (Donna), and Joyce Gingerich (Lowell). Also surviving are her 11 grandchildren, and 18 great grandchildren, and her brother Everett Lehman. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, her brothers Arthur Lehman, Richard Lehman, and grandson Jed Roggie. Elveira's family are grateful for the skillful care and loving companionship provided by Patricia Steria and team of caregivers. Elveira's last few years at Brookside Retirement Community would not have been possible without Patricia. They also express gratitude to her caregivers at Sunset Nursing and Rehab. A memorial service for Elveira, will be held at 1:00PM, Monday November 27th at Croghan Mennonite Church. Calling hours are 11:00AM until the start of the memorial service. Interment will follow the service in the Croghan Mennonite Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are made with Sundquist Funeral Home. LOWVILLE - George Francis Spencer, 67, of Number Four Road, passed away on Saturday morning, November 18, 2023, at his home. In keeping with George's wishes, there will be no calling hours or funeral service. Burial will be held privately and at the convenience of the family. Services will be private and at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are with Iseneker Funeral Home, Inc. , Lowville. He is survived by a daughter, Cathy Dugger of Two Harbors, Minnesota; his siblings, Dorothy Olin of Glenfield; Stanley (Yvonne) Spencer of Lowville; Laura Hill of Lowville, and her fiance' David Gardner of Barnes Corners; two sisters-in-law, Linda Spencer of Lowville, Marlene Spencer of Lowville, several nieces, nephews and cousins. He is predeceased by a brother and sister-in-law, Raymond (Sally) Spencer; three brothers, Richard "Tony" Spencer, Glenn H. Spencer Sr. , Carl Spencer; a sister, Doris Louise Spencer, who died in infancy; two brothers-in-law, Richard Hill and Lloyd Olin. George was born in Lowville, a son of the late Willard J. and Lillian Presley Spencer. He attended Lowville Academy. He went to work on the John Cody farm on Route 177 for several years. He then worked for Ribstone Silos, Lacona, alongside his brothers, Carl, Tony, and Stanley for many years. He later worked alongside his brother Stanley on jobs in Carthage, for R. K. Brock, building the walls for 801 Housing that was being built in Lowville; and on Fort Drum, and on the Thousand Islands Bridge. George later worked at AMF in Lowville until his retirement in 2018. He enjoyed woodworking and working in his garage. He was always busy. In his younger years, he enjoyed hunting. George enjoyed playing pool and loved scratch off lottery tickets. Kathleen Elaine Gingerich, 84, of Waters Road Lowville, went peacefully to be with the Lord On Sunday, November 12th, 2023, under the care of her family, caregivers and Hospice. Kathleen was born on June, 3rd, 1939, a daughter of Simon Sr. and Adeline Gingerich. She attended the Harrisburg Country School for a short time, but because of her disability she was taught at home many household skills by her Father and Mother and resided with them. Kathleen faithfully attended the Naumburg Mennonite Church and enjoyed being with family and friends. She especially had a love for children and helped care for many of her nieces and nephews. Kathleen enjoyed traveling to Canada to visit many of her relatives. After her Mother's passing in 2003 she lived with her two sisters until January, 2005, when she became a resident of the UCP faith - based home on Waters Road, Lowville. She is survived by her brother and his wife, Simon Sr. and Diane Gingerich, Lowville; her sister, Mary Ellen Roggie, Carthage; many nieces and nephews; and great nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents; her sister-in-law, Lena Gingerich; her sister and brother-in-law, Clifford and Geraldine Zehr; her brother-in-law, Wilbur Roggie; several nieces and nephews. The funeral will take place on Saturday, November 18, 2023, at Naumburg Mennonite Church, Castorland. Calling hours will be 11:00 AM, until the funeral service at 1:00 PM. Officiating, Rev. Titus Mast, Rev. Bruce J. Roggie, and Rev. Myron Roggie. Burial will be at Croghan Mennonite Cemetery. MARTINSBURG - Mary H. Smith, 83, died early Sunday morning, November 5, 2023 at Lewis County General Hospital, with her family at her side, and under the care of hospice and east wing nurses. Mary was born April 16, 1940 in Mount Holly, NJ. , the daughter of the late Elwood and Dorothy Louise (Cliver) Jobes. She attended Mt. Holly High School. Mary worked for 16 years at New Jersey State Division of Developmental Disabilities Center in Burlington County, NJ. On November 6, 1981 at Ft. Dix, New Jersey Chapel she married Robert J. Smith. He was a retired Federal Police Officer at Ft. Drum. Mary worked for Kalet's Adult Home and Flat Rock Inn. They made their home in Martinsburg. Robert died on November 26, 1996. She is survived by her son, Brian R. Sprowl of Martinsburg; her three grandchildren and families, Alexis (Robert "Robbie") Talbot and their daughter, Rylee; Ashlee (Tyler) Halladay and their son, Hudson; and her grandson, Ryan Sprowl; her daughter-in-law, Susan Sprowl; her nephew and God son, Joseph Green, Jr. ; her siblings, Donald (Cindy) Jobes, Florence "Pete" Torla, Marjorie "Anne" (Joseph L. ) Green. She is predeceased by Elwood "Juney" (Madelyn Kay) Jobes, Jr. , and Dorothy L. (Andrew) Porto. A graveside service for family and friends will be on Thursday, November 9th at 1:00 P. M. at Martinsburg Cemetery. Immediately following the service, everyone is invited to the Marine Corps League. Loren was born on December 20, 1957 in Lowville the son of the late Everette Albert and Marieange Claire (Aubin) Haggerty, where he graduated from Lowville Academy and Central School, the Class of 1976. He was united in marriage with Candy L. Crouse on November 19, 1977 at Lowville United Methodist Church with Rev. Nay, Pastor officiating. Loren worked for Qubica AMF in Lowville. He is survived by his wife, Candy L. , their two children, Keith R. (Summer) Haggerty of Grovetown, GA; Casey J. Tabolt of Lowville; his four grandchildren, Caitlin, Devin, Tucker, and Eleanor; his best friend, Rusty (Jill) Moyer; and his dog, Molly; his brother and sisters, Everett (Carol) Haggerty, Jr. ; Gail (Gary) Myers, Rose Garvin (Larry Waite); Naida Cook (Dennis Burgess); and Karen (Keith) Watson; his Crouse family, Terry Crouse, Richard (Darlene) Crouse, and Lori S. (Edward) Darling-Johnson; nieces and nephews. Loren is predeceased by his mother-in-law, Madalene R. Mackey, brothers-in-law, Dennis T. Crouse, William E. Darling, Jr. , and his niece, Melinda M. Darling. Loren was a member of Sons of the Lowville American Legion Post #162, he enjoyed golfing, fishing and hunting, going side by side riding, most of all, he loved spending time with his family. LOWVILLE - Calvin L. Farney, 75, died Saturday morning, October 28th, with his family at his side, at University Hospital, where he had been a patient since last week. Cal was born on March 1, 1948 in Lowville, the son of the late Harold J. and Ellen E. (Effley) Farney where he graduated from Lowville Academy and Central School, Class of 1966. He married Susan F. Call on February 4, 1967 at St. Peter's Catholic Church. After high school, he worked for Eastman Kodak, while there he attended Monroe Community College. He also owned and operated Cal's Mobil gas station in Plattsburgh. Cal retired after 25 years of service from Lewis County Highway Department in 2013. He and Sue made their home on Shady Avenue, Sue died on October 13, 2022. Surviving are his three sons, James E. (Vicki) Farney; David B. (Bridgette) Farney; Harold J. (Kari Winship) Farney; his eleven grandchildren, Kirstin, Sarah, Jennifer, Christopher, Ellen, Robert, Aiden, Dawson, Brookelynn, Juliana, and Sullivan; his two great granddaughters, Saydee and Jaide; his sister, Kay E. Garfield; his brother-in-law, James Murphy; and his sister-in-law, Jean A. Call. Cal is predeceased by his sister, Mary Ellen Murphy, his brothers-in-law, Herbert E. Jr. and Michael A. Call. He was a communicant of St. Peter's Catholic Church, long time Lewis County CSEA President, member of Lewis County Marine Corps League, "Farney Hall" Detachment #754, member Beaver River Memorial Post #1663, where he was past Commander of Sons of the Legion, 5th District Past Commander, Sons of American Legion, life member of Lowville B. P. O. E. Lodge #1605, and Lowville volunteer driver for Disabled American Veterans, past Volunteer Fireman for Ridge Culver F. D. and South Plattsburgh F. D. He and Sue loved spending time at their Sperryville camp, he was a 20 year member of Burnt Creek Hunting Club. A funeral Mass will be said on Friday, November 3, 2023 at 12:00 P. M. at St. Peter's Catholic Church with Rev. Severinus Torwoe, Pastoral Vicar, officiating. Calling hours for family and friends will be on Thursday, November 2nd, from 5 to 7:00 P. M. at Sundquist Funeral Home, where the Elks will conduct a service at 4:45 P. M. A private burial will be in Apostolic Christian Cemetery.
