November 30, 2023

was born in Grenada, West Indies on November 10, 1934 to the late Henry and Liceta Butler. On Saturday, November 25, 2023, Nita completed her earthly assignments. Nita was preceded in death by a loving husband Michael I. Reece, brothers Eric, Ronnie, Cosford (Gweni), and Alfonso Butler. Nita had a relationship with the Almighty God, and she believed and verbalized how prayer to "Papa Jesus" changes things. She enjoyed reading her Bible. As a young woman, after she emigrated to Trinidad, Nita learned and became a self-employed "professional seamstress". She mastered constructing and altering garments for customers and family. It was amazing watching her wield her measuring tape and create stunning clothing based on their specifications and preference; she never created or used paper patterns. As a seamstress, Nita loved to looked polished and well put-together. Nita was a tough, independent, and spirited woman; from Trinidad she emigrated to America in 1968. Away from her children in Trinidad, she worked 10 years as a housekeeper, determine to enhance opportunities for growth and success of her children. In 1978 she brought her children to America. Nita had a great love for family and friends and her heart was big for the needy children around the world. As she grew older she matured from "stern mom and grandma" to mellow mom and grandma. Nita's mission was accomplished. She filled our mouths with laughter of stories of her adventures through childhood, adulthood, marriage, children and grandchildren. She watched her first generation grand children grow into loving and respectful adults and relish the presence of grandchildren in her life. To know that strong spirited, loving Nita Reece was to love her. She loved, loved, loved her family near and afar (Grenada, Trinidad, England and Canada), and we loved her too.
